Challenging today’s accepted “wisdom,” Catholic scientist Gerard Verschuuren, Ph.D., in his book, A Catholic Scientist Proves God Exists (Sophia Institute Press), sets out to demonstrates that the question of whether God exists is not one science can answer. Indeed, that would be like expecting a microscope to reveal the square root of sixteen!
Verschuuren begins by explaining the five famous medieval proofs for the existence of God — based on reason alone — that have survived despite nearly a thousand years of efforts to refute them. With his wise help, you’ll come to see that just as reason gives us access to the existence of numbers, so it is reason that gives us access to the existence of God. In fact, when we use our reason to investigate the existence of God, we encounter proofs that are more powerful, by far, than any that science could ever provide.
Yes, Verschuuren is a Catholic; but he’s also a long-standing scientist, schooled in using reason alone to draw forth from evidence the proofs to which it necessarily leads. Among the many truths that Verschuuren evinces here by reason alone are the following:

It is said that “breaking news” is the first draft of history. “We Interrupt This Broadcast: Before it was history, it was news” marks the first time the stories of these historical events are told exclusively by the broadcasters and TV journalists whose work created those drafts in real-time.
Created by Joe Garner, author of the eponymous New York Times Best-Selling Book, this 12-episode audio docuseries launching July 20, 2021, celebrates the crucial role broadcast journalism has played throughout our nation’s history.
Hosted by legendary broadcaster Bill Kurtis and narrated by NBC’s Brian Williams, each episode unfolds with the brisk pace and tone of a thriller while presenting an in-depth look into the reporting of, and reaction to, events that have since become benchmarks in history. The contributors are a “Who’s who” in broadcast journalism. Along with the thrilling broadcast news audio, exclusive, rare, and never-before-heard recordings are woven throughout each episode.
Speaking of the new podcast, Williams told our own host: "This is nothing short of American history in audio form."
The docuseries, produced by i4 Media Ventures, LLC, will be presented over six seasons. Each season is comprised of 12 episodes, all published simultaneously: 10 episodes in each season are based on events that occurred in the broadcast era and two are based on seminal moments that occurred in early American history (such as the passing of the 19thAmendment) and dramatized as if reported by broadcast journalists. Each episode concludes with the journalists offering candid and critical analysis on how they and their fellow reporters covered the event.
“None of us lucky enough to have these anchor jobs got into the business for the perfectly average Tuesday in August,” notes Williams, who is an executive producer as well as narrator of the podcast. “While I have nothing against Tuesdays in August, we measure ourselves, our talent and ability, by how we work without a net. The rush to the studio and the need to describe and explain breaking news in real time. Calm becomes a critical commodity -- awareness of how the world works helps, and that includes a working knowledge of politics, history, aircraft, weapons, geography and about a dozen other subjects.”
“Not only do people remember where they were when a momentous story broke,” Williams added, “They remember who reported it to them, and who talked them through it.”
Kurtis, an acclaimed documentarian, 30-year veteran of CBS News, and host of the podcast, said, “I have spent a good deal of career reporting and analyzing these world-changing events and I am pleased to participate in this project, which amplifies and hones in on the very important work that broadcast journalists do to ensure the news is reported quickly, accurately, and fairly.”
Season One features the following landmark moments in American and world history from the Hindenburg disaster and D-Day Invasion to the assassination of John F Kennedy and the tragedy of Columbine and 9/11.
Americans have always had a fascination with crime. Movies and books about gangsters and the mafia have made millions. Today, Americans are fascinated by a new sort of criminal - drug cartels. Books and movies about drug cartels dominate the book shelves and airwaves. Americans are drawn to this underworld that has replaced the mafia as America’s crime fascination. What is so intriguing about drug cartels? At a time when drug overdose deaths, fueled by the sale of illegal substances, have soared in America, the question is: How have cartels replaced other criminal organizations?
Corey Cepeda, author of the bestselling and critically acclaimed book, La Familia: Loose Ends, says what fascinates so many people about drug cartels is how ordinary people, next-door neighbors can be active members of it without anyone knowing it. He says the whole culture of the cartels operating in the open is intriguing to Americans unlike the flashy mafia and gangsters of the past. And in this episode he offers listeners an inside look of how they operate, not just in the distribution of drugs across national borders, but in the oil and hospitality sectors too. It is a massive, multi-billion criminal enterprise.
In his first book of a new five-part series, "La Familia: Loose Ends" introduces readers to a ruling family reigning terror over Mexico - the De Los Santos cartel dynasty. "Filled with political intrigue, murder and family drama, the twists and turns take readers on a page-turning ride they're not soon to forget," writes Chloe Rabinowitz.
"La Familia: Loose Ends" starts with the attempted murder of the country's most powerful drug lord, Vicente De Los Santos, who also happens to be the nation's ruler. It all happens at his 10-year old daughter's birthday party and in the wake, innocent children and women are killed, quickly leading to a national Armageddon. Severely injured, Vicente, "The Boss of Bosses," is out for blood. His eldest son, Ignacio, joins his avenging father while he carries secrets of his own and Ignacio's brother, Santino, returns home to help his family, but becomes suspect that something deeply sinister is afoot.

As New York City residents seek to avert their City’s decline and prepare for a mayoral election, Matthew Taylor’s timely new documentary series This Is New York has now been featured in several prominent news stories, including RealClearPolitics, Sinclair Broadcasting, and the New York Post. This is New York portrays the everyday struggles of New York City residents and can be streamed for free on YouTube. The series has candid interviews with residents about the city’s worsening problems from soaring crime and random assaults to stabbings and shocking shootings that have caused great human destruction, and badly damaged the struggling restaurant and tourism industries.
The series features stories from all five of the City’s boroughs and interviews with residents on life inside a metropolis beset with problems while recovering from COVID-19. Rampant crime has gripped the already struggling city and its overworked police force. Residents are afraid to go out for dinner, parents are terrified to send their children into the City alone to attend failing public schools, and many affluent New Yorkers have fled altogether to take their business to safer locales. The decline in quality of life is told directly by those who experience it daily, along with officials like former Chancellor of Schools Joel Klein and former Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.
“The people who speak the best are the citizens themselves,” Taylor told New York Post. Taylor, who has lived in New York for many years, wants to use his skills as a filmmaker to capture the voices of “forgotten New Yorkers” to help stop the City’s decline. “These are strictly documentaries about the state of the city after the pandemic and about the universal topics that matter to everybody. Nobody wants to get pushed in front of the subway or mugged.”

The pandemic has dramatically focused our attention on health and wellness allowing us all to reflect on what’s truly important in life: family, physical health, and mental wellness. As America emerges from the pandemic, her workforce will struggle to find a new normal. Working remotely has shifted the paradigm and blurred the lines separating work and personal life. The stress of always-on availability is insidious. According to Allen, in order for businesses to be successful and competitive in the post-pandemic age, they need to double down on mental health initiatives and have proactive measures in place to help employees adjust and prevent burnout.
