Fact vs. Fiction:
Appearance: Unlike the troubled, drug-addicted figures played by Johnny Depp (From Hell) or Michael Caine, the real Abberline was described by colleagues as looking like a sober "bank manager" or "solicitor".
The Suspect: Abberline’s own primary suspect for the Ripper killings was George Chapman (Severin Klosowski), a barber-surgeon and convicted wife-poisoner.
Legacy in Bournemouth:
Final Years: Abberline retired to "Estcourt" at 195 Holdenhurst Road in Bournemouth.
Recognition: For 78 years, he lay in an unmarked grave at Wimborne Road Cemetery. In 2007, a public campaign involving modern police and Ripper historians finally erected a headstone to honor his service.
