Today, we are going to study Jehovah-Rophe – The Lord that Heals. As we learned last week, Jehovah is from the Hebrew word Havah and is translated as “The Existing One” or “Lord”, which denotes a God who consistently reveals Himself. Rophe, in Hebrew, means to mend (by stitching), to restore, to heal or to make healthful or whole. Jehovah Rophe is translated as Jehovah or Lord who heals. He is the great physician that heals physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Jehovah-Rophe is first found in Exodus 15:26.

Life Applications from Today's Study

1. Are you in need of spiritual, physical, or emotional healing? Have you asked Jehovah-Rophe for healing? Are you listening to Him for His answer?

2. Do you have a hard time with believing that Jehovah-Rophe can actually heal you? Mark 9:17-25. Demon-Possessed Son is Delivered. The father of this demon-possessed son cried out to Jesus, Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”

3. When is the last time you confessed and prayed as James 5:13-16 suggests?

Today, we are going to study Jehovah-Nissi – The Lord our Banner. Jehovah-Nissi only occurs once in the Old Testament, Exodus 17:15. Jehovah from the Hebrew word Havah is translated as “The Existing One” or “Lord”, which denotes a God who consistently reveals Himself. Nissi from the Hebrew word Nes means “banner” or “pole with insignia attached.”

When opposing nations or groups go against each other in battle, a banner or flag on a pole with an insignia is flown at each of their respective front lines. Not only is this for a focal point for the troops, but it gives them encouragement and a feeling of hope. Today, you will see how Jehovah-Nissi is our banner of encouragement and He gives us hope and a focal point.

Life Application

1. Who or what are the Amalekites in your life and what do you need to do about them?

2. Do you have an Aaron and Hur in your life? If not, ask God for an Aaron and Hur.

3.  In what ways can you commemorate the “victories” Jehovah Nissi has given you in your life so that you can look back and be reminded of His faithfulness to provide victory in His way and His timing?

Today, we are going to study Jehovah – Lord. It occurs 6,519 times in the Old Testament. It is used more than any other name of God. Hebrew YHWH, traditionally Jehovah.

Today, we are going to study Alpha and Omega – The First and The Last. Alpha and Omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. Alpha is defined as something that is first and figuratively described as superiority or dominance. Omega is defined as the final part or the end.

Who is Alpha and Omega and What Can We Expect?

Alpha and Omega are the expression of God and Christ’s eternity. Alpha and Omega encompasses all the other names of God – Elohim (God), El Shaddai (God Almighty), El Roi (The God Who Sees), El Elyon (The Most High God), El Olam (The Everlasting God), Qanna (The Jealous God), Adonai (Lord Master), ASAH (Maker). And these are just the ones we have studied so far. There are many other names.

Our human concept of beginning (the point at which something begins) and ending (final part of something) is different from Alpha and Omega described in the Word of God. When you think of the word beginning, what comes to your mind? Do you think about the beginning of your day, week, month, or year? Do you think about the beginning of your life or a new chapter of your life? What about the beginning of projects or life events?

What about the word ending? Do you think about the end of your day, week, month, or year? Do you think about the end results of your projects or the end of a major crisis in your life? Or have you ever thought about the end of your life or the things you need to do in order to be prepared for the end of your life?

Today, we are going to study the Hebrew name ASAH (aw-saw’) - Maker.

ASAH is a Hebrew word which means “to make, do or fashion”. The word is used over 2000 times in the Old Testament in various forms. For today’s purpose, I am only going to focus on ASAH, our Maker. You are not an accident. You are divinely and uniquely made and designed by God for His plan and purpose.

1. We are called to worship ASAH, our Maker. How will you worship your Maker this week?

2. We are called be pliable in the hand of ASAH, our Maker. Are you remaining pliable in the hand of ASAH? If not, what do you need to do in this week in order to remain as clay in the potter’s hands?

Today, we are going to study Adonai (ad-o-noy’) – Lord, Master.

Adonai occurs 434 times in the Old Testament. Adonai is first used in Genesis 15:2. Adonai is used heavily in Isaiah, 200 times in Ezekiel, 11 times in Daniel Chapter 9. Adonai means “Lord” or “master,” showing God has sovereignty over us. What I hope you see at the end of our time together today is that Adonai is more than a name. Adonai is really about a relationship. A relationship between God and us.

Today, we are going to study Qanna, the Jealous God. (kan-naw’)

Qanna appears 6 times in the Old Testament and it is first used in Exodus 20:5. “Qanna is translated as jealous, zealous, or envy. The fundamental meaning relates to a marriage relationship. God is depicted as Israel’s husband; He is a jealous God, wanting all our praise for Himself and no one else.”

Today, we are going to study El Olam, the Everlasting God. “El” is translated as “God” and Olam means forever, eternity, or everlasting. Combining the two, El Olam can be translated as “The Eternal God.” Other translations are the Everlasting God, the God of Eternity, the God of the Universe, and the God of Ancient Days. El Olam is first used in Genesis 21:33.

Life Application

1. How is El Olam showing you today that He is your Everlasting Father?

2. How is El Olam showing you today His Lovingkindness?

3. Do you need to make some adjustments on how you approach El Olam?

Today, we are going to study El Elyon, The Most High God. We can find El Elyon 28 times in the Old Testament and is first used in Genesis 14:18. El Elyon can be found 19 times in the Book of Psalms. El as we have learned is translated as “God”. Elyon means Most High and expresses the extreme sovereignty and majesty of God and His highest preeminence. Together, El Elyon is translated as the most exalted or most high God.

According to the original Hebrew translation, Roi means shepherd, or as seeing, looking, or gazing. The name El Roi can only be found once in the bible. However, you will soon discover that there are plenty of scriptures to confirm that God is a God that sees.
