You never know unless you ask... In this case it was me stumbling across a random Instagram page I thought was funny and sending the account owner a DM asking if he wanted to be on my non-existent podcast.
Today we've got Temi Ayodele (I completely butchered his name in the recording) on the show who started The Bratpackers, a travel satire website aimed at poking fun of the ridiculousness of the travel blogging space. Temi and I have never met in person, but got along right from the jump due to our collective hatred of typical travel bloggers. I was particularly interested in having Temi on the show because The Bratpackers isn't a full-time gig for him. He just got his masters, works a standard office job in New York City, and his website just happens to be a fun side project to keep him sane. At this point, it's not for the money, but he literally started it as a way to "make his friends laugh." I appreciate that.
We also picked up a sponsor for the episode. Use promo code: HYDRODIFFERENT by tweeting it at @yopro_ and earn up to 20% off your first purchase.
You can keep up with everything Temi is doing on Instagram @TheBratpackers or on his site www.thebratpackers.com.
I thought I was creating a brand that meant something with yopro... and then I talked to Kayla...
In today's episode I sat down with Kayla O'Connor who is the founder of the clothing company called Blue Seaciety. Her entire brand (and I mean her ENTIREEEE brand) is built around connecting a community through the power and emotions of the ocean. Oh, and she makes damn cool clothes, too. We covered off on a bit of everything from how she rolls with the punches of startup life, to dealing with a whole lot of "no's" along the way.
If you're trying to get some gifts for the holidays or want to check out what Kayla and Blue Seaciety are doing, you can shop the store at blueseaciety.com or follow along on Instagram @blueseaciety.
I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing, but I started a podcast as an excuse to sit down with creative people to talk about the crazy stuff they're building and doing. Episode 1 of Destination: Different sits down with New Zealander, Nick Corliss, to talk about how he built up his own organic smoothie company before packing his bags and moving to Bali to work on the social good side of a cryptocurrency startup. We covered everything from the power of community, to laughing yoga, to making efforts towards physical and mental health every single day. Nick is a big-time legend and if you listen for no reason other than to hear Nick's Kiwi colloquialisms, you'll have made a good decision.
Hope you enjoy!
