Overall a cute little read.

Full figured women meets rugged cowboy on a dude ranch. This story involved two characters Danielle and Owen who are total opposites. They say opposites attract and they were not kidding with this one.

Danielle was sent to her parents dude ranch to learn some responsibility and grow up. Let's just say she got more than she bargained for with Owen, her father foreman son. This story had spanking, crying, temper tantrums', and who lot more that will make you either laugh or want to hit the female character yourself.

This is NOT a novel

This is a collection of short stories, some have the same characters but pretty much it is just random acts of sex under various conditions. It is not at ALL like the blurb, it is not one story about a woman who calls a number and winds up working for the "the number". There are a couple of stories about that intermixed with random fantasies of totally unrelated people.

I NEVER get short stories; I want an 8 hour book because I want to hear an 8 hour story, so basically the blurb lied about what this was.

To further exasperate me the narration is HORRIBLE! If you can imagine the chipper voice of Angela Lansbury in thick English accent describing things you NEVER want to hear her describe well...you have a good idea of what is going on in the book. Also, the male voices are chipper English accents, not smooth at all, almost like it was a stage actor yelling for an audience to hear...ICK! Also, there are numerous British references and slang, and not just knickers for panties but a lot of references that I had never heard of...guess it's a cultural thing.

Could not have been more disappointed in this bookturned it off half way through, couldn't deal with it anymore.

An early novel, with flaws, but shows the author's developing style

Lawrence Block wrote this book when he was 21, in the summer after his junior year in college. He explains in his afterward to the e-book edition how he set this novel in a fictionalized version of his alma mater, Antioch College. Character surnames are taken from school dormitories. One of the main characters has a job as school newspaper editor, which was also Block's job for one semester. In fact, this book has become a cult classic on the Antioch campus. According to IMDB, it was the basis for a 45-minute student film called Antioch Adventures.

The book itself has serious flaws--some inane plot twists, and over-reliance on sex scenes chock full of silly metaphors (perhaps they might have been considered graphic by the standards of the day, but they seem very PG13 now). But the book does tackle themes that would have been very controversial back in 1960, such as living as a closet homosexual and abortion.

Even at the age of 21, Block certainly displayed a talent for sketching characters and driving a plot forward (even when it when stretches plausibility). All in all, I have to say I enjoyed it despite myself.

Surprisingly, this was actually the fifth book LB wrote, according to his afterward.

A must for Antiochians from the 1960s

Lawrence Block's classic (and only marginally disguised) story about Antioch and life in "the Gulch" during the late 1950s and 1960s is well worth reading, if only for the memories it will trigger. Anyone who shot pool outside the Record office, or hung out on the stoop, or danced in Red Square, or hiked in the Glen, or railed about food in the Caf, or partied at Birch, or belonged to Maples, or knew J.D. Dawson / James P. Dixon / Mort Rauh / Mickey McCleery / Irwin Abrams / Walter Anderson / Louis Filler / Meredith Dallas / Clarence Leuba / Ollie Loud and others, or listened to WYSO, or remembers "Murph", owes Mr. Block a massive vote of thanks for authorizing a reprint of this book. Antiochians - do yourselves a big favor and buy it (and for fun, see how many of the dorm hall names you can recognize and place).

quirky but very cute sensuous story

I have always been a fan of K. Matthew as he has a dry and witty way of portraying his heroes, particularly his virgin young heroes...They seem to have tendency to be a little spoilt, entitled and very innocent ...until...someone or in this case "something" has their wicked ways with these virgins who are brimming with passion and curiosity...

K. Matthew also creates these "virgin loving" heroes who are compatible, gentle and certainly very experienced for these virgins....

This short story is about this 18 year old boy who wanted to go to his local town to "celebrate" his 18th birthday at a brothel to loose his virginity....but it is that time of the year when the town's "monsta" comes to collect his virgin sacrifice...guess who this "monsta" picks..and it is not one of those pretty virgin girls..The end is funny too..titter-titter...I am not sure after this, the "monsta" will be called a "monsta" though..heheheheheeee

Ian & the Monster

Sometimes you might want to listen to your parents. Ian wants to become a man and have sex. He is intrigued by the Gabbs annual sacrifice and then finds himself in trouble. Those chosen know they will die after the monster has its way. What will happen to Ian? It is steamy in a strange kind of way. I did get the story as an arc for an honest review.

Interesting and inventive

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you're into the genre, then you'll enjoy this very much. The stories run the gambit from Lesbian to straight to bi. Some bd/sm but all very good and imaginative. I

What other book might you compare Best Women's Erotica 2006 to and why?

There have been several books in the Best Women's Erotica Series, and they all are really very good, I may even say great. When you have an anthology containing anywhere from 20-24 stories, and you find that more than 90% are really good than I feel I got my monies worth.

This is a wonderful series, I find that some men enjoy the series as well. I know I enjoy all erotica, whether it be gay straight, lesbian bd/sm. If it's written well and the narration is good I always enjoy. As I did in this case.
