Episode 3: We All Have Limits. Don't Let Them Define You!

What if the things we see as our limitations aren't the things that define us?

We all have limits. Some are physical, some are emotional, and others are simply part of everyday life. But should they decide who we are or what we can achieve?

In this episode of Disability Is My Strength – The Podcast, I'm talking about why I chose the name Disability Is My Strength and what those words really mean to me.

I've lived with cerebral palsy all my life. Of course, it brings challenges, and I'm certainly not going to pretend otherwise!

But I've never believed that having a disability should define everything about me.

I'm Vicki first and foremost, and my disability is just one part of my story.

We all have things we can't do, but what about all the things we CAN do?

That's what I want us to think about.

This isn't about pretending limitations don't exist or telling everyone they can achieve absolutely anything. It's about recognising our strengths, finding our own way and not allowing one part of our lives to define the whole of who we are.

So, grab a cuppa and join me for an honest chat about disability, limitations and why there's always more to a person than meets the eye.

    Because we all have limits.

But they don't have to define us!

  • Episode 2: You Think You Know Me? Think Again!

Episode 2: You Think You Know Me? Think Again!

How much can you really tell about someone just by looking at them?

We all make assumptions, sometimes without even realising it. But what happens when those assumptions stop us from seeing the person right in front of us?

In this episode of Disability Is My Strength – The Podcast, I'm talking about assumptions, particularly those surrounding disability, and why there's always more to someone than meets the eye.

Having cerebral palsy is part of who I am, but it certainly isn't the whole story!

I'm a wife to my brilliant husband Steve, a business owner, an author, a speaker and now a podcaster. And believe me, I don't do things by halves!

We'll explore why we make assumptions, how they can affect people and why taking a moment to get to know someone can make all the difference.

    In this episode:

Why we shouldn't judge someone's abilities by their appearance.

How assumptions can influence the way we treat others.

Why having a disability doesn't tell you everything about a person.

The importance of looking beyond labels.

Why a little curiosity and an open mind can go a long way.

    Because here's the thing...

You might think you know someone, but do you really?

🎧 Grab a cuppa, get comfortable and join me for an honest conversation. You might just find yourself looking at things a little differently.

If you enjoy the episode, please follow, share and leave a review. It really does help a new podcast grow.

  • Episode 1: So, Who Is Vicki Wilson?
Episode 1: So, Who Is Vicki Wilson?

Who am I, and why have I started a podcast called Disability Is My Strength? In this first episode, I’m taking you back to where it all began, including the little girl who simply wanted to fit in and be one of the gang. I share some of the journey that took me from school and university, through 20 years at HMRC, to redundancy, starting Vicki Admin Fairy®, becoming an author and speaker, and eventually creating this podcast. Because one thing I’ve learnt along the way is that different does not mean less.

In this episode, I talk about:

    • Growing up with cerebral palsy and why, as a little girl, I didn't see myself as a diagnosis or a wheelchair. I was simply Vicki.
    • School, university and building a career, including spending 20 years working for HMRC.
    • How redundancy unexpectedly led me into self-employment and the creation of Vicki Admin Fairy®.
    • Becoming an author and speaker, and why I decided to write my memoir, Disability Is My Strength.
    • Why I’ve created this podcast and why I want it to challenge assumptions about disability, ambition and what people are capable of.

This podcast isn’t about pretending disability doesn’t bring challenges. It’s about looking beyond the labels, expectations and assumptions people can place on us.

And as for some of the stories behind Disability Is My Strength? I’m not giving everything away here. You’ll have to read the book for those. 😉
