  • The Sign of the Prophet Jonas
The sermon examines Jesus' response to the Pharisees' demand for a miraculous sign, identifying the resurrection as the ultimate proof of His authority. It contrasts the reluctant obedience of Jonah and the seeking of the Queen of Sheba with the rejection of Jesus by the religious leaders, highlighting the greater responsibility of those who witness His works. The teaching warns that a life cleansed of sin but not filled with the Holy Spirit remains vulnerable to spiritual attack, resulting in a worse final state. Finally, it redefines true kinship not by biological ties but by spiritual obedience to God's will, establishing the disciples as Jesus' true family.

  • Glory, Yes; Cross, No
In Luke 9:37-50, Charles Sebold follows Jesus and His disciples down from the Mount of Transfiguration, where on the very next day everything goes wrong. In fourteen verses the disciples fail four times, and every failure springs from the same root: they want the glory of the mountain but not the road to Jerusalem. First, the nine cannot cast out a demon from a father's only child, though Jesus had given them authority over all demons. Echoing Moses descending Sinai, Jesus rebukes a "faithless and twisted generation" in the words of Deuteronomy 32, then gives the boy back to his father, and all see the majesty Peter later testified to. Second, while the crowd marvels, Jesus tells them plainly that the Son of Man will be delivered into the hands of men; the saying is concealed from them, and they are afraid to ask. Understanding the cross is a gift of God, yet the disciples remain responsible for their fear, for God's sovereignty and human responsibility both stand. Third, they argue over which of them is greatest, and Jesus sets a child at His side, one with no status who can do nothing for anyone, teaching that whoever receives such a one in His name receives Him and the Father, and that the least is the great one. Fourth, John tries to stop an outsider casting out demons in Jesus' name because he "does not follow with us," and Jesus answers as Moses did about Eldad and Medad: be strict about Christ but generous about the borders of our own circle. The disciples would not learn this until the cross, where the truly great One became the least for people arguing about rank. Who is the child Jesus is setting beside you this week?

  • 01 Introduction & Background
This sermon examines the founding of the church in Philippi as recorded in Acts 16, highlighting the conversion of Lydia, the demon-possessed slave girl, and the Philippian jailer. It emphasizes that salvation is a gift of grace received through faith, illustrated by the immediate water baptism that follows belief for each convert. The narrative contrasts the jailer's despair with Paul and Silas's praise in prison, demonstrating that Christian joy is authentic and independent of external circumstances. This testimony of suffering and rejoicing serves as a powerful witness, leading the jailer to ask how to be saved and resulting in the salvation of his entire household. The passage establishes the theological foundation for the later letter to the Philippians, where the theme of rejoicing in the Lord despite hardship is central.

  • Ministry in Capernaum
This sermon examines the early ministry of Jesus in Capernaum, highlighting His unique authority in teaching and His power over unclean spirits. By cross-referencing Luke 4 and Isaiah 61, the message emphasizes that Jesus declared the fulfillment of messianic prophecies, identifying Himself as the Holy One of God who came to redeem His people. The narrative contrasts the rejection Jesus faced in Nazareth with the astonishment of the crowd in Capernaum, where demons themselves acknowledged His divine identity. Through the exorcism of a possessed man and the healing of Peter's mother-in-law, the sermon illustrates the tangible impact of Christ's presence and the rapid spread of His fame throughout Galilee. Ultimately, the preacher invites the audience to recognize Jesus as the Savior who completed the work of redemption, urging them to believe in and follow Him as Lord.

  • Lively Stones
The sermon explores the theological identity of believers as 'lively stones' built into a spiritual house, drawing primarily from 1 Peter 2 and 2 Thessalonians 2. It argues that the biblical commandments regarding stoning in the Old Testament are not merely historical penalties but prophetic figures of the church's role in executing God's judgment against evil, witchcraft, and the 'man of sin' in the end times. By examining narratives such as David and Goliath, Joshua's memorial stones, and Jacob's ladder, the message presents the church as the instrument through which God defeats death and establishes His kingdom. The tone is instructional and prophetic, encouraging believers to view their spiritual standing as a literal, active participation in God's plan to remove demonic influences and rule with Christ.
