I talked with Dr. Julio Rojas of OU Health Physicians Psychiatric department. He is the Director of OU Physicians ExecuCare Program, an outpatient based addictions program that specializes in the evaluation and treatment of impaired professionals and executives. Dr. Rojas is also past-president of the Oklahoma Psychological Association.

My guest today is Kevin Petersen, a licensed marriage and family therapist in Jacksonville, FL who works with families who have a loved one struggling with codependency and addiction. He’s also written two books, has a podcast, a private practice, and a YouTube channel all devoted to helping families hit the struggles of a member’s addiction head on.

Today I talked with Alex Castro. Alex is a professor in the Human Services department at Metropolitan State University Denver and the Executive Director of two Denver-area agencies called Life Recovery Center.

Today I talked to Ronda Goldfein. She’s a co-founder of the Philadelphia, PA based Safehouse Project, a nonprofit public health approach to overdose prevention. Supervised consumption sites like Safehouse are common-place in many other countries, but she and others have been fighting an uphill battle for many years trying to open the doors of the first such site in the US.

Aldous Huxley famously said “After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.” There’s no doubt good music speaks directly to the soul, but what if it could be used to heal? That’s what the folks at Recovery Unplugged are doing, with a lot of success. Today I talked with Joseph Gorordo, the VP of Business Development at Recovery Unplugged, & he shared his own recovery story and told me about some of the work his team is doing to weave music into dependence treatment.

We discuss all things addiction. From substance dependency to recovery, we'll focus on it all in the pursuit of understanding how we can overcome it.
