  • HIGHER LOVE - JESUS
    JESUS – SACRIFICIAL LOVE
    SACRIFICE
Give up something of value or importance for the sake of other considerations.
    John 15: 12-13
12 This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you.
13 There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
    THE COST OF JESUS SACRIFICE
    FALSE ACCUSATIONS
    Mark 15:2-5
2 Pilate asked Jesus, “Are you the king of the Jews?” Jesus replied, “You have said it.” 3 Then the leading priests kept accusing him of many crimes, 4 and Pilate asked him, “Aren’t you going to answer all these charges they are bringing against you?” 5 But Jesus said nothing, much to Pilate’s surprise.
    REJECTION
    Mark 15:11
11 But at this point the leading priests stirred up the crowd to demand the release of Barabbas instead of Jesus.
    BEATING
    Mark 15:15b
15b He ordered Jesus flogged with a lead-tipped whip, then turned him over to the Roman soldiers to be crucified.
    HUMILIATION
    Mark 15:20
20 When they were finally tired of mocking him, they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes on him again. Then they led him away to be crucified.
    SEPARATION
    Mark 15:34
34 Then at three o’clock Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God my God, why have you abandoned me?”
    DEATH
    Mark 15:37
37 Then Jesus uttered another loud cry and breathed his last.

    Better Together: Relationships
    1 Corinthians 13:4-7
4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

    Key Scriptures: Matthew 20:20-28, 1 John 3:16-18, Luke 6:38
We all have a part to play
Then the mother of James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Jesus with her sons. She knelt respectfully to ask a favor. “What is your request?” he asked.
She replied, “In your Kingdom, please let my two sons sit in places of honor next to you, one on your right and the other on your left.”
But Jesus answered by saying to them, “You don’t know what you are asking! Are you able to drink from the bitter cup of suffering I am about to drink?”
“Oh yes,” they replied, “we are able!”
When the ten other disciples heard what James and John had asked, they were indignant. But Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
    Matthew 20:20-22, 24-28
    Saved people serve people
We are all able to serve
We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters. If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person?
Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.
    1 John 3:16-18
    Be the somebody else
Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn others, or it will all come back against you. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven. Give, and you will receive it. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back
    Luke 6:38
We can show Jesus to others much louder than we speak him to them

    WHAT IS DISCIPLESHIP?
It seems like everyone has a different definition
    What does it involve?
What does a disciple look like?
WHAT WOULD YOU WRITE TO THOSE YOU LOVE, IF IT WAS YOUR LAST LETTER?
    Read: 2 Timothy 2:1-7 (NLT)
Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus. 2 You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.
3 Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them. 5 And athletes cannot win the prize unless they follow the rules.6 And hardworking farmers should be the first to enjoy the fruit of their labor.7 Think about what I am saying. The Lord will help you understand all these things.
Vs. 1 “Timothy, my dear son”
    “Be Strong”
    (pic of Malachi)
    Vs. 2 “You Have Heard”
    “Teach to trustworthy people”
    “Who will…pass them on”
    Vs. 3 “Suffer Suffering”
    “Good Soldier”
    Vs. 4 “Tied Up”
    Hebrews 12:1-2a (NLT)
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith
    Vs. 5 “Follow the Rules”
    1 Cor 11:1 (NASB)
“Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.”
    Vs. 6 “Hard Working”
Vs. 7 “Think about what I am saying”
    Pictures of Richard (In dropbox)
    1 Corinthians 3:6 (NLT)
I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow.
    SO, WHAT IS DISCIPLESHIP?
    Its doing life together
    Intimate and personal
Are you FAT?… Faithful, Available, and Teachable

WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT WORK
    Work is ordained by God.
    Genesis 1:28
Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.”
turn to the ground from which you were made. For you were made from dust, and to dust will return.
    Work is not punishment.
    Ecclesiastes 2:24-25
So, I decided there is nothing better than to enjoy food and drink and to find satisfaction in work. Then I realized that these pleasures are from the hand of God.
    Work calls for obedience.
    Colossians 3:22
Let every employee listen well and follow the instructions of their employer, not just when their employers are watching, and not in pretense, but faithful in all things. For we are to live our lives with pure hearts in the constant awe and wonder of our Lord God.
Work should be done with excellence.
    Ephesians 6:6-7
Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. As servants of Christ, do the will God with all your heart. Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.
    Work is honorable.
    1 Corinthians 10:31
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
    Work provides opportunity for witness.
    Matthew 5:16
In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
    3 REASONS WHY WE WORK
    To provide resources.
    To provide quality of life.
    To serve God.
