Coming from the center of textile innovation in the Netherlands, this episode dives into smart textiles and where this technology is going. Is it too invasive? Laura interviews Gemma and Assistant Professor Edwin Diertien, making waves with integrating theatre and robotics, while also teaching Mastering Tinkering and Social Robot Design, to add more ideation and creation to a strong technical field. Nefeli, Cari and Laura provide commentary as they listen back on the episode, sharing their previous insights into wearables and how the interviewees answers brought some new food for thought.
In the first episode 'Dutch Design Week: They built, You Saw, We connected', Laura and Nefeli explore the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven, where they both get hands-on experience with the visitors and participants. The episode showcases two of the University of Twente projects in the Dutch Design Week. Together with Naomi van Stralen & Andries Wijnveen, they deep dive into their project: the gender-neutral toy “Maatje”. Julieta Matos-Castaño, reveals project “Future Frictions” in a discussion between Nefeli and Carithea.
We explored DesignLab’s newest approach to creating responsible technologies, developed by our own researcher Cristina Zaga. This approach, Responsible Futuring, is built upon the three focus areas of DesignLab: Citizen Science, Responsible Design by working Transdisciplinary. This time we unravel the story of transitioning from Science to Design for Society to the new Responsible Futuring approach.
Tyrell and Thyne share their experiences during and after the UT Challenge event at University of Twente. One has successfully set-up the start-up Plaex based on an idea that was partially developed in the event. And the other helped co-hosting it in this year’s hybrid (physical/digital) version. We follow along their journeys through success and challenges.
We invite Tyrell and Thyne to share with us their experiences during and after the UT Challenge event at University of Twente. We follow along their journeys through success and challenges.
Pieter Riem and Dirk Wanders share their experiences designing and executing the interior of two unique rooms in DesignLab. By building a large and multifunctional collaborative space, as well as a small-group brainstorming room, Pieter and Dirk faced challenges that a student rarely is entrusted to overcome. Like, for example handling big budgets and hiring contractors.
Pilot - Project leader Operations Nicole Wright and DreamTeamer Chetena Pai will talk us through their experiences as part of DesignLabs’ own social distancing task force. Their efforts successfully kept us all safe while we worked in DesignLab. Now we dive into how it all came to be.
