Different Ways to Deal with Fallen People
John 7:53—8:1-11
Introduction:
(1)Three times in the Bible the handwriting of God is mentioned:
• Exodus 20—LAW
• Daniel 5—JUDGMENT
• John 8—LOVE
(2)John 8 gives us “four different ways to deal with sinners.”
I.The Way of Moses—CONDEMN Them—8:5 (See Lev. 20:10)
II.The Way of Rome—IGNORE Them—8:6 (Implied)
III.The Way of the Pharisees—EMBARRASS Them—8:3-4
In Leviticus 20:10, in the event of adultery, BOTH were to be stoned—
adultery is never a singular act.
• “brought” = dragged
• “caught” = trapped, ensnared
A.Conniving to Jesus—tried to ensnare him
B.Conniving to the Woman—not remotely interested in morality or restoration
IV.The Way of Jesus—FORGIVE Them—8:11
A.How Jesus dealt with the Pharisees—8:6-7
1.Calmly—8:6
2.Candidly—8:7
B.How Jesus dealt with the woman—8:8-11
1.Compassionately—8:10
2.Candidly—8:11a—Did not condone or condemn
3.Confidently—8:11b—Left her on the edge of “choice”
Conclusion: The “Way of Jesus” helps fallen people see they not only have a PAST but they can have a FUTURE. As followers of Christ we must strive to convey this same message.
