Charming

Would you consider the audio edition of The Wombles to be better than the print version?

I wouldn't say one version is better than another, but Bernard Cribbins does a great job narrating, and we can listen as a family and enjoy the book together (one of the things we love about audio books in general).

What other book might you compare The Wombles to and why?

The story reminded us of a combination of The Wind in the Willows, The Borrowers, A Bear Called Paddington, the hobbits from Tolkien, and Fraggle Rock

Any additional comments?

We thought this story was just adorable. We did laugh out loud several times. We'd like to hear more of the Wombles books, especially if they're narrated by Bernard Cribbins, for it's nice to have the continuity in a series.

Lovely in a Winnie-the-Poo sort of a way

This is a series of short stories, rather than one long one; perfect for a stop/start car journeys. It's ideal for younger audiences. If you like Winnie-the-Poo, then you'll love this. Lots of furry little creatures getting into scrapes - but nothing too frightening. Also Bernard Cribbins has a wonderful voice. Could listen to him for hours. Even my 7 yr old (Ben 10, Biker Mice from Mars) was enjoying it!

A trip down Memory lane

I have fond memories of watching the Wombles on TV when I was a child and so downloaded it recently for my two sons.

They both LOVED it and the youngest one listens to these stories over and over! Interestingly I also found them some of the original TV programmes, but these haven't held them nearly as well as the audiobooks!

One of the best audiobooks I've downloaded! Well done

It was so lovely to discover all the wonderful Wombleful characters again. The story follows Bungo's first year as a working Womble.

The stories are written so well that even as an adult I enjoyed them all.

Sweet little book, educational

This is a nice little book if doing a topic on London. It focuses on the Tower of London and gives some basic facts about the crown jewels and the tower. It avoids mentioning the London Dungeon and torture. Nice for key stage 1/ kindergarten and possibly lower elementary.

Despicable Me: Without all that Messy Fun Business

This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

It's obviously meant for kids, but it doesn't strike me as a fun kids story, the way the movie was fun. It's like a badly written Cliff Notes version of Despicable Me, you get the gist of what happens (sort of) but all the humor charm and fun are squeezed out. Maybe it's for really, really busy people who don't have time to read or listen to an actual story...

Has Despicable Me: The World's Greatest Villain turned you off from other books in this genre?

Not at all, I have read and loved many children's books. They make a refreshing break from heavier and darker titles.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

I wouldn't say this was a narration of the story, so much as a description of a few of the key plot elements. The narrator was fine as far as it went. It's like listening to someone explain a joke, they might get a basic idea across, but all humor has been lost in translation.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Mainly, disappointment. It crtainly doesn't work as a stand alone story, and if I hadn't seen the movie, this would not make me at all interested in seeing it. So it's not even effective advertisement.

Any additional comments?

And where are the girls? Aside from a passing reference, they were nowhere to be found. Seems to me (and my young nieces) The three orphan girls, Margo, Edith and Agnes were important plotwise, and really the heart of the story, It's kind of like Scrooge wrote this adaptation.

Love it

Author tells story very well I recommend this to young mythologists.I really like how it is told by by a fictional storyteller.

Atticus the Storyteller

This book is amazing. Simon Russell Beale is amazing, he has so much expression in his voice.

the narrator had a lot of expression and experience.

I like the story's because they are exiting and imaginative and I always want to know what will happen next. I am a big fan of Greek myths and atticus is a great example to kids like me. atticus is a great way to get Greek myths to kids.

I enjoy the wide variety of story's and impressionist detail that goes into the story's. clearly a lot of effort goes into writing these marvelous adventures.

I think it's a great idea to create a story tape about a story about a story teller who tells the story's on his journey to a great story telling festival.

this story tape is the perfect entertainment for anybody interested in Greek myths not just kids.

Best book ever!!

Best book ever! I've been reading this book for many many years!! My shin who is now 29 his son who is 8 when he was little and now my granddaughter that is 3 and my girls that are now 22 & 17 they ALL enjoy it!!

A must read!

Such a great story from my childhood. I bought this for a baby shower, knowing it was the mom to be's favorite book growing up. I think it will make it all the more special to read her daughter! Great story, funny plot and a must read!

Five Stars

Love this book for my little one! Mainly because I read it when I was a child, so nostalgic.

The moral of the story is LISTEN CAREFULLY TO OLDER WOMEN.

A fun, well-written fairy tale about a greedy guy and a clever older woman. Older woman are rarely portrayed positively, I say. And now that I'm quickly becoming one, I seek out stories that put us in the best possible light. Strega Nona is a witch, yes, but not a bad witch. She just has magical powers. I love this story, and my daughter does too.

Loved it as a kid, still love it when I'm old.

Pasta, pasta boiling pot! Great memories reading and watching as school plays when I was a kid. Tonight, i decided to share with my kids. Instant success: and the book still makes me hungry, yummy pasta!
