    Gloria Grace Rand
Namaste. I am Gloria Grace, the light messenger. And if you'd like to know how you can harness the power of your emotions and intentions to manifest your deepest desires, hopefully you're in the right place today. And I say that only because my guest, who is supposed to be here, is not here yet. And so I was just notifying his pr person. And the message I got back was, I don't know where he know. I believe he is. Well, his name is Mike Murphy, and I'm going to tell you that first. And he is a bestselling author, a course creator, passionate philanthropist. In fact, one of the things I wanted to talk to him about is that he has a retreat center in Colombia, and perhaps there is Internet issues with Colombia today, and maybe that's why he's not here. So I am going to talk anyway about this subject because even though he has his own perspective about it, and I'm truly hoping that he will show up here in the next couple of minutes and I will bring him on. But if not, I have my own perspective because I also know about tuning into the vibrational field, if I can speak, and the power of intention and emotion, because I've done a lot of work in that area for quite a few years now. A lot of this stems from, you probably have heard about the law of attraction, and I know what Mike teaches goes beyond that. In fact, if you go to his website, that's what he would say, is that it goes beyond that. And I do know that in having worked with a variety of people over the years about intentions, that the emotion that you have that goes along with it really is the key. Because, and in fact, I've had guests on the program before to talk about the power of affirmations, for instance. But if you just are telling yourself, oh, I'm going to be rich, or I am rich, I am rich, I am rich. But you're not focusing in on the emotion of that. Well, number one, if you're not rich at the moment, your brain is going to have a hard time accepting that you are that, because it sees the reality. So I had a guest on the show a year ago. His name was oh, Noah, and I'm forgetting his last name. But he talked about something called afformations, where his philosophy is to ask questions instead of like, how can I be rich? And then letting the brain figure it out or look the episode up. Anyway, it's a good one. Oh, and here is our guest now. Yay. I am so glad. I'm so glad. Good I only had to vamp for a few minutes. So without further ado, I'm going to bring him on and I'm going to trust that his microphone is working and everything. And then I'm going to introduce him officially to you. So welcome Mike Murphy to Live. Love. Engage.
    Mike Murphy
Thank you. I'm sorry I'm late. Are we live or is this.
    Gloria Grace Rand
We are live! Yes, we are.
    Mike Murphy
Sorry, everyone, but I'm here now.
    Gloria Grace Rand
Hey, it's all good. So let me now officially introduce. That's stuff happens and it's all good. So, as I mentioned, Mike is a bestselling author, a course creator, passionate philanthropist, and he was able to transform his life from being a broke, desperate, divorced and alcoholic young man to becoming a wealthy businessman, loving husband and father. And I already mentioned that you have a wonderful retreat center down in Colombia. Is that actually where you're coming to us from right now?
    Mike Murphy
That's where I am right now.
    Gloria Grace Rand
Okay, wonderful. Well, we're going to talk about that because there's so much to talk to you about. I'm so impressed with all that you've been able to do. And there's a couple of different aspects I want to get into, but I like to start these interviews with diving into our guest background a little bit. And so talking about that, you certainly were able to transform your life, so kind of set the stage for us a little bit. Before you do that, I just want to let you know I'm going to actually have you be on screen by yourself. But don't freak out. I'm still here. So I had one guest get a…
    Mike Murphy
    Thank you.
    Gloria Grace Rand
…little nervous about that. But yeah. If you could share with us a little bit about kind of your journey and how you did make this transformation.
    Mike Murphy
Happy to be here. So I grew up in an alcoholic home. My dad just had two alcoholic parents and he never really had a chance. And early in his life, he shut his heart. So when you have a parent, my mother is very loving and my dad, you can access his heart. So that created like a bipolar thing in me and the fact that he was a traveling salesman and traveling manager salesman. So he would be home a week, gone a week. So literally perfect week, crazy week. And so that's kind of how I was wired. And we're all hardwired from our childhood programming deep into our subconscious. Until we figure that out and we can rewrite it, we're at the whim of the subconscious of someone else, programmed us like a computer. So, long story short, I ran away at 14, became a habitual runaway. Habitual juvenile delinquent, jail, car wrecks, all kinds of chaos. Found someone dumb enough to marry me. At 21, on my 23rd birthday, my beautiful baby daughter was born, who's now 43 something, but I had an 8th grade education, no credit, but bad credit, no future. I was drinking way too much, couldn't have a job. I'm living with her parents. She's the oldest of six. Her five siblings, her parents, my two month old baby and her. And I look in the mirror one Sunday afternoon and I go, dude, you are a total loser. It didn't really bother me that much, but the fact that everybody in that house knew I was a total loser really caused a lot of shame and humiliation. I didn't even own my own car. I took my clothes, I suit, one of their old beater cars, and I took off and partied for a week and was my typical pattern. When I wasn't happy, I ran away. And so a week later, I call her up, say, okay, I'm ready to come home now. And she says, unlike my parents, she said, no thanks, but no thanks. So I sat on the steps of the church where we'd been married just a few years, two years earlier, and I said, God, if you exist and I don't believe you do, you could truly manifest into a person, a human being. You could sit here on these steps with me and I could touch you, I could feel you, I could talk to you, then I could believe in you, and then I could change my life. God didn't show up. But by the grace of God, the next day, I ended up in a twelve step meeting. And for the first time, I felt a little hope that maybe there was hope for me, because I was always different, always insane. And that started this process. But because of the divorce now and the pain of losing my family and my wife and this little baby that I walked out on abandoned that. We got divorced, but I couldn't sell drugs and alcohol. I went from everyday user to a binge user, right? I would go to meetings, stay straight for three weeks, and I go crazy for a week. And boom, boom, boom. And one of the guys in the program my age, I was young to be in the program in those days. I was 24 at that point. And he said, man, I've never met anybody as messed up as you, but I know somebody that might be able to help you....

Namaste. Did you know that there are more women business leaders than ever before, which is really a great thing, but not so much at Fortune 500 companies. And that's what we're going to be talking about today is how we can change that with a wonderful guest that I'm going to be bringing on here shortly. But for those of who may be new, I am Gloria Grace, the light messenger, and really is my passion to help women, and entrepreneurs in particular, but women professionals to be able to really shine their light in the world. So without further ado, I am going to bring on our guest because he knows a thing or two about leadership. Let me just say that. So I'm going to bring him on and then introduce him officially. So his name is Paul Lawrence Vann and he is a retired lieutenant colonel with the US Air Force. He's also an international speaker, two-time best-selling author. His latest book is called Leadership is Influence, which we will be talking about. Yeah, you know, we're going to learn more about you, Paul, in a second. But now, right now, I want to officially welcome you to live, love, engage.
    Paul Lawrence Vann
I'm honored to be here and thank you so much, Grace. We're going to have a great time and sharing a very important topic. So I'm ready to roll.
    Gloria Grace Rand
Awesome. Well, let's start off with a little bit about your background. I alluded to the fact that you were in the air force. So what brought you to where you are today? Being a speaker? You're also a leadership consultant. This is definitely leadership is in your, not the bailiwick is not what I'm looking for. But anyway, this is your focus right now. So what prompted you to do that?
    Paul Lawrence Vann
Well, thank you for asking this question, Grace. And what brought me to leadership is that at the age of ten, my parents started a community grocery store. And there was no one more excited about it than me until my parents told me I would have to open up the store at the school each day. So at the age of ten, I had to give up any after school activities, sports, playing with my friends, different things such as that. And fast forward. I started building relationship with the vendors that came through with the customers, and it was actually growing and developing me as a leader at the age of ten. And then fast forward, I was a first generation high school graduate, first generation college graduate, and then first generation, two master's degrees. And then I joined the Air Force just after I received my degree. And of course, I had two years of Air Force ROTC at North Carolina State University. And that really got me started, and I ended up joining the Air Force and coming on duty as a commission officer as a second lieutenant about six months after I graduated from college. And so I attended every leadership school that the Air Force had to offer, and I led people. I managed different resources, equipment, and billions of multibillions of dollars. And then that's what led to me becoming an entrepreneur after I retired after a 20-year career in the United States Air Force.
    Gloria Grace Rand
Wow. That's amazing. And what I was thinking of, as you were describing all these wonderful experiences that you had that helped you to become a leader, I'm thinking that not everybody. Well, number one, is either cut out for leadership, or maybe number two, they're afraid to be a leader. But it seems like you really took that role on. You embraced it. Why do you think that is? Or what was it about leadership? Maybe that really appeals to you.
    Paul Lawrence Vann
Well, again, a great question. And what it really entailed is the fact that I have a functional specialty, which happens to be financial management. I'm a certified financial manager through the United States Air Force and the Department of Defense. And what I found out was, even though I have that functional specialty as a military officer, I'm also in a leadership position because I've led people to different contractors, plants for billions of dollars to the extent that some contracts, we had to actually let go. So I was in a leadership position, reporting directly to a two star General, and it was incumbent upon us to decide, do we save taxpayers money or do we go along with the program? At certain times, we had to drop the program. So $3 billion that impacts jobs. So these are all leadership roles. And one of the things I want to share with you is an individual who really inspired me for my life, the late Admiral Grace Hopper. And she came up with cobalt and everything, for all the languages that we have for computers. And she made this comment in my very first leadership classes. She said, we've been managing far too much. Instead of leading, she stated that we manage resources, dollars, and equipment, but we lead people. We need to get back to leading more. And that played an instrumental role in me really wanting to take on leadership. And even though people may not know this, but everyone is a leader, and the reason why I state this is because everyone has to lead their life. Good, bad. And that's one reason why I say that.
    Gloria Grace Rand
Yeah. Well, now, you raised a good point, and I love that she was a general. Yeah.
    Paul Lawrence Vann
    Navy general.
    Gloria Grace Rand
That's amazing. That inspired you. But making that distinction between managing and leader and being a leader. So what do you say the difference is?
    Paul Lawrence Vann
Well, the difference is when we come to leadership, we have to lead people. People want to be led. And I always use the example of if a person is in a corporation, there's a leader with the title that might be the CEO, the president, vice president. And then we have a manager, managers. They manage the workflow for the employees, and they are leaders as well. And then employees are also leaders because they actually get the work done. So we look at a manager, even though they're managing the workflow, they're still leading. And even though as an employee, they're still leading as well. And I'll use the example. When I used to work at UPS, I worked for four years of college because my parents couldn't afford to pay any tuition for me. And I worked. And what I learned was that I was leading. I made the decision to after school each day, after class, each day at campus, that I was going to go work, be able to afford college. And ultimately that would lead to me going into the United States Air Force. But leadership is all about people. It's all about people. And being a servant leader, you want to allow the employees, the subordinates, to be able to get the work done in a leader's role is to make sure they have everything they need in order for them to accomplish the vision, the mission and the goals of the organization or business.
    Gloria Grace Rand
Yeah. And that's absolutely a critical role for them to be able to play because otherwise, nothing's going to get done or it's going to get done half assed, shall we say?
    Paul Lawrence Vann
    Absolutely correct Grace yeah.
    Gloria Grace Rand
Now, you said that when we met previously at a publicity summit, and that you really are committed to helping more women to become leaders. So I'm going to say, number one, first off, why do you think it's so important that we have more women in leadership roles?
    Paul Lawrence Vann
Well, first of all, I have five sisters, so I'm backing them. And then I've worked for a lot of amazing women leaders. And so I think it's very important that when we look at women, especially if we looked at Fortune 500, more women should be in leadership roles. They have a larger population. They typically have more education,...

    TRANSCRIPT
Gloria Grace Rand: Namaste. I am Gloria Grace, the light messenger. And I am so excited because today we’re going to be talking a lot about, number one, how to stop working so hard for so little money. We’re going to talk about time management. And if these are issues that have vexed you in the past, you’re going to want to stick around and listen or watch if you’re watching this, either on social media or you’re watching on the replay on YouTube. But I’m going to be bringing on an awesome woman right now, and I’m going to bring her on and I’m going to introduce her as I bring her on. So her name is Carol Williams and she is a solo business owner, certified business life coach, and single mom who knows what it’s like to prioritize and pivot while building a life she loves.
Gloria Grace Rand: And after working in the design professions for 18 years, she struck out on her own in 2009, combining her passion for psychology and project management experience. And she helps scattered entrepreneurs so they can live their lives and have the business they dream about, which I think is something that we all want. Definitely. I know I do. So welcome, Carol, officially to live, love, engage.
Carol Williams: I am absolutely thrilled to be here.
Gloria Grace Rand: Well, I’m thrilled to have you because I know that I’ve gotten better, I think, with time management, but there’s still times when I could use some help. So I’m curious to have you get into that. But I want to start a little bit because I love to ask our guests a little bit about their background. And so I mentioned that we’re working in design. So what made you decide to kind of go out on your own and launch?
Carol Williams: Yeah. So, Gloria, as I talk, please interrupt me because I’m not known for a short, succinct answer. If I were to give a short and succinct answer, it was quite simple. And that is, I was laid off. I was in the design professions. I had worked at the job I was working at in nine for about 13 years out of the 18 years. And design and construction are tied together. And anybody who’s been around the block for a little while will know that in nine we had a great recession. And when you don’t have construction, you really don’t need a project manager. So that’s why I said, well, God, do something else.
Gloria Grace Rand: I know that feeling well because I was, in 2009 myself was when I actually launched my business doing SEO copywriting because I was working part time for the television station I used to work full time for. And I was in the middle of training or studying about this anyway, and they said, well, we don’t really need you anymore. Writing the calendar, the monthly calendar. I’m like, okay, I guess that’s a sign I’m meant to dive in.
Carol Williams: Sometimes we have to do that.
Gloria Grace Rand: So how did you get started? What was that experience like for you of launching your own business?
Carol Williams: Yeah. Well, let’s see. I definitely did not plan on this. I guess I’m one of those accidental entrepreneurs, which I’m glad to hear that you and I share that. That’s even one more thing besides spirituality and just general coolness that we share. So I was like, at first, obviously, I tried to get another job, even though I probably knew it was unlikely. Once I said, that’s it, I’m going to be an entrepreneur.
Carol Williams: And I did it really out of necessity. I just took one step at a time, I’ll be honest with you. I started out as a professional organizer and right away put an ad in the paper and got a local tv person to do a little show on me. I got a website. I did all the things and I did them quickly. And I’d like to share that. I did them so quickly. Well, first of all, because I don’t have a lot of energy, which is kind of cool, but there’s actually, for every gift and every strength, there’s a corresponding lesser strength or weakness. Right. And that actually just going to touch a little bit on my main topic. Stop working so hard for so little money.
Carol Williams: Had I not been in that kind of a hurry up, a rush, and if I’m completely open and honest, huge fear. We were living in this, and I know the pandemic, there was a lot of fear as well. Of course, in that moment, it felt for me and my former husband like the whole world was caving in on us. So that was, I had, like a one year old and a six year old, and I kind of knew it, but it really became obvious. A toxic husband, and the fear was just palpable.
Carol Williams: So that’s why I was in this big, fat rush. I had a do over. I would have slowed down because that big rush actually wound up having me redo things. And that rush continued for years in different ways, which I’m happy to answer questions about. But as I said in the beginning, I’m not that succinct all the time. That was how I got started.
Gloria Grace Rand: Well, and that, I think, leads into my next question, and you’re sort of hinting at it, is then what kind of lessons did you learn along the way. You mentioned already about the need that you should have slowed down. So was there something in particular, maybe, that even then deals with either time management or, as you say, working so hard for so little money? What did you learn?
Carol Williams: What did I learn? I learned that with my first coach, which was, I started my business in 2009, right. I think April 1 was the official start date of it. And within three weeks or something, I had a website, like, a rough business plan, and I hired a coach. And she said, oh, my gosh. Nobody’s this far ahead. You’re so far ahead. I said, how do I make some money? How do I make some money? And she goes, well, you need to not need the money. And I said, what the heck do you mean, not need the money? I did not understand. We were, like, doing one of these. And now I know.
Carol Williams: Now I know. So if I were to do it over, I’d actually listen to the people that I hire. You can’t be in this needy space. So that’s a lesson for those of you who are, like, getting after they’re working. You’re working really hard, and you don’t seem to be making the money. The answer might be counterintuitive, and that is slow down. Maybe listen to some of the light language that Gloria does at the end of every one of these and really breathe into some of the messages, because it’s all there for us.
Carol Williams: We just have to listen. Listen to the Angels around us, listen to the angels that live within us. I believe the divine lives within us and then allow ourselves to take one step at a time and be open to failure, because failure will absolutely happen. In fact, Sarah Blakely. Right. You know Sarah Blakely, the woman who did the Spanx. Right. Did you know the story how she sat around the table with her father, and they always said, like, at the end of every day, what did you fail at? That was the question. Her father said, what did you fail at today? And they had to give an answer.
Gloria Grace Rand: I like that. Yeah. We have such a. I don’t want to say bias, but like, this feeling that failure is. Oh, well, that. It’s, like, shameful. That’s what I’m trying to think, that it’s a shame thing to fail. But it’s how we learn. We have to be able 100% do that. Yeah. So why doth you actually. Here, let me rephrase that. Why do entrepreneurs have trouble with time management?
Carol Williams: Right. Well, I believe people often will have time management issues when it’s really, they think they do because the world is saying, oh,...

    00:00:29 - Gloria "Grace" Rand
Are you ready to redefine the boundaries of your life and career? Well, if so, today's edition of Live Love Engage is for you. And first off, I want to say Namaste. As I realized, I normally start my podcast off by saying that, and I didn't do that. So, Namaste. I am Grace Rand, the light messenger and holistic business guide. And I'm delighted to be with you today and to also have a guest. And we are broadcasting live on Facebook and LinkedIn today. And I am so happy to be back doing live interviews in the new year. So I want to tell you a little bit about our guest today. She is an author whose passion lies in crafting inspiring novels that impact readers on a deep emotional level. And her name is Leigh Lincoln. And she aims to inspire, uplift, and provoke thoughtful conversations. And she also believes that no one is too old not to adapt, to evolve and to achieve something more. And she says that all women can find their voice, no matter who they are or what they do. And we're going to talk about that in a moment. But first off, I want to bring Leigh onto the show and welcome you officially today to live love engage.
    00:01:51 - Leigh Lincoln
    Hi. Thanks for having me.
    00:01:54 - Gloria "Grace" Rand
I'm so glad you're here, and I'm really curious to know more about you. But I did want to start off, as I said there, to talk about a little bit about why you really do believe that it's important for women to find their voice and make their own rules. So why do you say that?
    00:02:17 - Leigh Lincoln
Well, we, as women so often are told we are “just.” And you can fill in the blank with whatever that is. We're just a woman. We are just moms. We are just whatever. And then that puts us in a box, and it often limits us and limits what we think we can do. And society has a lot of rules for women that we're supposed to follow and how we're supposed to look and act, right? And a lot of times, if women are forceful, loud, brag about their accomplishments, then they're told that they're pushy or rude or aggressive. And that isn't true. No. You should be loud. You should be proud. You should know who and what you are, right? Yeah. And you shouldn't let people tell you any of those things. You should know who you are. You should know what your passion is, and you should be out there screaming to the world what you can do, and you should be able to change the world because of it.
    Gloria "Grace" Rand
Now, I'm curious about something because I definitely, I 100% agree with you. Number one, and I can feel your passion about this. So is there a particular reason, is this maybe close to home about why you feel this way, I wonder? And maybe that fits into why you started to write books, perhaps you could kind of touch on that.
    Leigh Lincoln
Yeah, the whole reason this kind of got started was because I didn't set out to become an author at all. So I used to do homeless and poverty advocacy for 30 something years, and I was at a community meeting one night. Well, to back up a little bit, I worked in homeless shelters. I was on all these committee meetings and helped low income families, blah, blah, blah, whatever. The list went on. So I was at this meeting one night, and the topic was really interesting to me. I had something I wanted to say, but the guy who was running the meeting pointed to the politician, to the businessman, to all of these other people, and he just ignored me. So at the end of the meeting, I went up to this guy to try to get my point across, and he shut me down in a hot minute. And instead of listening to me, he gave me 50 excuses why he didn't want to listen to me. I was just a mom. I was just a woman. I didn't have the right background, the right education, blah, blah, blah. Right. It would have taken him less time to listen to me than it did for me to hear his excuses. And I went home that night, and I was just so frustrated and angry because it had hit me like a slap in the face that this guy was not the only one who just ignored my opinion. It had happened over and over and over again, but it was just this wake up call. Like, what in the world? Why do I keep letting people do this to me? And so I went home that night, and I just started. I pulled out a notebook because I was a homeschooling mom at that. Not only was I a single mother, I was a homeschooling single mother. So I pulled out a notebook, and I just started journaling out my frustrations. And three months later, or something like three months later, I looked at what I'd written, and I had accidentally written a novel, because at some point, I flipped from writing about myself to writing in first person perspective from a homeless woman because I'd worked with so many homeless women. And I can see why I did it because there's a lot of parallels between feeling ignored like I did, because a lot of homeless women just are completely ignored. They hide in the shadows. And so I can see why I did it. I don't know when I did it, but I just completely flipped. And I wrote my first novel, Road Home. And I was just like, okay, nobody's going to read this because everybody's been ignoring me for all these years. Why would anybody read it? So I thought, I'll clean it up a little bit, throw it out in their universe, see what happens. Maybe I'll sell 10, 15 copies, maybe 20 if I get lucky, right? Raise a couple of bucks for charity. Life will be good. But here's the thing. You publish a book, all of a sudden you're an expert. It's a thing.
    Gloria "Grace" Rand
    That's wonderful, isn't it?
    Leigh Lincoln
    Yeah.
    Gloria "Grace" Rand
So what did that mean for you, though? What impact did that have on now suddenly being called an expert?
    Leigh Lincoln
Yeah. So I still didn't have the degree everybody wanted. I still didn't have the job experience. No, nothing else changed in my life except for now. I had this published novel out there, and so all of a sudden, I was getting asked to speak on homeless and poverty issues. All of a sudden, everyone wanted my opinion. It was kind of crazy. And I was selling these books like hotcakes. It was, like, kind of insane. And it took me a long time to really see myself as different because I'd been told I wasn't anybody for so long that even I had kind of internalized it without even realizing it. And so it took me a while to really grasp what had changed. And so after a few months, people started saying, well, you really need to write another book. And I was like, well, why? I'm not an author, right? Because it took me a long time to accept that as part of my identity. And so here's the thing. And again, at the beginning, right, I said that we need to really figure out who we are and claim that because we allow other people to tell us what we are for so long, right? And I did. And I was just like, wait, no, I'm just this quiet little mom, right? And so it took me a long time. It was years before I really got up the courage to write another book. And when I finally did, I was like, who's really going to read this? Because it's kind of out there and weird. But then people loved it. And I was like, okay, then I guess I'm going to claim this I'm an author thing, right?
    Gloria "Grace" Rand
    I think you should.
    Leigh Lincoln
And now I have five, so we're just rolling.
    Gloria "Grace" Rand
Oh, my gosh. Wow. Well, so many things are going through my head right now. And number one is, what do you think it took to really make that switch in your brain to finally say, okay, yes, I'm going to claim this. I am an author. Was there, like, one particular moment, maybe, where you finally said, okay, I'm going to do this, or what do you think?
    Leigh Lincoln
Well, I think a lot of it was just the validation I was getting from others as part of it. People just kept saying, it was a really good book, my first one. But part of it was me realizing that I had a lot to say, and I'd just been bottling it up for years....

    Jeannie Lynch
Happy to be back in your energy. So very happy to be oh, and.
    Gloria Grace Rand
I could say the same thing me to you because I had a wonderful experience chatting with you a while back, and now I'm pleased to turn the table so that we can share you with my audience today. And I would love for you to start off telling us a little bit about what got you into this spiritual coaching business space because I know that you were doing something different, I think, a little while ago, so you can.
    Jeannie Lynch
Share that with me, definitely. I think I have a very similar background to many people out there in the sense that how we get into these modalities of helping other people is that we go through something right. So I'm sure many of the guests you've had have started this conversation the same way, but just a little backdrop to kind of why I think we connected so much too. 25 years in banking, left brained, helping people navigate finances, helping them start businesses. People would come to me with the idea all messed up in their head and didn't know how to put it out on paper. And I would step in and become like a coach and a mentor and give them those first steps at the same time mentoring and managing people. So I've always been. I'm an Aries. I don't know if that means anything to your audience. It certainly means everything to me. I'm not a follower. I'm a leader. I'm a good leader. I'd like to think how I'm led is really important to me. I've always been really connected to people who could motivate and inspire and just help me navigate those really tough things that happen in our life. And I love helping people through challenges and I love the rough edges and the people who are starting. And I love giving people chances because most of my mentors came to me in the same way, didn't have a lot of formal education and a lot of opportunities in my past. So I am your perfect example of having to work your way up and start in at ground zero to become anything. And I believe that everybody can do that. And I think what really helps is to find the right mentor and person to love and support you through that process. So if that kind of starts this conversation, that's how it all started with me.
    Gloria Grace Rand
I love that. You're right. Having a mentor, someone to guide you along the way, is so important. I know I've had several that have helped me on my spiritual journey. And I'm going to ask you this because we're going to get into some more stuff in a second, but what was like your biggest takeaway, maybe from one of your mentors?
    Jeannie Lynch
I think very early on that I was moldable and malleable and just the idea of the great mentors for me are somebody who asks a lot of great questions like, well, what do you want to do? Or how does that work for you? Or what are you passionate about? And when you're starting out in the very beginning and you're not sure, I'm kind of having a flashback to one of the first men that came into my life. And he came in relatively later on in life, but I didn't watercolor at that time. I wasn't a biker, I wasn't all these things. And he just kind of kept asking great questions and was like, well, I can help you do that. Next thing I know, I had a bike and then I had a watercolor set. And these are still things that are in my experience today that I love to do. So that whole shapable, moldable, malleable aspect of when people are in that place, that growing space and giving people around you those opportunities to say, have you tried this? You can do this, and then you find your way. So having those people in my life and then again, I want to be that same person to people that I love and support. So that's really the connection.
    Gloria Grace Rand
That's cool. When you work with clients, what do they typically come to you for? What are they seeking? What kind of help are they really looking for?
    Jeannie Lynch
I tend to attract two different aspects, but they're always the same mindset, and they're people who want to understand spirituality broader. So they're people who are in the spiritual world who want to understand not maybe one organized religion aspect of it, but it's open to all the ways that I guess we can walk the path and as many different paths as there is. So those tend to be the people that find me and then the other people that find me. And most of them are through referrals, have been through something, and they just need someone to maybe sit with and hold their hand through it. They're getting ready to go through a divorce, or they've just lost a child. That was kind of how my whole coaching practice on a spiritual level started. I had lost my own daughter back in 2005. And then people started saying, oh, my gosh, you should talk to Jeannie. You just lost a child too. She went through this two years ago, and she's got some great things that maybe could help you, and she's doing this and this work for her. Would you like to connect with her? There was one woman in my past. By the time I actually sat with her, she said that 13 people had referred her to talk to me because there was just such a need in the community for people to support people just through grief. So sitting with people in the very beginning of grief and helping them navigate through that, which is the most sacred process, and I know you can totally relate to that. Somebody who can trust you with their grief, to me, is like the most honorable energy out there, because I know what it was like to sit with the people I needed to sit with in the very beginning of my grief. So that started my kind of coaching practice. But I was already always mentoring people in my business. When I went through this beautiful awakening with the loss of my daughter in 2005, all of a sudden I just needed more, right? So I got out of the banking. I moved to Florida. I found my yoga mat. I got quiet. I really finished my healing. And then my beautiful man at one point came home and found me on my yoga mat,...

    Gloria Grace Rand
Yes, well, you're lucky to have sunshine because here in central Florida, we have a bit of a rain, but most of the rain has passed us by, and so I think we're going to be good for our interview this afternoon.
    Yvonne Nobles
    Awesome.
    Gloria Grace Rand
So I love to start off these podcasts asking our guests a little bit about their journey and specifically what got you into being this speaker and success strategist and all the wonderful things that you are involved in. So wonder if you can share with us a little bit about that.
    Yvonne Nobles
Oh, beautiful question. I always say, when it comes to the coaching and speaking arena, those are things that choose you. And so when I look back on some of the experiences I had as a child, I was actually two years old when my dad enlisted in the military. And from there, we ended up traveling. His first huge assignment was overseas in Germany. So at the age of six, I met the man that would eventually become my husband. He was nine. So, puppy love at first, but it turned into something amazing 25 years later when our moms brought us back together. And in the midst of being apart and living life and growing up, having a lot of experiences that some would be embittered by or be full of hate or spite, you know, it was that experience in Germany meeting a bunch of Holocaust survivors, that led to me embracing, no matter what happens in life, you can find the gold, you can find positivity. And I was just so inspired by people who lived through that, and they still loved, still laughed. And I was just driven to find a way to help more people stay positive.
    Gloria Grace Rand
Well, that is amazing. And I'm still just flabbergasted by meeting as a child. We're going to get back to this stuff, but I would love to know because I'm just curious, and I think it would be interesting, too. So how did you then reconnect what you said, like 25 years later or something? How did that happen?
    Yvonne Nobles
Yeah, our families did kind of touch base every now and then, so I have recalls, but I don't see it vividly. I see the color, I hear the sounds, but I remember seeing each other through our teens, our early 20s. But it was that 25 year mark. My mom went to visit his mother. They're best friends that she says, guess who's here? And I'm like, who? And she goes, Lewis. And I'm like, little Lou. Put him on the phone. And I'm expecting to hear this voice that I remembered. No, the deep bass boom. And I didn't think much of that exchange. We spoke maybe a few minutes, caught up briefly, and then fast forward. A couple of days later, I get this number calling. I don't know the number, so I ignore it. But I'm on the phone with our mothers at the time. They're in the car together, and I'm like, someone's calling me. I don't know who it is. I'll get back to them later. Little did I know, my mom had given him my phone number. She didn't warn me, though. I was so upset. And I told him, I'm going to kill her. But it was the best thing ever. So you got to love moms, and you got to trust heart. I didn't mention that when we were little, we kissed. The first day we met, it was all his fault. We were playing hide and go seek. I got in trouble for it. But I did write him one of those little cute little letters that when you're a kid, do you like me? Check yes or no. And I said, I think you're so beautiful. I misspelled it. Creative license. But his mom kept that letter for years. And so when he spoke to me, he's like, do you remember that letter? And I realistically, honestly did not until I hung up the phone and everything came rushing back. And I knew two weeks after that call we were going to be married.
    Gloria Grace Rand
    Wow.
    Yvonne Nobles
But I didn't tell him. I waited for him to ask, and when he did, he was over the moon screaming with joy, I knew. So love is just an amazing, beautiful thing.
    Gloria Grace Rand
I love that. I love that. It's funny, I had a relationship with a boy when I was probably four or five.
    Yvonne Nobles
    Yeah?
    Gloria Grace Rand
But what I remember about that is every time, because his mom and my mom were friends and so they would visit and so I would come along, tag along and go play with Teddy. And every time we left, we would just insult each other. That was our way of saying we would just call each other names. But it was just so silly and it's so fun. I love that. What a very cool story. So somehow along the way, you wound up starting a career. And I know you've got, I believe, well, I mentioned in your bio that you led like million dollar sales teams and things like that. But now, today, I mean, you're this success strategist. So what really got you interested in really being able to help other entrepreneurs? I presume it's, I believe it's entrepreneurs that you work with. What really got you into focusing, I guess that is focusing in on success and strategies?
    Yvonne Nobles
Well, for the irony of anyone who are listening in your audience, life has a way of taking you the long, scenic route. So I didn't know for certain that's what I was going to end up doing. Along the way, I've had jobs and I've kind of fell into the sales arena. I always hated the thought of sales. I thought those are car salesmen or the oily guys that would knock on the doors and sell you encyclopedias when I was little. And I would go to these arenas, try a job out, I'd never follow the rules. I would always focus on connection, story, getting people to laugh, brighten their day, and getting referrals. Even if I never sold you, I knew you needed someone who might need the service. And so that eventually would lead to me outperforming teams and people who'd been there for years, when I'm new. The most ironic one to me was when I was in the cruise industry. I just lost dad. We relocated from New York and we're here in South Florida looking for something to pay the bills. And a dear friend said, you should come and try selling cruises. I've never even been on one. How could I be good at that? And she's like, trust me, I think you'd be great. She saw something I didn't even know....

    Maribeth Decker
I am so glad to be here, Gloria, thank you for the introduction and the fact that we can talk about living fully, because animals in my life are part of the reason it's easier for me to live fully.
    Gloria Grace Rand
Absolutely. Yeah. And I know they say that animals help us, especially as we age and get up in years and especially even like retirees. I think if you're not working anymore, it's really good to have a pet companion to help you live longer. And I know I've read that somewhere and if anybody. Yeah. So I would love to know, and I'd like to start these episodes getting to know our guests a little bit more and especially on their journey. And what brought you here today. So, how did you get interested specifically in becoming this animal communicator?
    Maribeth Decker
I never tire of answering that question because I have so many lovely stories attached to it. I did not know that animal communication was a thing. So what happened is I finished a Navy career, Navy officer, was in an association, and at some point I said, I think I'm going to start some energy healing. Learn that. And when I started to learn energy healing, my dog started communicating with me. Holy cow. What the heck? So the first time was my dog, Timmy, who had passed away. So this is a dead dog coming back. I'm making dinner in the kitchen, and out of the corner of my eye, I see him sitting in the dining room. And what's so lovely is his. I mean, we've heard a lot of ghost stories. If you're like me, I love ghost stories, but he's a full body. It looks like my guy is back, in the flesh. So, Timmy, I'm like, whoa, man. Because it's one ear up, one ear down, if you know my dog. And then he disappeared. But I knew I'm a pets. Pets survived death. They're still intact. And the guy came back to tell me he loved me. So can he get any better than that? And then that started the journey. Wow.
    Gloria Grace Rand
So tell me a little bit more about that. So what did you do next? I mean, you're discovering now that you're able to be able to kind of communicate with even pets that are no longer here.
    Maribeth Decker
So I hope people will laugh because my kids are younger at the time. And what I did next was I finished cooking dinner. Yeah, well, got to feed the kids, but I had a couple more wonderful experiences. And I finally said to a friend, Mary, what was going on? And she says, that's animal communication, Maribeth. I said, really? And I got training in it, so it's great when it happens to you, but I was at the point where, wow, I want to know how to do this. And at that point, when I started working with people and their animals, as an animal communicator, I still had my energy healing skills and I still use them. But the hearts of the human beings who come to me are so open. So it's like a double goodness. I have these human beings who love their pets so much, they're there. And I have these pets that I get to, animals that I get to talk to and communicate with and see if I can help get them and their people back on track or help provide information about their physical issues. And I just fell in love with the whole scene. I got to say, it's just a great place to be.
    Gloria Grace Rand
Well, you just sort of alluded to something that I was going to ask you about. So why would someone come to an animal communicator? What are they, what are they hoping that you can help them with?
    Maribeth Decker
There is a lot of things that people come to me for. There are the basics for me. There's like, why is my cat not using a litter box? This is really annoying. Or my dogs really pull on the leash. Now, I'm not a cat behaviorist, I'm not a dog trainer, but I come from the inside to find out what the emotion or the belief behind it, and then see if we can ask them to make changes, rather without telling them. So there's some basic physical stuff. Some people come to find out how they're feeling physically, and I pick that stuff up pretty well. So something as simple as is the pain medication working or where do you feel it? And things like that and providing information in that area. Then there's also behavioral problems. I worked with a woman this week and her horse, and she felt that they were disconnected and she really loved this horse. So we went through what was going through, his emotion, his minds on the subject, and we came up with a way of communicating to him how they could reconnect heart to heart and have a good life together. So there's all sorts of things like that end of life. That's the other thing is I wrote a book, Peace and Passing comfort for loving humans during animal transitions, to help folks through their journey when their animal starts to go on the decline. But I help them through that again, maybe the physical, maybe the emotional. What do they need? How to help? Even I help through the transition, and we sometimes even connect afterwards to find out how they're doing or say some things that didn't get to be said before the animal passed.
    Gloria Grace Rand
That's a wonderful service to have because I know I had a cat pass on probably over ten years ago now. And it was so sudden that I was really surprised and was just all of a sudden she just got ill and left. And we had had to put, I'm thinking now I'm trying to remember because we had a dog as well, and it was like we lost both of these pets within about a year of each other. And they were both fairly young, too, and it was very disappointing. But we got new pets now. But, yeah, it would have been nice to maybe be able to, number one,...
