The way you tell a story can emphasize the purpose of your story. The Apostle John starts his story about the life of Jesus from the beginning...the beginning of time. Jesus was there; he created all things–including time! The beginning of John’s gospel wastes no time focusing on Jesus’ divinity. John wants us to know and believe that Jesus is God!

Life is mysterious and hard. Ecclesiastes helps us avoid the pitfalls of living only for this life OR living only for the life to come in a monk-like fashion. The Preacher says we should live in the fear of the Lord and keep his commandments trusting him with our lives and the life to come.

A redeemed people are a singing people. Why do God's people sing?

Work is not part of the curse but creation. Work is a gift and it is good. What's good about it?

As Solomon prepares to succeed his father David as king, the Lord visits him and tells Solomon to ask for whatever he wants. What would you ask for if you were in Solomon's position? Solomon's request may surprise us and provides us with a great lesson in prayer and wisdom.

The greatest thing the LORD can provide for us is himself!

David says because the LORD is his shepherd, he has no lack. The rest of the Psalm shows us what the Lord provides his people as their shepherd.

Psalm 23

People are sheep. We are always being led by someone or something. No one can be the shepherd that the LORD is to his people. Who is your shepherd?

God comforts us in our affliction. He is the father of mercies and God of all comfort. He comforts us so that we might also comfort others in their affliction with the comfort which we have received from God.

Performing CPR on dry bones is a pointless, and a rather strange, endeavor. That is unless you are God. We learn in today's devotionable that just as God can restore dry bones to life, he can also restore those who are spiritually dead and bring them to a place of vibrant faith.
