Even though this is about a vampires this is just sooo cute. Well until the end. It got a little crazy there with the smexing... but the story was just soo cute. Good story... and narration. This is by no means a plot thickening book... This is just a quickie...

A good buy because of the price... save your credit for something with more of a plot.

Sensuous, Yes. Disciples of the Whip, No

The title, unfortunately is a misnomer. There was one spanking in this novel, traditional, with the hand and over the knee and not a single whip. It is the story of a secret society in which the members meet each other and engage in a myriad of sexual ventures. Amidst the beautiful and tantalizing encounters there is an undertone of psychological dominance and submission and that's it. This is a delightful erotic tale but it does not hold a candle to the modern Story of O it claims to be.

I felt the title also is misleading. It started out interesting, but as the meetings continued it was bland. There could've been more details to the society's history, rules, and interactions. I lost interest in the main character and her attitudes. She seemed petulant for having to follow the rules, but very transparent in her interest of the one character. boring and dissatisfying ending

Well-Written Sophisticated Erotica

If you are expecting hardcore S&M you will be severely disappointed, as the title is very misleading; there isn't a single whip or implement to found anywhere in this work - merely a bit of voyeuristic spanking, but if you are looking for literate, well-written, steamy erotica then you have found a small gem...

The heroine Marika embarks on a journey of sexual discovery and "surprise!" finds herself. She does so through plenty of high quality lingerie, an attractive and remote mystery man, a strong element of voyeurism and a number of beautiful sexual partners.

The author builds and holds the tension well, there is a theme of forbidden acts being observed, an actually engaging story line that holds together well, and the participants all end up in a sweaty, satisfied, spent heap at the end.

Lovely. Enjoyed this a lot. Recommended, particularly as a holiday book...

Definitely a collection of erotica worth reading

I disagree completely with the other review posted here; I found many of these stories to be erotic, and would definitely classify this as a collection of erotica. While not into *everything* in it (different people have different tastes) I don't see condemning the entire collection as reasonable merely because some of the stories don't fire on all of one's pistons. Just my $0.02.

Not exactly erotica

This collection is well written, but hardly arousing... more depressing or disturbing than erotic. The criteria for eroticism seems to simply be "it includes mention of sex or genitalia". A story about an unhappy, unenjoyable encounter with someone just doesn't do it for me. Sure, it's about sex, but it's hardly sexy. I'd pass on this one if I were you- try Best Women's Erotica 2009 instead- much sexier.

NOT my cup of tea

I was certainly in for a surprise when I started listening to this "whatever"... I didn't realize that this is supposedly an erotic piece. I am 66 years old, and I am NOT a prude, by any means. I am a fan of the Japanese culture, which is what led me to this selection. This thing is just a joke. I don't know what audience this is geared to - men? Young boys? Certainly not women. But since I now own the thing, I tried to listen to it. It actually had me laughing out loud when I was not raising my eyebrows in disbelief at its outright stupidity. Have I completely left the planet? Unbelievable that someone wrote this, but then to have some editor say "OK! This should be published. Stop the presses!" The flimsy premise is so ridiculous -- in the 1890s a man leaves his 15-year-old daughter in a brothel (for her protection) while he flees the country to save his own life.

The only thing worse about this (I hesitate to call it a book) is the narrator. Her flat voice and droning tone eventually made me give up on the book altogether. I can only surmise that it was just as boring for her to read it as it was for me to listen to it. If I actually owned the physical bound version, I would take it out and burn it.

What a disappointment

This book is a major disappointment. The author goes way overboard with her erotic descriptions and senarios, to the point of boredom. It's rare that I don't finish a book but I couldn't force myself to finish this one.

Not steamy

I was hoping this would be another steamy novel like Cain's Reckoning. Nope. I was disappointed. Not many sex scenes although the girl talks about it all the time, barely anything happens. If you're looking for steamy, this isn't it.

Wonderfully Hot & Sexy!

Herotica 6 is the best collection yet! Each story has it's own sizzle, and it's the perfect book for curling up with your lover (or your favorite toy :). I especially liked the stories by Carol Queen and Cecelia Tan (who ALWAYS write terrific tales) and also the offerings from 2 popular Internet erotica writers: Mary Anne Mohanraj (a very sensual wedding night story set in India) and Victoria Claire (a hot phone sex romp that had me lusting for a phone lover of my own).

If you've been wondering how 90s women -- straight, bi, gay, and every combination you can imagine -- keep the spark alive (or if you're wanting to add some heat to your own relationship) read the delicious stories in this book.

What a pleasant surprise to find a compilation of erotic stories that were obviously selected by the editor, Marcy Sheiner, for excellence in erotic lit.

Too many times I have been seduced into buying collections that appeared very suspiciously as an editor pandering to some group of friends or 'wanna be' erotic authors only to find most of the stories were dumb, unrealistic and just plain bad.

Herotica 6 is a collection of 21 short stories that reach across a broad spectrum of eroticism. Although I can't truthfully say I liked EVERY story I can say that they were all written with great attention paid to the sensitivity of the reader allowing us a few private moments to muse and daydream, and, after isn't that what it's all about.

Wow!

I really enjoyed Poppa's Progeny. This is not my usual genre of book. I normally go for sci-fi post apocalyptic stuff but this was an excellent story set in a sci-fi, dystopian type of setting. It was suspenseful and very erotic! I hope Alta Hensley is planning a second book for this. I'd love to know what happens next! Hollie Jackson does an excellent job with the narration !

Purely delicious!

So, I went into this book thinking it was YA dystopia, because the person who recommended it doesn't usually read romance. Partway through, I found myself blushing to the roots of my hair, listening to some pretty explicit sexual stuff out loud on my car stereo!! I nearly drove off the road! I'm no stranger to Erotica, but I usually listen with headphones in a non-distracted atmosphere. That said, this was a really rich story, made better by the talented narrator. I truly enjoyed the intimate byplay between Poppa Costello and Juniper. Well done!

The story is a straight forward forceful boss takes naughty secretary the way she has secretly dreamed. The sex is unimaginative and the story is short. Perhaps a good story for people who want no surprises.
