Nikola, as most of us know, is one of the companies expected to be a disruptive force in the trucking field when they announced that they were going to produce zero-emission vehicles. 

How are they going to do that? By offering both pure electric and also hydrogen-electric powertrains.

But recently, there were quite a few things that have been going on for this company.

They went public just a few months ago, on the 4th of June. And just after 5 days, on the 9th of June, the stock price had more than doubled since they started trading.

By early August, the company was valued at around $13 billion. 

Recently, there was a research report saying that Nikola is a fraudulent company and they are misleading their shareholders. Causing their stock price to drop 65% since their peak on the 9th of June.

So what's actually going on to this company? That's what we will find out in this episode.

Over a month ago, on the 27th of July, the world’s most powerful tech CEOs – Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, Jeff Bezos of Amazon, Tim Cook of Apple, and Sundar Pichai of Google, appeared in front of congress to face questions from the US House Judiciary antitrust subcommittee.

The purpose of this hearing was to determine whether these companies have too much market power. According to the congress, these companies are monopolies, they don't have competitions, they have to be scaled down or broken down and Congress intends to impose regulations on them.

Recently, Warren Buffett's company Berkshire Hathaway spent roughly $6.25 Billion acquiring slightly more than 5% of the five leading trading companies in Japan. These companies are Itochu, Marubeni, Mitsubishi, Mitsui, and Sumitomo.

This investment, as mentioned by Warren, is an investment that Berkshire Hathaway intends to hold long term, and depending on the price, may increase its holdings up to a maximum of 9.9%. 

Now, the question is why? Why would he invest in these companies? Why invest in Japan considering the flat GDP growth and aging population? Is he betting against America and investing abroad because of the Fed's constant printing of money?

I want you to picture yourself drawing a large circle. Once you've drawn that, in that large circle, I want you to draw another circle that is only 30% the size of the large circle.

Now, The smaller circle, I want you to label, "What you know", and the outer circle, which is the larger circle, I want you to label, "What you think you know".

In our previous episode, we talked about why borrowing money on securities is a bad idea, especially for first-time investors. And as I was researching about leveraging on securities, I was curious to know more about how excessive leverage can affect the actual stock market. 

That's when I came across a research which was conducted by a few researchers, one of them was professor Kelly Shue, who is also a professor of Finance from Yale school of management.

These researchers conducted this research based on the Chinese market crash in 2015 to understand how leveraging can potentially turn market correction into market crash.

Most amateur traders or investors trade using cash, meaning that if they want to buy $10,000 worth of stock, they must have $10,000 in cash in their trading account. 

However, for some professional traders or even investors, they tend to trade using leverage, meaning that if they want to buy $10,000 worth of stock, they don't have to spend all $10,000 of their own money,  they only use a small percentage of the amount that they want to trade and the balance will be paid using borrowed money.
