Interceding is hard work. As Joshua went into battle, Moses went to the top of the hill, raised the rod of God, and interceded for Joshua.

Interceding was perhaps the hardest thing Moses had to do. This was a man's heart reaching out to God's heart on behalf of someone who was virtually a son to him.

God's great plan is the transfer of life from one believer to another.

Life is transferred in many ways, but this lesson looks specifically at the transfer of life through example. It is what Jesus did for those three years when He gave His life to twelve men.

The things the disciples had seen and heard became the message they had to declare. So it was with Moses and Joshua. Joshua had walked hand-in-hand with this mighty man of God for years. He encountered the same challenges, endured the same persecution, and enjoyed the same victories. He saw and heard how Moses responded.

We too are like Moses, living examples to someone in the Christian life. They are examining the Christian faith in light of our lives. What will they have seen and heard?

God always wants to bless us, but sometimes His blessing comes through the word "no".

Moses learned that the hard way as he disobeyed what God told him to do. It did not mean God did not love Moses, but He is also a just God and makes Moses pay the consequences for violating His command.

Can we begin praising God for the "no" as well as the "yes" in answer to our prayers?

The answer "no" may well be the most beautiful answered prayer ever heard.

This is the secret of spiritual warfare. The key to victory is staying at God's feet and listening to God's Word.

Spiritual warfare is the result of a relationship, and the result will always be victory, either here or in glory.

What is in our hearts? God knows, but He wants us to know, too.

Moses reiterates to the people how God had kept them the forty years in the wilderness. He tested them and showed them what was in their heart, so they would learn to rely completely upon God.

There was no better schoolroom than the wilderness, and there was no better teacher than God. There were times when He had to take away the very things the people didn't think they could do without, in order to teach them that physical blessings have no eternal value except in how unselfishly they are given away.

In the realm of the Spirit, we lack nothing. Everything else is passing away.

The Israelites had decided to go fight the giants in the land, even though God had clearly said "I am not among you". They presumed that since they had admitted their sins, that God would fight for them. They were now going to do in the flesh what God had offered to do supernaturally in the Spirit.

In this lesson, we are going to take a closer look at the principles of presumption that caused defeat for the Israelites and also give ourselves a test to see how much we presume upon God.

God is the only one who can defeat the enemy.

We live in a society that teaches from kindergarten and up that we are the ones who can. God had clearly told Israel not to go and fight because, "I am not among you." He could have defeated all the giants, but because of Israel's rebellion, He chose to withdraw. The Israelites then tried to defeat the enemy in their own strength.

What happens when we move into battle without God? We do it every day. We try harder, and we become more frustrated. There is a solution.

Moses gives the Israelites a history lesson concerning the rebellion of their fathers in refusing to go in and possess the land the Lord had given them.

Why does God bring giants in our paths?

We want the land, but we don't want to have to fight giants to get it. We have fallen into an ocean of forgetfulness and don't remember God's leading and love through similar lands of giants.

The Israelites had wandered in the wilderness for forty years.

Now, God was going to give them another chance. All they had to do was trust that the Lord had given them this land and then go up and possess it.

What was their response? They hesitated. They became discouraged. They were at the end of their journey and still did not possess the land.
