Judges 16:1-31.

In Samson we have a savior who dies so that others might be delivered. And his death not only sets the paradigm for what God's savior should do, but it also sets us up for a greater Savior to come who would also give his life in death so that others might be delivered, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Judges 14:1 - 15:20.

This text shows us how Samson is a savior empowered by the Spirit of the LORD. But perhaps to our surprise, Samson doesn't act quite like we think he would. But in this we see the secret of Yahweh's purpose. Samson, like Israel does what is right in his own eyes. But the sin of Samson will not derail Yahweh's mission of redemption. Far from it actually; for we learn that Yahweh can and will use the sinfulness of men and women to bring His saving purposes to pass.

Judges 13:1-25.

With the birth of Samson a savior is born. This is a gift of unmerited surprising grace. The angel says he will "begin to save" Israel. But…his salvation will be incomplete; which is why it's such good news that Manoah's wife would not be the last woman who would be called to bear a savior.

Judges 10:6-12:15.

Jephthah. As a lower-case 's' savior he brings salvation to God's people. But the best he can do is provide a marred salvation. If we are to have any hope of eternal life we need a capital 'S' Savior who can bring the perfect salvation we need. In this, Jephthah the savior points forward to Jesus THE Savior who will save his people from their sin.

Judges 8:33 - 10:5.

The people of Israel have again abandoned the LORD God. The downward spiral of sin has so descended that Israel has now become her own worst enemy. Abimelech the "hero" is the oppressor. There is a lot of detail in the Abimelech story, but for all the detail we need to not miss what was really taking place--the silent judgment of God. But that's not the end of the story for in sheer and utter grace, the LORD God sends a deliverer who saves.

Judges 7:1-8:32.

In our culture and unfortunately in our churches we are immune to the thought of weakness. We fight often and we fight hard to prove the power of our strength. Only the strong survive, we say. Nobody wants to be the weakest link. But the primary lesson we need to learn on repeat—a lesson which Gideon learns firsthand from Yahweh Himself—is that Yahweh’s strength is made perfect [ that is, most clearly revealed ] in our weakness.

Judges 6:1-40.

Judges 4:1 - 5:31.

From the beginning of the Bible through to the end, one of the clearest articulated truths is that Yahweh, the LORD God—He alone is my salvation. This is the theme that permeates Judges 4 & 5 as the author of the book of Judges turns our attention to Yahweh who promises salvation, achieves salvation, and (ultimately) gets the glory for salvation.

Judges 3:7-31.

The connecting theme in the life of Othniel, Ehud, and Shamgar is the gracious deliverance of Yahweh who delights to deliver His people. All of us left to ourselves will spiral downward into sin. This is why we need a Deliverer who can actually and eternally deliver us from the power of sin. It’s this very idea which shines through the text like the noon sun on a cloudless day.

Judges 2:6-3:6.

The author wraps up his intro to the book by pointing us to God's persepcitve on Israel's failure to walk in His ways. We learn that mere knowledge about God is not enough for a right relationship with Him and how this reveals the unguessable character of our faithful God.
