2 Timothy 3:14-17 & Matthew 6:9-13

Galatians 6:6-10.

What does a Spirit-led community look like? Paul maintains his course from last week by showing us that Spirit-led burden bearing also looks like caring for the practical needs of others, especially fellow Believers.

Galatians 5:25-6:5.

So what does life in the Spirit look like? What does it mean for Spririt-led recipients of grace to keep in step with the gospel? Paul says it looks like community life NOT defined by self-conceit, but, by gentle restoration and burden bearing.

Galatians 5:16-25.

“Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another” (Gal. 5:13). If there was a category for words easy to say but action difficult to do, it would be this verse which we studied last week. But as much as we might wish it weren’t so, the difficulty factor doesn't negate God’s command for us to exercise our Christ-bought freedom to serve others through love (or any other command). So when it comes to not using our freedom as an opportunity for the flesh; when it comes to obeying the commands of Jesus—the question becomes, “How are these things possible? What power has Jesus given to us so that we can obey His commands?” To which Paul replies—Jesus has given us the power of the Holy Spirit.

Galatians 5:13-15.

When it comes to understanding the purpose of freedom thoughts can range wide and far. One common thought is that freedom = I can do whatever I want whenever I want. But Paul knows the langauge of "freedom" can be misleading so he takes up the task of reminding us that our Christ-bought freedom is not an excuse for self-serving, but to serve one another in love.

Galatians 5:1-12.

For freedom, Christ has set us free. The Galatians need to remebmer this truth just as much as we do. In our world there are freedom robbers that would love nothing more than to see us enlaved again. This is why Paul reminds us that Christ has set us free; therefore we must stand firm in our freedom and not submit again to slavery.

Galatians 4:21-5:1.

Galatians 4:8-20.

Like a good parent who pursues a wayward child, so Paul, the gospel parent of the Galatians pursues his children in the faith. As he does so we gain the benefit of learning three truths that equally apply to our status as sons and daughters of God if we are in Christ Jesus through faith.

Galatians 3:26-4:7.

Who am I? This is the question of identity and it's the question Paul takes up next in his letter. Their justification rests in Christ alone, thus they are 'in Christ.' This is their new identity and as a result Paul wants them to know two key truths concerning their identity: they are heirs and they are sons.
