There's a lot of talk lately about making our workplaces, schools, and communities more inclusive. Today I want to share with you a radical approach to creating whatever we want “out there." It must start “in here” within our own selves.
In 2014, I wrote a blog post about raising girls who are includers instead of "mean girls." It went viral. And then it went viral again and again.
In that post, I share about an experience moving to a new state in middle school and one awful day in the school cafeteria. I wrote about how I was starting to see some exclusion in my daughter's kindergarten class. I wrote it as a plea to parents of girls.
I have heard from thousands of people about their experiences of being excluded (as children AND adults). It appears that we all want to have a more inclusive society - kiddos and adults.
Here's a key aspect that often gets overlooked and yet it's the very first place we need to start.
