Judges 1:1-2:5.

We know the tension. It's easy to say one thing with our mouths and it's easy to do another thing with our lives. For most of us, we land in this place because we succumb to the temptation of compromise. These verses show us the failure of compromise, and they point us forward to our absolute need for the Deliverer who never once compromised in His entire life.

Galatians 6:7-8.

We will reap what we sow, says Paul. When it comes to walking and growing in holiness we have two fields to sow in. We'll either sow seeds into the field of the flesh or into the field of the Spirit. What field will you sow in today?

2 Timothy 3:14-17 & Matthew 6:9-13

Galatians 6:6-10.

What does a Spirit-led community look like? Paul maintains his course from last week by showing us that Spirit-led burden bearing also looks like caring for the practical needs of others, especially fellow Believers.

Galatians 5:25-6:5.

So what does life in the Spirit look like? What does it mean for Spririt-led recipients of grace to keep in step with the gospel? Paul says it looks like community life NOT defined by self-conceit, but, by gentle restoration and burden bearing.

Galatians 5:16-25.

“Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another” (Gal. 5:13). If there was a category for words easy to say but action difficult to do, it would be this verse which we studied last week. But as much as we might wish it weren’t so, the difficulty factor doesn't negate God’s command for us to exercise our Christ-bought freedom to serve others through love (or any other command). So when it comes to not using our freedom as an opportunity for the flesh; when it comes to obeying the commands of Jesus—the question becomes, “How are these things possible? What power has Jesus given to us so that we can obey His commands?” To which Paul replies—Jesus has given us the power of the Holy Spirit.

Galatians 5:13-15.

When it comes to understanding the purpose of freedom thoughts can range wide and far. One common thought is that freedom = I can do whatever I want whenever I want. But Paul knows the langauge of "freedom" can be misleading so he takes up the task of reminding us that our Christ-bought freedom is not an excuse for self-serving, but to serve one another in love.

Galatians 5:1-12.

For freedom, Christ has set us free. The Galatians need to remebmer this truth just as much as we do. In our world there are freedom robbers that would love nothing more than to see us enlaved again. This is why Paul reminds us that Christ has set us free; therefore we must stand firm in our freedom and not submit again to slavery.
