  • 1.13: I'll Tell You My Pathway Out of This Horror

We love talking music with our kids. We influence them and, even better, they influence us. We talk about why we knew the words to every 90s country song that came on at the BBQ place and the two stop process that broke that horrible lapse in judgment. That leads us into a talk about Tyler the Creator, Drake, booing and then you know how it goes...we talk about everything else.

Homemade ranch dressing, Saturday Night Live when you were in high school, mercurial swordfish, tilapia feedback, soy lecithin, how Joe fries, the outside of the grocery store, Jester King and La Vie en Rose, kimchi, squash blossoms, making love to cast iron, Asian soup, being hipsters, vinyl records at dinner, getting ‘OK, Boomer’-ed, creamy bratwurst and cucumber salad, music memories, Joe’s ‘death row’ meal and Milli Vanilli.

This week's Table Topics question: Would you rather know how to fly a plane, drive a race car, or rock climb?

We love food festivals and our local Greek Festival is one of the stars of the show this week providing Aislynn’s favorite meal of the week. That leads us into a talk about gyros, doner kebabs, our Food Journey lunch group and then you know how it goes...we talk about everything else.

Thick Mahi, pussyfooting, prohibition, al pastor, shawarma, frozen hamburger discs, mussels off a truck, municipal composting, family-style Chinese dinners, toxic methane, chicken nuggets, a soy/grain American diet and so much more.

  • 1.11: Our Life Is An Open Book Now

Joe always says, “We’ve eaten 21 meals since the last time we got together,” but is that accurate? We start about who skips which meals and quickly move into a delicious 4-course meal at our favorite local restaurant.

This we talk about getting donged, the joys of hyperthyroidism, raising backyard chickens and what we do with the eggs, Farm TV, Hurricane Harvey, what the best restaurateurs do (as opposed to chain restaurants), eating fish with a spoon, GROW Local South Texas, spontaneous meals with friends, food commodities, making your own fun wherever you live and scratching environmental itches that don’t get scratched.

Plus: How’s Joe coming along with his pinto beans?

This week's dinner talk question: If you could volunteer your time to help one charity, which would you choose?

  • 1.10: We Have to Know! Chicken Wings or Chili Dogs?!

Chili dogs, chicken wings, parties, politics and Fleabag. This Dinner Table Talk is a 100-course meal.

Exactly one year after Aislynn’s mayoral campaign, we reflect on the ins and outs of that election while saving room to talk about a launch plan, how we find podcasts, wonderful invitations, asking friends for help, the ingredients of a hot dog, future guests, age gaps, the birth of the chicken wing, stimulating discussions about pop culture, personal paparazzi, the partisan stew that makes Joe’s blood boil and how to win a local election. Pull up a chair; there’s a lot to talk about.

  • 1.9: She's Going to Hate You For Telling This Story

Is there any more comfortable situation than talking S-E-X with your kids? Well, it came up this week and we tell you all about it.

We talk about shitterdams, left hand/right hand etiquette, the Breakfast Taco Capital of the World, a Joe’s Treatise on Balding recap, man boobs, Aislynn’s irrational hatred of classic Italian sauces, Homecoming angst, late-night teen parties, the female equivalent of Axe Body Spray, homemade brisket and bbq sauce, Joe’s fear of beans...and then the sex talk. Joe gives the girls the teenage boy playbook. Maybe uncomfortable, but essential parenting responsibility.

Bonus: A nearby open window distracts Aislynn...twice!
