Joey Ellis is a former colleague of Ryan's in the Michigan State athletics press corps, recently finding himself in the center of a media firestorm after capturing UConn men's basketball coach Dan Hurley uttering some unflattering remarks to Baylor players in the arena entryway about the officiating in his team's tournament loss to Florida.

UConn's director of communications, Bobby Mullen, then threatened to 'ruin (Joey's) life' if the reporter refused to take the viral video down from social media.

Joey refused, and his employer stood by him. The two, Ellis and Mullen, have since mended fences and are now on amicable terms.
