The panel goes into detail on the most common reasons to give a discount, sharing experiences and whether or not it's a good idea to give these types of discounts. They generally agree that a "friends and family discount" is never a good idea and discuss the long term problems it can cause both in relationships and your business. The panel discusses offering a discount to get your foot in the door and to better your portfolio. Supporting non-profits and making sure you receive the proper credit for your work is discussed.

Offering discounts as part of your business model is considered, discounts such as paying upfront or high volume discounts, are weighed. Jeremy Green shares an experience and warning against helping a business just because you like what they are doing. The panel gives advice on how to say no to someone asking for a discount.  They finish the episode with more advice on why to give a discount and explain some of the negative effects giving out too many discounts or giving discounts for the wrong reason can have on your business.

Today the panel is talking about the many applications of Docker. They talk about where Docker fits into the development lifestyle and what kind of applications Docker can help with. Dave goes over some of the some of the Docker terminology, how to set up some basic scenarios, and some of the difficulties often encountered by first time users. They talk about how to make sure you’re putting together a Docker file correctly.

The panel agrees that Docker had a different workflow from other systems, and discuss some of the tradeoffs of using docker. They mention some specific use cases for docker and what it’s like to migrate to Docker. Dave cautions listeners that databases needs to exist outside of Docker or Kubernetes. Dave and Andrew argue whether or not Docker belongs in the developer environment.

The panel discusses ways to maintain productivity when introducing Docker and give some advice to programmers who are new to using Docker. They talk about cases where using Docker can be very helpful. They wrap up by talking about how to get started with Docker in your CI/CD and how to run tests with Docker.

On today’s show the panel discusses what what jobs should be delegated to the front and backend when doing fullstack development with React. They talk about where the data fetching starts coming into play in a react app and the big changes from the old web to the modern web in data fetching. They discuss how much interaction with the backend there is when working with front end applications, but also the importance of properly separating backend and frontend teams.

They discuss the pros and cons of separating the front and backend teams, and agree that the problem space between both back and frontend is the user interface. They talk about where middlewares fit in. The panel notes that it is important to ensure that your new app can still communicate with older versions, and talk about different ways of dealing with it, such as continually evolving schema, installing new versions, or even never deleting anything and only adding new events.

The panel talks about who should work the middle layer and who, between frontend and backend developers, should be put in charge of maintaining it. They discuss the misconception that using React makes server-side jobs irrelevant and how React actually helps. They note how automation in programming has changed the way that people use the web. They conclude by saying it is important to understand there are different ways to do these kinds of things, and encouraging listeners to look at the abstractions being built out in the serverless world

Azure functions are the serverless functions on Azure. Colby explains what the Azure functions premium plan entails, then talks about KEDA - Kubernetes-based event-driven autoscaling, a Microsoft and Red Hat partnered open source component to provide event-driven capabilities for any Kubernetes workload. One of the other cool features of serverless functions they talk about is the Azure serverless community library.
