[00:00:00 - 00:00:09] One hit off of even weed can be laced with fentanyl. It could be the end of our child's life.
[00:00:11 - 00:00:44] I am Gloria Grace Rand, founder of the Love Method and author of the number one Amazon bestseller Live Love Engage. How to stop doubting yourself and start being yourself. In this podcast, we share practical advice from a spiritual perspective on how to live fully, love deeply, and engage authentically so you can create a life and business with more impact, influence and income. Welcome to live love engage.
[00:00:45 - 00:01:54] Namaste. You may not realize this, but tough love is actually more harmful than, you know, than not having tough love. And that's particularly when it is applied to children with substance abuse disorder. And today's guest learned that lesson the hard way from her own experience with her daughter's addiction. But before I bring her on to talk about that and what else to do instead of applying tough love, I want to welcome those of you who may be new to live love, engage. I am Gloria Grace, and I help female entrepreneurs attract more clients with calm, clarity and confidence by releasing negative thought patterns like self doubt and poor self worth. And joining us today is doctor Andrea Arlington, and she is an expert in family system healing and addiction recovery. And she empowers families with effective recovery techniques. So without further ado, I'm going to bring her on here and welcome you, Andrea, to live love, engage.
[00:01:55 - 00:01:57] Thank you, Gloria. It's great to be here.
[00:01:57 - 00:03:02] I, you know, this subject is, I wouldn't say near and dear to my heart, but it's something that I, I've got family history of alcoholism, thankfully not hard drugs, although my brother also did indulge in pot as well. But I know that you've unfortunately had some experiences with your daughter with much harder substances. But I thought, you know, and I know we'll kind of get into that, but I'd love for you to start off talking about this tough love perception that this is the way that we're supposed to handle, you know, people who are, I know in particular people who are in alcohol with alcoholism, you know, because I've been in Al Anon programs and things like that where, you know, they say, you know, you need to just let them be. So why is tough love harmful when you're dealing with children in your family who have substance use of disorder?
[00:03:02 - 00:05:40] Well, thank you. Tough love is often a type of communication where the person who is speaking is coming from an authoritative tone of voice. Some of the language they're using is, you should. How could you? Why don't you, don't you know better? And it is delivered without a sense of power, with its power over. And when a person is spoken to like that, I don't know about you, but I know from my own experience, being in, in a family of origin where I was spoken to like that, you know, the, it triggers a sense of shame. And shame and guilt are a little different. And what I mean by shame is shame is you are bad, whereas guilt is you've done something that has been harmful and we can change it sort of mentality. Like, I've done something that's been harmful and I can change that. I feel guilty for my choice, but I'm not ashamed of who I am. And when shame is triggered in the brain, and it is triggered every time somebody is speaking over us with that authoritarian, you should type of attitude, shame drives the same areas of the brain as trauma does. When a person feels traumatized, they will want to pursue their escape. So that's one really good reason to be aware of this tough love, sort of, I'm going to let go, let you hit bottom in this day and age. For one thing, we're losing 312 people a day to overdose, and we can't afford to use that kind of tough love where we way where we say, well, we're just going to let them hit bottom and let go. Because one hit off of even weed can be laced with fentanyl. It could be the end of our child's life, you know? And so there's a big difference between what, what Al Anon used to be sort of focused on when it was originally sort of just not discovered. What's the word? I'm looking for it.
[00:05:40 - 00:05:42] It's first set up, maybe when it.
[00:05:42 - 00:06:51] Was first set up. Yeah, kind of, right. It was established in response to the men who drank in bars and, you know, their wives were get coming together and saying, we're not going to put up with this anymore. We're just going to let them hit bottom. This is unacceptable. I'm detaching. That was back in the early 1930s, and we can't ignore the fact that life has changed. And what's really sad, Gloria, is that the medical profession is not real well educated on other alternatives for helping our loved ones, not just our children, but our loved ones, to overcome substance use disorder. The first thing you'll hear is attend Al Anon program. And I know there's great things about Al Anon in terms of self care, but the approach to helping our loved ones is dangerous. Letting them go and letting them hit bottom is dangerous.
[00:06:51 - 00:07:03] So what should we be doing instead of that. So instead of tough love, how can we help those we love to be able to be able to eventually get off?
[00:07:06 - 00:14:51] Yeah, thank you for asking that. But honestly, what we want to do is we want to, first of all, understand that there's a reason that they're using substances, and it's not what we would automatically go to, which is, oh, it's, you know, pleasurable or they're just rebellious and they don't care about us. If they really loved me, these are my thoughts. When I was a mom of. I was also the wife of and the sister of my brother. I lost my brother to iv drug use and alcohol, and I lost, you know, and I had multiple relationships and a husband who was struggling with substance use disorder. And then I had my daughter and my foster daughter, who were IV heroin addicts. Okay. So now they're both eleven and 13 years sober. And it wasn't until my second daughter was getting. Was still using. My first daughter was already in recovery almost two years when my foster daughter was still out on the street, literally. And my daughter said to me, mom, you can't. Because I thought, you know what? I know a friend who actually is a Navy SEAL. I'm going to hire these Navy seals to go in and extract her from downtown LA and put her in a treatment program. Well, we had already put her in treatment several times, and that was not effective. So I don't know why I thought that would be effective. But my daughter and her husband, who were both in recovery, said, absolutely not, mom, that's not going to work. And her husband, who owned a treatment center, said to me, look, the most effective way to help her get well is to go and meet with her next time she calls. Yeah, do it. We had to wait till she called because she didn't have a phone....

    Gloria "Grace" Rand:
Namaste. Grief is something that we all experience in life, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's easy to get through. But today's guest has quite literally written a book on the subject to help you traverse this journey with compassion and courage. But before I bring her on, I'd like to welcome those of you who may be new to Live, Love, Engage. I am Gloria Grace, and I help female entrepreneurs attract more clients with calm, clarity, and confidence by helping them to release negative thought patterns like self-doubt and poor self-worth. And joining us today in just a moment is Sheila Clemonson. She is a seasoned transition coach and author of the book Over the Rainbow, From the Depths of Grief to Hope. And Sheila knows the pain of grief all too well, losing her first husband at a young age to ALS. But through her own journey, she discovered how to create a sanctuary for those facing difficult situations, guiding them to grow and move forward. So without further ado, I'm going to bring her on so we can talk about this subject and how we can get through it with compassion. So here we go. Welcome, Sheila, to Live, Love, Engage.
    Sheila Clemenson:
Hi, Grace. It's wonderful to be here today. Thank you so much for having me on.
    Gloria "Grace" Rand:
Well, I appreciate having people like you on to talk about these things because we don't always talk about it, and yet it is something that we go through. I mean, it's inevitable. You know, what is it they say? The only two sure things in life are death and taxes. And, of course, grief isn't always just about death as well. I mean, sometimes that, you know, there's all kinds of different pauses that we can have. Death of a relationship or something going on with our with a job, you know, if we lose a position. So, let's talk a little bit, I thought we might start off with kind of talking about some of the complex emotions that come up when someone experiences a loss. Because I know I've had not just necessarily the inevitable sadness comes up, there's been other things too. So, I wonder if you can shed some light on that for us.
    Sheila Clemenson:
Yeah, so essentially, you know, I call myself a professional griever. And I know that it sounds kind of crazy, but when I look at my life and my grief experiences, they did start at a young age. I lost my father to suicide when I was five years old. And I did not know it was suicide at the time. I wasn't told that. I was told he was in a car accident by my mom because she probably didn't think a five-year-old, of course, was going to understand something like that. But, you know, not having a dad from five years old on, you know, my life was living in that very shadow. And so where I kind of go with that is that loss was profound from a young age and All of the emotions that go with that just became very familiar to me. And then moving forward through my journey, you know, loss of relationships, loss of innocence. There's some of that in my story about some sexual abuse I had when I was younger. loss then of my first husband, Grant, and that is the incredible journey that I've written about in the Over the Rainbow book. You know, grief has become a companion for me, and I want to say that it's not comfortable, but you learn how to live with it, I think is the best way to say that. I don't care how long It's been since someone has died that you have cared about that it has been important in your life You are still experiencing that over time. I met with a woman yesterday She her husband died 30 years ago and she's like we never really get over it and I'm like no we'd never get over and so I think the emotions that creep in at any given time are we're learning how to live with them and manage them. Sometimes there's deep sadness, sometimes that's tied to anniversaries or special days that you had together. Mother's Day and Father's Day that recently came up can certainly trigger a lot of things. And then there's an anticipatory grief that I don't think we talk about very much, Grace, that is when we've lost people or things, before we've lost them. And that can be relationships that aren't going the way we want them to. It can look like a lot of different things. So grief is pretty extensive. It's not just to the death of somebody that we love dearly. It's so much more than that.
    Gloria "Grace" Rand:
Yeah, I can understand that and relate to that, and I do know the significance of, like, different anniversaries or, you know, significant dates that come up. But I want to ask you about this because I know for me, especially when I lost my…my brother died in his sleep at age 33 when I was, like, 17 years old. And not only did I have the sadness, but I also had a lot of anger, you know. you know, at a young age, you know, just, you know, really being, you know, it's like, how could you do this to mom? Especially, he died on Mother's Day of all days. You know, it's like, oh my gosh. And I can, you know, only imagine, you know, God forbids. That's just not. Yeah, what happened to me. But I, you know, because it was a double whammy and her firstborn and everything. So, yeah, can you talk about that? You know, how does, you know, how do you deal with some of that, you know, anger that comes up?
    Sheila Clemenson:
Anger is... I have to tell you, it's one of those emotions that I try to stay away from. And it's not comfortable for me. I'm a people pleaser. I want to make everybody happy. I'm a peacemaker. I want to take it all on and not let anybody see that anger. However, that anger shows up in different ways for different people, right? It could be being passive aggressive. It could be, I'm fine. And we know what fine means. I define it in my book. And that's effed up, insecure, neurotic and emotional. I think that sometimes we internalize that and get resentful, which is probably more of what I did. I tried to show up as the best person that I could for my husband, Grant, when I was his caregiver. But we were on that journey for four and a half years. And there was a lot of anger in our journey, our connection with what was happening. And I want to say, unfortunately, verbally, we took it out on one another. And I'm not proud of that. But I think it's important for people to know that I talk about that in my book because it is a very real aspect of who we are. Some might say it's a shadow side of who we are, right? Living in that anger and that resentment. But I want to say that also, sometimes we take that out on those we love the most because we're pretty confident they're not going to leave. And so my husband Grant and I, we went through that a lot together and that was really challenging. And from a spiritual place, I have a really great story about connecting with the medium in the book where I asked the medium, you know, can Grant forgive me for the things that happened that we didn't really want to go through, right? And she said, there's nothing to forget. You were living in a human experience, and your spiritual selves and your souls don't need that. And she also brought Grant in, and there's some really cool stories to that. But I say that because sometimes we need that validation in some way. And I was still holding on to that guilt and shame from those angry outbursts and those really human situations. And I think that I needed to do what I needed to do to try to work through that guilt and that shame. And I did a lot of healing work on myself and especially with some spiritual connections. So I just put that in my book too.
    Gloria "Grace" Rand:
Yeah, I appreciate that and I can relate to that because I know I was a sort of part-time caregiver for my sister while she was going through her cancer journey. And yeah, and there were some times where, you know, certainly she lashed out, which was understandable because she's in pain, but sometimes I was just like, you know, I'm doing the best I can here. You know,...

And she is also the author of the 2023 award winning book Be Human lead Human, how to connect people and performance. And I'm going to bring her right on now without any further ado. And let's welcome you, Jennifer, to live. Love, engage.
    Jennifer Nash :
Thank you. Gloria Grace. I'm excited to be here today.
    Gloria "Grace" Rand
Well, I'm looking forward to this because I want to learn more about being a good leader. I don't have any employees in my business at the moment. I have had some in the past, and I know eventually I will again. So I thought we'd actually start just kind of dive right in and talk about why is it important for employers to, I guess, put employees first as opposed to the customers.
    Jennifer Nash
Well, you know, a couple years ago, the business roundtable signed an agreement with 181 companies that essentially said, you know, all stakeholders are important. And so when we put all of our stakeholders first, we can actually do what's right by them and what's right for the world as a whole. So when we think about putting employees first in the equation, it's about what can we do to create an environment that allows them to flourish and grow, and then in turn, our businesses flourish and grow and the world is a better place.
    Gloria "Grace" Rand
Well, that makes sense. And I think it seems to be a challenge, though, yet for a lot of companies out there. I know we've definitely heard a lot about that the last...
    Jennifer Nash
    I can understand, Gloria Grace.
    Gloria "Grace" Rand
Yeah. So let's say that you are an employer out there, or again, if you're maybe a solopreneur and you're looking to start expanding your team, you're at that place where you're ready to start hiring. So how can you actually create an environment that is going to be one that employees are going to want to stay, be they're they're going to want to show up every day for work. Let's put it that way. So how can companies go about doing that?
    Jennifer Nash
Yeah, so I think first and foremost, there's the element of seeing the employee as not just an employee, but seeing them as a whole human being. Right. So, for example, I live in a state where they currently passed legislation to deny people who are working outside building things water breaks. That makes no sense to me. So when you start off from that perspective and you're not giving people what they need from a human rights perspective, you know, you're not in a good place to create an environment where not only people don't want to stay, but the people that are there aren't going to be engaged and really want to give their all to the company.
    Gloria "Grace" Rand
Yeah, I heard about that. And it's just, really just boggles the mind because, you know, it's kind of like, you know, you know, if Mama ain't happy, nobody else is happy. I would, I would think that if your employees aren't happy, then how can your customers then be happy, you know? Right. Because I've been in situations where you could clearly tell that somebody was really not happy to be there, and it shows in how they treat you as a customer. Yeah. So is there anything, I guess, you know, what can be done besides, you know, giving people their basic, you know, needs, you know, fulfilling their needs, like, you know, food and water to really start, I guess, creating this environment. And it's, and it's really actually add attitude. That's the word I'm looking for, really, this attitude that's got to start from, from the top down.
    Gloria "Grace" Rand
So what can be done, I guess, to do that? And is there anything even that employees can do themselves to be able to stick up for themselves, short of going on strike or something like that? We've also experienced a lot of that over the last few years as well.
    Jennifer Nash
Yes, exactly. Well, I think one of the first things that employers can do is to understand what kind of culture do they want to have in their organization. For example, I was just working with a client last week, and they were telling me how there were people in the organization who didn't want to work together, and they refused to work together, actually. But because of the jobs that they were doing, they needed to work together to deliver this product that they were working on. We talked about how this leader can create behaviors that are expected in the organization. What does that look like? And then holding people accountable to abide by those behaviors. And if they choose not to that's okay. We still love you, but we think you're going to be happier elsewhere.
    Jennifer Nash
So first and foremost, I think, is understanding what kind of culture you want to create in the organization and then designing the desired behaviors around that culture.
    Gloria "Grace" Rand
And, yeah, so that makes perfect sense to be able to do that. What would actually maybe. Let me ask it this way. Why do you think some companies, some leaders are so reluctant to be able to put this emphasis, to really be able to focus? Is it? And I'm thinking, not even necessarily. I know public companies get in all into having to be able to please the shareholders and things like that, but I'm sure this happens a lot in private companies as well. Why do you think there is a reluctance to focus their attention on their employees?
    Jennifer Nash
So I think this goes back to Taylor. Taylor was a mechanical engineer. He's known as the father of scientific management. He was one of the first management consultants. And Taylor was someone who wanted to design processes to be optimized. And so he ran time in motion studies to help people figure out what was the fastest way to do their job. And prior to Taylor coming on the scene, workers had figured out the processes that worked best for them, the tools that worked best for them, the timing of their work that worked well to get the work done. So they had employee essentially voice and choice and autonomy.
    Jennifer Nash
And then Taylor came on the scene, redesigned everything, optimized all the processes, and all of a sudden, he's telling people, okay, at this time, you pick up this amount of pig iron, you take x number of steps, and then you set it down, and then you take a break for 20 seconds, and then you get up and you did it all over again. And he's walking around with a stopwatch, you know, sort of micromanaging this person as they go through, you know, this, this time in motion study. And I think as an outcome of that, we got into this space where, you know, managers and leaders became more micro managers and telling people what to do, rather than trusting their employees to do the work in the way that worked best for them so they could optimize their eff

I want to dive right in, actually, because we're going to get to your story in a little bit, but I'm changing things up a little bit here, so I want to dive right in and have you explain to our listeners and viewers why you believe self-love is a divine gift and how we can embrace it fully.
    Nina Presman (Guest)
Okay, I have a very interesting story. I'm going to make it really quick. I was really abused as a child. My mother worked for KGB. I was never knew love existed, didn't even understand. I had a dog but I never had an ability to connect because I was raised as an asset. I was trafficked by my mother. I was not allowed love and then, as I was growing up, I tried to find it in man, I tried to find it on alcohol, I tried to find it in everything and I never understood. I never understood God. I never understood me. I never understood love.
And I guess this is what I signed up for to find it for myself. Because I really went through tremendous amount of trauma and tremendous amount of disappointments and loss and grief and I lost my. I found a soul mate. He fell off the roof and died and I felt all alone, always. And one moment, one day I had several near-death experiences that kind of got me closer to God, but there wasn't it.
One day, something woke up and what woke up was oh my God, there has to be something better. I am looking in the wrong place and I think God kind of knocked on my shoulder and said, hello, I'm here. But I really didn't know where to look. The only place I could was inside myself. And then I started realizing that, oh my God, you really need courage to look inside yourself. It's scary. It's scary to look inside and say, oh my God, nobody loves me. I've been a victim my whole life. I've been abused my whole life. Who is going to love me? And then, in one moment, all it took was that courage to look inside yourself and say I can love myself, but who is going to help me? And then I literally heard a voice, and the voice was from God. And the voice said I will love you. And my next question was God, how do I love myself 100%? And this is when everything opened up. I cannot even describe to anyone the amount of love and understanding, thought patterns, doors that start opening up when you ask that question. I actually tell people to say it all the time.
You don't feel good about something, you just go and ask God, how do I love myself 100%? Because we are through God. The love comes. God is love, God is energy of love. If you don't connect to that, you don't know what love is really, and we all try so hard to please others and to do good things for others and we think, okay, if I do this right, okay, maybe if I donate, or maybe if I volunteer, or maybe if I go save animals, or maybe if I just go take care of my sick mother, everything is going to be right because I'm doing the right thing, I'm giving love. But then you feel alone inside and you feel empty. No matter what you do, it doesn't work. It's only because there is not enough self-love in there. When you say, God, how do I love myself 100%? It creates this energy in your heart that allows you to love yourself so much and starts growing that it starts spilling out of you onto others, not that you're looking for it somewhere else. It starts growing inside you to the point where you actually want the joy of giving it and sharing it.
I started a business and, um, I was terrified. It was like part of my growth. I had absolutely no money, but I knew I wasn't going to succeed. I didn't know how and my fear was just draining, until I found this Abraham Hicks. And then I was listening and kept talking about a vortex and after I joined to understand what is the vortex? What is it?
And one day I picked up my puppy and I felt it. I felt the vortex was the love they don't explain. Abraham Hicks does not explain this. The vortex is the unconditional love. When I felt that love from my dog, all the fear disappeared, all the bad thoughts disappeared. It overcame everything and I had the aha moment.
At that time I was like that just starts showing me these things. It was like, oh my God, any moment of the day when I feel sad, depressed, fearful, not good enough, all I have to do is think about holding my dog. Remember that moment. For me it's a dog, for others it could be a child. It could be that moment in life where you feel the precious energy and it will take you out of your fear instantly and from that moment you can love yourself. You just can grow in it and all it does, it grows. It's amazing.
Our brain is so powerful. Our brain is an ai. That's how I look at it. Our brain is going to do what you tell it to do. Yeah, we have brain cells in our heart. It's called gamma waves. I've learned all that since I opened up to our gamma waves is that when your heart tells your brain how to think and not the other way around, and that's the energy of love. Gamma waves is your God connection in your heart. It's the love connection. It's the love growth and from there fear starts disappearing, diseases start disappearing. So that's how I found love.
    Gloria "Grace" Rand (Host)
I love that, yeah, and I think that happens so much with people. I think sometimes is that you have to go. You know they call it like the dark night of the soul. When you're, you know you've got, maybe you're grieving or something is going on, and then you know you have to kind of say of say, okay, how do I get out of this? And and it seems like that's that's sort of was your experience a little bit
    Nina Presman (Guest)
Every day was the dark night of the soul. Oh, I'm not the same person. Yeah, like literally not the same person. It feels like I work with people with trauma. Now I now I love working with PTSD because I learn how to delete it instantaneously. I see things in a different way. I see things in mathematical equations. I can see us like the. I see the divine energy, but to me it comes in in numbers and I'm seeing these equations and I literally delete the equations and I download the equations and when I do it, nobody understands what I’m saying. But I'm seeing these binary numbers. It's a very interesting gift that I have, but that's programming. I'm actually seeing the programming. So I have an ability to delete the programs of PTSD, of trauma, of cancer. It's all programmed. Right, even getting tickets when you drive and get tickets.
I used to get tickets all the time. I deleted that because I like to drive fast, but that's how it is. So I see everything, but people don't see it in numbers. People more. I feel it, I see it, I hear it.
An interesting thing the more I start connecting to myself, to my own heart, to the God energy in my heart. The more it starts expanding, the more I start asking in those words God, how do I? God, how do I find the courage to love myself? That's where you start. God, how do I love myself 100%? God,...

Namaste. I am so excited for today's show because we've got an expert, who is going to be coming on shortly, who believes self-pleasure is the hack you need to reach your next level in business and in life. So I know that if you are intrigued by that, you're going to want to stick around. And if this is your first time joining us, I am Gloria Grace, the light messenger, and I help female entrepreneurs release negative thought patterns like self-doubt, so you can grow a business that aligns with your soul's purpose. And, as I mentioned, our guest today is this expert and her name is Dr Fanny Leboulanger, and she is known as the Sassy French Physician, and she is really on a mission to help people rediscover pleasure and stop their inner war and come home to themselves. And I am excited to find out what her story is, how she got to be known, frankly, as a sassy French physician, what that all means. So I'm going to bring her on to the stage right now. So welcome, dr Fanny.
    Dr Fanny Leboulanger (Guest)
Hello, Thank you for having me. I'm excited.
    Gloria "Grace" Rand (Host)
Wow me too. So, yeah, I love asking our guests to kind of give a little background on themselves and tell us about you know this journey, because I know that you've been on an interesting journey, I think of how you got to be where you are today, so I wonder if you would share that with our audience.
    Dr Fanny Leboulanger (Guest)
Of course, I love that question. I have a pretty basic story of life knocking at the door and me being like I'm not listening, and life knocking again and me I'm not listening, until things crashed. So what happened is I am a French physician and during med school I had a diagnosis of epilepsy. Age 26, out of the blue, you are allowed to have one seizure in your life. When you have a second one, that's called epilepsy, and so you need treatment. So I had to start looking and do some self-inquiry.
What happened at that moment is how I noticed how I was proud of submitting my body Like my body is a tool that is a service of my mind. My mind was so proud I am the one in charge and you were following what I decide. Until, literally, my body switched my brain off. So I had to do some digging. Then I started to dive deep into the self-development work. I love that, and I also spent a lot of hours, months, years and also a lot of money in things that would not make me feel that great.
I have a loved one I thank her for that who said to me, “with all the work that you're doing with yourself, how come you're still miserable?” ouch, but true. And so I started to want to dig deeper a little bit. And then there was this life combination moment. The universe has the secret of with a few things arriving at the same time. I had many patients. I work in gynecology on a daily basis. I don't have a title of a gynecologist, but I do the gyno work, apart from delivery and birth. But like everything else, I can do that, Pap smears, birth control, IUDs, like that and so I had many, many people that were coming to me with issues I had no answer to, and the exams I was prescribing had no answer. People having pain and me being like, okay, I guess you're gonna need to go see a sexologist. Until the point it was like three patients out of four and I was like there's something wrong. If I need to send 75% of my patients to a sexologist, there has to be something else. I also remember this woman being 34 and whispering like doctor, I think I'm broken because I'm 34 and I never had an orgasm. And I was considering myself lucky because I had orgasms before and I was starting to feel a little bit weird about getting them only from my partner, as if suddenly like, yeah, I don't know what's happening here.
So I started digging. I discovered the teacher that I studied under. Her name is lila martin. She's amazing and um. So I started bringing this modified tantric wisdom with my medical knowledge and, thanks to that, I have a zero bullshit tolerance. That's where I think my sassy French physician title that I give myself comes from, because I truly believe we wouldn't change our lives if we do the real work, and I also truly believe that we can bypass and lose so much time, so much energy and so many, or at least so much, inner wisdom and lifeness in doing, yeah, some that at least are not as efficient or, as I'm not going to say interesting, because it's always interesting there are definitely ways to act or fast track your self-evolution if you do the real work, and in my totally biased opinion you're gonna say me, you're gonna hear me say that a lot it's how, when things start to change, when you bring your body with you and bring your body with you, and the best way to do that is to do it with pleasure.
    Gloria "Grace" Rand (Host)
Okay, tell me a little bit more about this, though. So you especially when you mentioned that you're having to discovering that all these people seem to be having this issue. So how does I guess discovering or learning to maybe even find pleasure for yourself, how does that translate into or maybe I shouldn't say you know, what are the benefits of it beyond the strictly physical about it?
    Dr Fanny Leboulanger (Guest)
First there is the whole chemicals and things that help your system feel good and, on a really basic and simple level, pleasure is your birthright. If you have a female at birth body and if you have a clitoris, you have a dedicated organ designed for pleasure, with no other purpose than pleasure, and I truly believe again, totally biased opinion, that honoring that is a way to honor your birthright. And when you honor your birthright, suddenly things start to change, sometimes for the best, because you're realigned to your core and true you truly are. You understand how you feel, what you want. And also sometimes it brings a lot of shit too, like all of the things that you have put lovingly under the rug for years, or things that you haven't looked at, or things that you have consciously or unconsciously avoided, and all of that creates change. You will get that right back into your face and since you are changing, there are also many people who will be like what the f*ck is happening to you. So that's really reclaiming the beauty of all and that's pleasure, at least for me, is the only way I found to get a little bit closer or further on that journey.
    Gloria "Grace" Rand (Host)
Now, and as you’re talking though, I’m thinking there’s… I don’t know if it’s still as much today, but I know for me, certainly, growing up there’s a lot of stigma against it. And a lot of, you know, and again, I grew up Catholic, and you're going to go to hell, frankly, if you're going to do something like that. Because sex is for procreation, that's it , you know. You're supposed to be, I think pleasure is a byproduct, except that I've also done reading and talking to other people that you know. Frankly, it's especially between two people. It can really be almost a when you connect with someone, well, that it can be this really holy connection. So, but if… so, what would be well, I guess maybe the question I'm going to ask you is what would you say to someone who's like you know, who still kind of feels that you know this is something that they might feel guilty about or feel shame about? How do you handle that?
    Dr Fanny Leboulanger (Guest)
The sentence that I say the most, I think, is you're not broken, there is nothing wrong with you. It's the system that we are living in that is twisted and that is making us feel guilty or afraid or all of these byproducts from the society we're living in. So there's nothing wrong with experiencing that. Second, it's really important to allow yourself to feel them. I think so many of us, myself included, have tried to reject how we feel,...

And today's guest is very much in alignment with that as well. Her name is Megan Mary, and she is a dream worker, intuitive, and author who specializes in the analysis of women's dreams to promote transformative personal growth and enlightenment. And she has founded the Women's Dream Enlightenment podcast to help women with that as well as well as some other programs that she does, which I think she'll be talking about today. Megan Mary
Thank you, Grace. It's a pleasure to be here.
    0:02:14
    Gloria Grace Rand
Well, I'm really so intrigued by what you are going to be sharing with our listeners and viewers today because I have some interesting dreams sometimes, and so I'm curious to know more about that. But before we really delve into, you know, what you do, I want, I love asking our guests a little bit more about how you got to be where you are today. What was the journey that kind of brought you into? Yeah, helping women with understanding their dreams, I guess.
    0:02:49
    Megan Mary
Yes. So I was always fascinated by dreams growing up, and I think that I did look into it a little bit as a teenager and as a college age, looked into dream dictionaries and things like that, started reading books about dreams, trying to figure out what they meant, and knew that what I was getting was not quite everything that was out there to know. And so I think that I let them go a little bit in my thirties and just sort of stopped listening to them.
    0:03:22
    Megan Mary
And then midway in my life, I ended up really having a lot of medical issues that caused me to decide that I needed to do some real mind body spirit healing, not just the body healing part. And I was doing a lot of meditation and I was asking for that spiritual guidance. And dreams came back in as one of those portals of spiritual intelligence, one of those ways that I really was able to start to receive information that I was seeking.
    0:03:58
    Megan Mary
And that really became for me, almost an emphatic calling at that time to spread that word and to be the catalyst for other women to use their dreams for their own empowerment.
    0:04:15
    Gloria Grace Rand
Very cool. I'm like, I've got so many questions I want to ask. Things are going through my head. And I know one of the things, even when I was introducing this, when I was writing the post for it today, was doing a little research about dreams. And even just what people, what Research has been done.
    0:04:37
    Gloria Grace Rand
About dreams and misconceptions that people have about dreams. Before we maybe get into all of this, what exactly do you do with clients? How do you help them understand their dreams? Because dreams seem like a personal type of thing. What do you do and how do you analyze them, I guess?
    0:05:00
    Megan Mary
I guess the way that I work with dreams is very much like the way a transformational life coach would work with you in terms of using dreams as a doorway to your subconscious and using the stories that come through your dreams to help you better understand yourself. So whatever your preconceptions are, your blockages, whatever you have brought into this world, your behavior patterns, and also your hopes and dreams, your aspirations, your talents, all of those things are reflected in your dreams.
    0:05:40
    Megan Mary
And when you're able to connect with them and understand your dream language, then you're actually able to connect with your higher self, to connect with your greater purpose, to understand why you're here and how things could be different in your trajectory in your life. So it's very much a self development methodology as much as it also is a creativity catalyst and a modality for healing.
    0:06:09
    Gloria Grace Rand
And what, something just occurred to me because I know, I think I've read this or maybe talked to other people. There will be, there's like websites online where they say, you know, oh, figure out your dreams. You know, here's the symbolism of, like, water. Water means something. You know, if you experience this or if you're on an airplane, it means something like this. Do you find there's any credence to that? Or is it really more unique to each person?
    0:06:36

I feel that it is very unique to each dreamer. And I have a blog post where I talk about breaking up with your dream dictionary. Because I really feel that when we look to the dream dictionary, we're getting a generic meaning that is not coming from our subconscious. It may be a culturally held generic meaning. It may be a historic or a mythological meaning, but it is not necessarily the meaning for us, because our dreams are comprised of everything we've ever experienced, and our experience is unique to each and every one of us.

So I put in high esteem the dreamer's experience and the dreamer’s associations. So rather than put the meaning on the dream, I work with the dreamer to pull out their own personal subconscious associations so that they can start to decode their own dream language and understand that that water or that airplane or whatever it might be for them is completely different, even between two people.

I'm thinking now as well. Then, do you rely on your own intuition, or is it sort of in, I guess maybe in conversation with a client then, and helping them to kind of figure out, as you say, that it is unique to each person? What do you think about that? Is it a little bit of both?
    0:08:13
    Megan Mary
Yes, it is both, because I am an intuitive, and so we're dealing with something that is a little otherworldly here. So dreams are definitely a different beyond space and time. They're not in this 3d reality. And so it's difficult, even for people who are very skilled at this, to bring those elements of the dream into this level of consciousness. And that's because of the alteration in brainwave states that happen from when we're sleeping to when we're awake.
    0:08:48
    Megan Mary
And so it's, it's both because I'm asking a series of questions and I'm discussing the dream content with the dreamer, but I'm also listening and watching and feeling and all those other senses that are

Oh, it's so good to be here. Thank you for inviting me, gloria
02:06 - Gloria "Grace" Rand (Host)
I've been fascinated by astrology for a long time and in fact I didn't even get to tell you this, but my sister used to. She was an astrologer, she used to do charts for folks and everything so, and I know she did mine years and years ago and I've changed a lot since then. But I want to talk about you specifically, though. I mentioned in your bio that you became interested in astrology as a child, so I wonder if you could share with our audience a little bit about what it was that really piqued your interest in that.
    02:40 - Suzanne Gerber (Guest)
I think a lot of people can relate to this, because the night sky is so compelling, especially when it's a clear night you could see all the stars when the moon is full or really bright it just always captivated me. I had a little mobile over my crib and it was the stars hanging, you know, with the sun in the middle and I don't know. There was just always a fascination, a sense that there was more to the world than what we thought of, and the sky and the moon especially, seemed proof of that. And when I did a science project in third grade I drew the whole solar system in meticulous detail. It was so compelling to me.
    03:21
And then, as I got a little older, in high school I got my hands on a sun sign book Somehow it's long before the computer's age and the internet age and you had to find books and I would talk to anybody who would listen about their sun sign because of course I had no other way to calculate the other elements of their chart. And then I went to college and I lived in Europe and the whole time I was there I kept telling my partner at the time I can't wait till we get back to the States and live in New York and I can really study astrology in earnest. And my first week back I grabbed the local paper, found an ad first ad, on the whole page. It said astrology class is now forming. I never even checked for anything else. Signed up with that person. She was my teacher for three years and my whole life changed as a result of it.
04:13 - Gloria "Grace" Rand (Host)
That is so cool and I love how the universe will do that for us. It will give us those signs when we're looking for them, or sometimes even when we're not looking for them as well. But I think that's so, so cool. But it is interesting, though, and I wonder what was it? Because you know you talked about first, you know, looking at the stars and planets as a little kid and I did too. I was always fascinated by that stuff, and I love science fiction and things like that.
    04:41
So why do you think, though? Because you could have gone two ways? You could have gone the science-y route. You know traditional astronomy and studying, you know the planets, and maybe you know going into that way but instead you went into the astrology and more of the, I guess the personal impact, I guess, of how the planets, what do you think? What do you think was it about that, or maybe that is what it was that kind of led you down this path instead?
    05:19 - Suzanne Gerber (Guest)
My sister and this may or may not be surprising she became a psychologist. She also around the same time that I got involved with astrology. She taught herself to read poems, Started with a book that was like, I think, in my grandmother's bookcases, and then she learned how to read tarot cards. So it's kind of interesting that even though she went in a very professional direction as a psychologist, she always had this as a sideline. I also, as you mentioned, I went into journalism because back before the internet it was hard to make a living as an astrologer, right, it just wasn't a popular profession. Let's say, it wasn't usually on a pull-down list of what are you? I'm an astrologer who works with people on the internet you know around the world, but that didn't exist.
    06:11
But I always was dabbling in learning and studying and and doing readings for people. In the beginning before I felt very confident, really, mostly in a barter situation, usually for body work of some kind healing work and mostly for feedback, because it's the only way if you know and you're really hitting. But I never didn't love the science-y part of it and I still can really geek out, especially and this is less on the astronomy, geology kind of part, astrophysics-y part but the magic of numbers, and that's something that astrology really reveals to us, because that's how we can tell how the planets are functioning, by degrees, by relationships, by connection. And the thing that's interesting to mention is originally, like way back in the day, astronomy and astrology were the same science. They came out of the same field. It's just the differences.
    07:14
Astrology applies certain and you could say assumptions, but it's really much more than that. Thousands of years, millions of people and, as I like to say, millions of satisfied customers have worked with these, received symbols and archetypes and energies of the planets and their relationships. And ultimately, to me, yeah, it's great to geek out. I love the James Webb telescope. I follow where it's going and the images that it's sending back. That's great, but it doesn't help people and for me, I always had a longing to try to bring any kind of healing instincts or supportive instincts or therapeutic approaches to life, and that's where astrology, for me, is the most magical and unparalleled thing.
08:02 - Gloria "Grace" Rand (Host)
Well, perfect segue. So let's dive into that a little bit more about, because I said, you know, when I first, my first exposure, I think, to astrology was okay, and again this is showing our age when you used to get a daily newspaper and read it, you know, and so you'd have these things in there, and so I knew that I was born in September, I was a Virgo, and so I would, you know, look at that. But there is so much more to it. So how, I guess how, can people use astrology like as a guide for, maybe, decision making?
    08:35 - Suzanne Gerber (Guest)
Well, a lot of people are. I mean, it's just become one of the most popular things in the world, right Since, I would say since COVID....

"Be bold about who you are, what you stand for, what your values are, what your opinions are, and realize that not everybody is going to resonate with you, and you have to be okay with that." - Gloria "Grace" Rand
Known as The Light Messenger, Gloria "Grace" Rand is a business coach who helps female entrepreneurs release negative thought patterns and self-doubt to grow businesses aligned with their soul's purpose. An entrepreneur for 15+ years, Gloria empowers her clients to engage authentically and create meaningful connections to fuel their success. She is also a practitioner of energy healing and light language, using these modalities to help individuals connect with their higher selves and overcome fear and self-doubt.
As Gloria “Grace” shares in this episode, it's tempting to craft social media posts just like the ones popular entrepreneurs in your niche put out. But research shows that authenticity is what people want from brands. You’ll learn that connecting with your ideal clients means letting them get to know the real YOU. Grace explains that AI writing assistants can be useful tools to create content, up to a point. While they can be trained to align with your brand’s voice, that doesn’t mean you can still just “copy and paste.” Take a minute to add your own special sauce, so your content still comes across as authentically you.
    In this episode, you'll discover:
Engaging authentically allows business owners to connect on a deeper level with their audience and prospects.
Potential customers may not resonate with your brand if there's a disconnect between how you show up online and in person.
AI can be a helpful tool in content creation, but you've got to infuse it with your own personality.
An overwhelming majority of customers say authenticity is as an important factor in brand preference.
Overcoming imposter syndrome, fear of judgment, and inexperience are necessary for you to show up authentically and confidently in business.
