Adorable children's book
I am a substitute teacher for lower elementary grades. I always attempt to bring a super-great read aloud book that the class has not heard. This tale of a little bratty girl who goes into the forest to find a brontosaurus for her birthday gift, is hilarious. It has a catchy little song running through the story, which the kids learned and loved very quickly. It also has an unusual format, with super-short chapters and a choose-your-own ending feature. Because it is longer than most read-alouds, this book with its short mini-chapters, almost creates an introductory chapter book for this age group; . Can be read effectively in two periods, so was very effective for two-day visits. Students couldn't wait to hear the rest of the story the next day. Through use with many classes, I've cut some unnecessary portions of the story which are a little repetitious, enabling it to be read in one read-aloud session. Extremely successful choice. So glad I found it. Good job, Judith Viorst!
The storyline drew her in and the Brontosaurus song has become a fun addition to our silly songs collection
My 4 year old daughter was entranced by this book. The storyline drew her in and the Brontosaurus song has become a fun addition to our silly songs collection. While other reviewers took issue with Lulu's bratty behavior, I disagree. Yes, Lulu behaves poorly, but the book reinforces the message that you ultimately need to learn to accept no for an answer. Her initial poor behavior creates an opportunity to talk about bad vs. good behaviors and reinforce the expectations of your own home. This is a fun book that can be read repeatedly. I highly recommend it.
Charming book series. My daughter enjoys each one.

Funny, well delivered message. Son loved it!
I read the reviews and bought this book for my six year old, who loves reading. I didn't really put too much thought into it because he just wanted a new book for our night-time routine. He started reading it one night, with a little help, but it was too close to bedtime, so we stopped half-way. Well, he didn't wait for me to get up the next morning, he couldn't wait to read the other half, so he continued by himself. I had never seen this kind of impact from a book on a little child. Awesome!
