Joel Negus was raised by professional musicians in Chicago, IL, and became a founding member of the metal band, Born of Osiris. Before they were signed to Sumerian Records, he met a woman (his future wife) who kicked off a new trajectory for his life. His passion redirected him towards a pursuit of classical music and orchestral excellence with the upright bass at the Cleveland Institute of Music. A few reckless decisions later he found himself in a downward spiral, looking for help. A friend told him to read Ephesians, and that became a turning point for him as he realized that he was capable of hurting other significantly; he already had hurt others deeply. Meeting Jesus was life-changing for Joel. He is now a Pastor of City Church in Cleveland Heights, OH, who helps to equip new pastors and church plants deploy the Gospel in neighborhoods that desperately need it. He describes the successes and failures of this process as well as advice for that mission.
