Do you live in a rural location like me? I’ll bet you struggle to get reliable internet, don’t you? I have finally found an inexpensive service. It’s called Visible which is owned by Verizon and uses their network. They only have one plan and it is unlimited everything for $40 a month! If you join the Digicommcafe Party Party Group that drops to $25/month! Request a line at https://visible.com and use my referral code: 3n37nt. Once you have your SIM card installed and registered, go to https://visible.com/p/DigiCommCafe and join our party to drop to $25 a month for unlimited everything! We are very happy with the service.

What do hams do outside of enjoying amateur radio communications?

In this podcast I would like to introduce you to our little country church family, Lakeland Baptist Church of Omaha, Arkansas.

Being as the DigiCommCafre (Digital Communications Christian Amateur Fellowship) is located at the intersection of Faith and Technology, I share a faith episode from time to time. It helps us to stay balanced in our ham activities and keep our priorities straight. Please use our voice message feature to leave your comments and words of encouragement which I will be happy to share with our church family.

On this beautiful cool sunny day after church I used my Baofeng UV-82 and whip antenna to listen to and attempted to work someone on this pass without success. Maybe you will hear yourself. Thanks for listening. Please leave me your voice comments. I may use them in this podcast after the fact.

Satellite CafeCast on October 11, 2019 for AO-92 @ 11:51pm

It was a chilly 40 degree moonlit night tonight with temperatures dropping below freezing before morning. I thought just maybe I'd have a good chance at making a contact while most hams would be in bed. Sure enough, I had success and made a contact with Larry Jones, NN4H of Nancy, Kentucky. Thanks, Larry. I have a question for you, though. How did you know my name?  Leave me a voice message on anchor for me and I will add your comments to my next CafeCast.

This amateur radio satellite operating is quite addicting. I hope ya'll are enjoying it as much as I am.  Good night till my next Radio On The Rocks CafeCast from the DigiCommCafe.

2-in-1 Satellite CafeCast for 10-09-19

Today I have combined two satellite passes into one CafeCast. AO-92, was a bit disappointing with little activity and seemed like some solar interference of some sort. The most active ham on this pass was Perry Yantis, WB8OTH of Ohio. He was struggling in the beginning trying to get any response. AO-91 occured just over a hour later with lots of activity during the entire pass. I heard several familiar calls including Michael, K9EI down in Texas. I hope you are all enjoying these satellite CafeCasts. Please leave your voice comments in my message link here. https://anchor.fm/radio-on-the-rocks-cafecast/message

Satellite CafeCast of AO-91 for October 8, 2019 at 12:38 pm CST

This was a good pass with lots of contacts being made on AO-91 which had an elevation of 70 degrees going from South to North. I hope you heard yourself. Did you take notes? How many unique callsigns do you hear on this pass? Was one of them you?

Amateur Satellites are addicting. I recently built my own VHF Satellite Yagi and am having a ball listening to all the hams working each other on AO-91 and AO-92. I make it a point to record each pass and then go back and listen to capture all the different callsigns I hear. Did you know that there are many young people doing satellites, too? Come and meet some of them at the YACHT Net on the YACHT Echolink Conference Server and the DigiCommCafe Multimode Communications Network every Saturday night at 7:00 pm. We have some very impressive young hams checking in. Meet one of them who just happened by as I was recording this CafeCast!
