  • Ellen Busch | Author of "(dis)Empowered: How I Turned an Academic Death Sentence Into My Life’s Greatest Adventure"

Interview with Author Ellen Busch hosted by Jessica Buchanan from Soul Speak Press and Deserts to Mountaintops Podcast

Ellen's Memoir "(dis)Empowered: How I Turned an Academic Death Sentence Into My Life’s Greatest Adventure" is available now anywhere you purchase books online.

    About "(dis)Empowered"
Despite being raised in a loving family, life had left Ellen Busch traumatized and at her wit's end. Busch had no home, no job, no relationship, and no hope of having a family.

Even though Ellen escaped from an abusive husband, she was controlled by the unshakable stigma of dyslexia that erased any shred of self-worth. Busch couldn’t see that she was a victim of trauma until one fateful day, on a crowded highway, when she had a moment of realization that would change the trajectory of her life.

(dis)Empowered traces Busch’s journey from a troubled child trapped in an educational system that believed she was broken, to an insecure adult who grasped at each success like a rung on a ladder. But as she climbed, the view never changed because she could not see her own successes. All she saw was a woman who was unworthy, incapable, feeling powerless.

After being deceived into a marriage with a narcissist, left with nothing, she surrendered to a higher power. And in one epiphanic moment, she realized that everything that had happened to her had happened for her.

    Meet Rachel:
Rachel is a single working mom and obtained her Masters in Communications and Leadership from Purdue University. Rachel is an experienced writer and speaker, bringing her story of failure and success to audiences everywhere. In a world where perfectionism reigns supreme and social media has created the perfect façade, failures are rarely made public or celebrated. She’s learned that without failure, there isn’t growth, and that we need to create safe environments to foster failure where people can fail and try in order to innovate. Her insight helps break down the barriers between our hesitancy to fail vs. our necessity to fail in order to grow and centers around how to build teams that foster creativity and innovation that create an environment where people thrive and love to come to work. Meet Jamie:
My own journey of manifesting began with the important decision to live the life I truly desired. What followed was the resolve to let nothing stand in my way of attaining that goal. I accepted myself as my own client and dedicated myself
to the practice of manifesting the best life possible. The decision to make the journey and not the destination came not from a life-changing event; rather, it came from a deep awakening that I had not yet reached my highest potential. Only when I changed the path I was on, with the intent of living the life I had always wanted, did I understand that the universe was waiting to show me the answers to life’s questions. www.distillandexpress.com @distillandexpress

    Meet Alice:
Alice has been in business management consulting for over twenty-five years. This has brought her great joy and great pain at times. After working in toxic environments and experiencing mistreatment at the hands of male leadership, Alice delved deeper into her spiritual work. She found her true voice through working with the Divine Feminine in cultivating a life of awareness and self-discovery through various practices of spirituality including manifestation, visualization, meditation, moon cycles, and even a little magic. Alice has always felt pulled to women’s empowerment. As the mother of two daughters, it is extremely important to her that they are able to live in this world as who they truly are and not be silenced by the patriarchy. Alice wants to share her story, to help other women (especially young women) know they do not have to succumb to a toxic workplace, but can embrace their feminine values and not be afraid to fully use their voice. She hopes her work experience and her spirituality will inspire other women to be their authentic selves and discover their magic. Alice’s greatest joys are spending time with her husband and two daughters (“laughing with them is the best thing in the world”), working out, collecting crystals, reading, and sitting on the beach absorbing the sounds and energy of the ocean. Meet Cameron:
Cameron Curtis is a classically trained musician. Was. Cameron’s passion for music, beginning with piano and then vocal performance, began in middle school through
college where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in musical theater and opera. It stops there. She met the love of her life, Scott, got married, moved to Northern Virginia, and bought a house at the age of 23.
She lost her voice. Cameron’s family life has always been solid. Her mother and
father gave her unconditional love and support regardless of the path she took. Both encouraged her to be authentic and strong. She had two strong-willed grandmothers who impressed upon her from an early age that you should always take advantage of opportunities, even if they seemed risky. Following that advice, she took a job as an executive assistant for a higher-education not-for-profit. From there she moved
her way up the ladder from meeting planning to CEO. She discovered her true voice. Cameron is currently the President & CEO of C2 Association Strategies and has more than twenty-two years of not-for-profit management experience. She’s led organizations such as the Association for Air Medical Services, MedEvac
Foundation International, Society of Interventional Oncology, Association for Clinical and Translational Science, and the Texas Speech-Language Hearing Association. In addition, Cameron provided oversight for meetings and events, domestically and internationally. Cameron’s passion for growing leaders and helping others find their voices shows in her willingness to take advantage of any opportunity that comes her way. Risk is exciting to her, and she lives by the mantra her grandmother taught her,
“Never turn down anything but your coat collar.” Follow along on her website at www.c2associationstrategies.com or on Instagram and LinkedIn @cunzcurtis and Facebook at C2 Association Strategies.
