  • Enslavement Before Exodus Ex 1:1-14 - Introduction to Exodus
This sermon explores the seamless transition from Genesis to Exodus, emphasizing how the two books are entirely connected under God's overarching plan and how all Scripture ultimately points to Jesus Christ. By linking the death of Joseph in Genesis 50 to the rise of a new Egyptian king and the enslavement of the Israelites in Exodus 1, the message illustrates the shift from a season of favor to one of intense oppression. This historical turning point is framed not as a failure of God's plan, but as the direct fulfillment of His centuries-old prophecy to Abram in Genesis 15, where He foretold both their 400-year affliction and their ultimate deliverance as a massive nation. Even as the Egyptians ruthlessly forced them into slavery to halt their growth, the Israelites multiplied exceedingly, proving that human opposition cannot thwart the absolute certainty of God's promises.

  • The Oxgoad Deliverer
This week, we'll work through one of the shortest passages that you'll probably hear me preach: just one sentence, in one verse, in Judges 3:31 (it would be hard to find a shorter passage to preach, after all). Many sermons would pair Shamgar together with Ehud before him, but we'll be looking at Shamgar in a standalone sermon, since Scripture emphasizes him in his own right. And I want to give you a brief word of context for that—the sort of "how do we preach" context that we don't typically have time for on Sunday mornings. I hope Judges is an encouragement to you. I pray Shamgar, with his brief account, directs your eyes to Christ. We need a King, a Deliverer, a true and faithful Judge. And Christ is everything God's people could ever hope for—and infinitely more.

  • God's Mercy Leads to Rejoicing
Sermon: God's Mercy Leads to Rejoicing Sermon Text: Psalm 40 Sermon Preached at Providence Presbyterian Church Evansville, IN The sermon explores the theme of patient trust in God through an exposition of Psalm 40, emphasizing that believers must wait on the Lord with joyful perseverance amidst life's trials. It highlights three key aspects: a joyful remembrance of God's past faithfulness, a joyful relationship rooted in mercy rather than mere ceremony, and a joyful request for help born from humble dependence. The preacher argues that true patience is not passive waiting but an active expression of trust in God's providence, even when circumstances remain difficult or painful. By focusing on God's character and deliverance rather than immediate relief, Christians find abiding joy and the strength to proclaim His goodness to others. Ultimately, the message calls for a deep reliance on the Holy Spirit to cultivate this godly patience, mirroring the trust Jesus demonstrated in submission to the Father's will.

  • Faith's Choices!
Life is made up of decisions. Some are simple and unimportant, whereas others are extremely important and consequential. The course and quality of our lives is determined more by our choices than by our circumstances. By faith, Abel chose God's way by offering an acceptable sacrifice. Enoch chose God's way and walked in fellowship with the Lord. Noah chose to obey God, build the ark, and save his family. Abraham chose God's way by believing Him, living as a pilgrim, patiently waiting on God to possess the promised land. All them chose to do so by faith! Moses also lived by faith. And his story begins with his parent's faith. By faith, they chose to disobey Pharaoh's orders and kept Moses aline. Believing that God had a plan for Moses' life, and perhaps he was the promised deliverer, they instilled in Moses God's plan for Israel and for Moses. Being raised as the prince of Egypt, Moses never lost sight of who he was or God's plan for his life. Bu faith, he chose to reject the world's prestige, refusing to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter. By faith, he chose to suffer pain over sinful pleasures. He could have lived a comfortable life in Egypt but instead he chose to identify with oppressed brethren. By faith Moses chose true riches over world wealth. And by faith, Moses chose to face his fears, to forsake all in order to follow God's plan for His life. He had faced his fears, and armed with the presence, power, and promises of God. he fearlessly stood in Pharaoh's face demanding the unconditional release of God's people. He did so by faith!
