Julianna Sanromán's paintings have an ethereal, otherworldly feel to it. But their subject matter is rooted in something deeply real and personal: the pain of family deportation. We talked to the Detroit artist about the hard realities of growing up divided between two worlds--and how her paintings are shaped by the longing to remember moments of family togetherness.
