After David defeats Goliath, David has popularity with everyone.  David was successful in everything that he did.  He obeyed King Saul with every command he was given regardless of how ridiculous the command was.  He was so successful that the king promotes him.

"5 And David went out and was successful wherever Saul sent him; so that Saul set him over the men of war. And this was good in the sight of all the people and also in the sight of Saul's servants." (1 Samuel 18:5 RSV)

King Saul even gives his daughter, Michal to him in marriage.  Imagine this tremendous honor?

On the surface, it appears as though King Saul is promoting David because of his great military success and humility.  On the contrary, it was Destiny's Arrow that was propelling David into success.

An amazing bond developed between David and King Saul's son, the crown prince Jonathan.

"1 When he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul." (1 Samuel 18:1 RSV)

A similar bond was created between Israel (Jacob) and his son, Joseph.

"3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than any other of his children, because he was the son of his old age; and he made him a long robe with sleeves." (Genesis 37:3 RSV)

Jacob made a coat of many colors for Joseph.  Similarly, Jonathan put his own robe upon David.

"4 And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his armor, and even his sword and his bow and his girdle." (1 Samuel 18:4 RSV)

Whenever I lose video in my FaceTime conversations with my 7-year-old nephew,  he says, “poor connection.”   Many people have poor connections in life.   Poor connections can cause you to miss destiny defining moments.  In contrast, one destiny defining connection can cause you to find your way in life.  This week, I will teach you about a destiny defining connection.  King Saul found a destiny connection when he inquired about the young lad, David who had just slain the giant, Goliath.

Previously, we discovered the great bravery of Saul when he snatched the Tablets of the 10 Commandments from Goliath in battle.  Saul may already recognize that he is destined for greatness from the sign of snatching the tablets.  Now we will see how Saul pursued his purpose.  Through this study, you will receive the tools for the Pursuit of Purpose in your own life.

Who was this man that was Head & Shoulders Above?  This man was Saul who became the first king of Israel.  What were the signs that caused Saul to rise to greatness?  Surely Scripture is not telling us that he is “Head & Shoulders Above” to emphasize his physical height or is it?

What was the secret to David’s greatness?  Was it due to his compilation of the Psalms?  Was it his role as the shepherd of Israel?   Was his greatness due to his great military exploits?  We will explore this question on Thursday evening.  The secret to David’s greatness is also the secret to your greatness.  David’s greatness shined through when he put on King Saul’s armor.  1 Samuel 17:38 (RSV) “38 Then Saul clothed David with his armor; he put a helmet of bronze on his head, and clothed him with a coat of mail.”  The armor fit David perfectly like a glove.  Should David have worn it?

The secret of Abraham’s greatness is found in the addition of a Hebrew letter to his name.  

[Genesis 17:5 (RSV)] “5 No longer shall your name be Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations.”

The letter that was added to his name represents the “The Breath of God.”

He often argued within the framework of rabbinical interpretation of the Law… In Jesus, the same Word of God, that had resounded on Mount Sinai to give the written Law to Moses, made itself heard anew on the Mount of the Beatitudes.  Jesus did not abolish the Law but fulfilled it by giving its ultimate interpretation in a divine way.”

Jesus reveals Himself as the Aleph-Beit in Revelation.

[Revelation 22:13 RSV] "13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.””

Biblical Hebrew is known as the Lashon HaKodesh, the Holy Tongue.  Biblical Hebrew is the only language that is Divinely created.  Each letter of the Hebrew Aleph-Beit has been formed and shaped by God alone.  As you study and mediate in the letters of light, you will receive wisdom and understanding from God's Word that will transform your exile into redemption. 

Joshua 1:8 (RSV) "This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success."

Each letter is so laden with meaning that the greatest rabbinic scholars have engaged in countless hours of in-depth study to understand why God made them the way He did.  For example, each Hebrew letter possesses:

The Hebrew letters are letters of light.  Jesus is the light.

[John 8:12 RSV] "12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.””

Jesus is hidden within each letter of the Aleph-Beit and He will transform every place of exile in your soul into redemption.  Each Hebrew letter radiates light, insight and clarity.  Jesus is the living Aleph-Beit.   When Jesus said He is the Alpha and Omega, He was saying that He is Aleph-Beit.
