Title: Fifty Shames of Earl Grey
    Subtitle: A Parody

    Publisher's Summary:
Young, arrogant tycoon Earl Grey seduces the naïve coed Anna Steal with his overpowering good looks and staggering amounts of money, but will she be able to get past his fifty shames, including shopping at Walmart on Saturdays, bondage with handcuffs, and his love of BDSM (Bards, Dragons, Sorcery, and Magick)? Or will his dark secrets and constant smirking drive her over the edge?
    Critic Reviews:
"Erotica is hard. Comedy is harder. If anyone can pull this off, it's Andrew Shaffer." (Paul Bogaards, publicist for E. L. James)

An Amusing Parody - Good if you're a guy
Face it. You're a guy and you want to know what these books are all about but you don't really want to get caught reading the Original. Henceforth, this amusing and charming parody written by Fanny Merkin and wonderfully read/performed by Allyson Ryan. Ryan captures the outrageousness of the story and makes you giggle and the expanded themes ...and sometimes overexpanded themes (I hope) which are in the original "Fifty Shades of Grey".
I found it funny, the storyline a bit thin, but good for a laugh and roll of the eyes.
    Impulse Buy
An impulse buy from years ago, during my 'vitriolic anti-Meyer teen' phase. The premise is a little dull, and the satire is not quite biting, but the narrator herself has enough fun to let you do the same.

    Publisher's Summary:
The hideous Walsingford Hall is home to an odd assortment of covesThe vile premises belong to Sir Buckstone, who is in a little financial difficulty. So for a little monetary help he puts a roof over the heads of people like (among others) Tubby Vanringham, the adoring slave of cold-hearted Miss Whittaker. His brother Joe has fallen head over heels for Sir Bucks daughter, Jane. She, however, only has eyes for Adrian Peake, who has already formed a liaison with the terrifying - but superbly wealthy - Princess Dwornitzchek. Is there no end to the confusion?
    Members Reviews:
All the Wodehouse regulars, but lacking in charm.
Regular readers/listeners of the fiction of P.G. Wodehouse will recognize immediately that 'Summer Moonshine' is populated with all the familiar characters and situations that make his fiction so comfortably predictable. One may cavil that--as one feasts more and more heavily on the banquet of his stories and novels--the formula begins to feel, well, formulaic, but the Master's light touch and brilliantly epigrammatic prose style keep the atmosphere so frothy that it seems churlish to mention that one is once again reading the tale of Young Love torn Asunder by an imperious Aunt, and the dizzying ballet of secondary characters whose fortunes become entwined with those of the principal hero and heroine. Indeed, it is sometimes unclear that there IS a principal hero and heroine--often we are served up an undifferentiated pile of men and women all of whom find the path of love blocked by obstacles which must be overcome. Wodehouse's solutions for extricating the hapless lovers from 'the Stew' run the gamut from the sublime to the ridiculous, but I have, until now, always consumed the stories at a gulp--loving the structure, the language and the humor of the tales.
I say "until now", because--for the first time--"Summer Moonshine" has fallen far short of the mark. Whereas most of the Wodehouse stories have a guardian angel of some sort--Gallahad Threepwood, Jeeves, Lord Ickenham--to guide events and produce, when needed, the deus ex-machina necessary to tie things up nicely, "Moonshine" simply gives us an English country house full of thwarted and mis-matched lovers, and leaves them to their own devices. Waiting as they blunder around, stumbling over their own faulty assumptions and mis-understandings becomes tedious. Moreover, the book is populated with a singularly unpleasant cast of antagonists. While no-one would claim that Alaric, the Duke of Dunstable is a Good Guy, he is such a buffoon that his evil plots do not rankle. Adrian Peake and the Princess Dwarnitzchek, however, are so thoroughly unpleasant that reading of their exploits brought me no pleasure. It would not surprise me to learn that this story--like the play written by one of the characters--is a malicious roman a clef, written by Wodehouse to settle a personal vendetta against a real-life Peake/Dwarnitzchek duo.
If, like me, you are reaching the point where there aren't too many un-read Wodehouse books, then purchase "Summer Moonshine" by all means. Second-rate Wodehouse is still far better than no Wodehouse at all. If, on the other hand, you are relatively new to the Wodehouse canon, I urge you to try something else--any of the 'Jeeves', 'Blandings', 'Mulliner' or 'Ukridge' books will bring you hours of pure pleasure.

  • The Hunger but Mainly Death Games Audiobook by Bratniss Everclean

Title: The Hunger but Mainly Death Games
    Subtitle: A Parody
    Author: Bratniss Everclean
    Narrator: Arielle DeLisle
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 5 hrs and 11 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 05-21-12
    Publisher: Tantor Audio
Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 18 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Humor
    Publisher's Summary:
Mockstrich season has begun. Welcome to The Hunger But Mainly Death Games, the hilarious Hunger Games parody, and the only book brave enough to suggest that Suzanne Collins' epic trilogy was way more about death than food.
Or at least this is what Bratniss Everclean discovers, when she leaves the comforts of Slum 12, Pandumb's garbage dump, to shortsightedly volunteer for a teenage death tournament. But she soon realizes there are fates worse than death...like weirdly having to date her fellow competitor, and lifelong stalker, Pita Malarkey. Okay, okay, it's not worse than DEATH, but it's still pretty annoying.
Still, with help from her agent Oofie Triptrip and her mentor, Hagridmitch, who's pretty sure he can guide Bratniss to victory in the Tri-Wizard Cup, maybe Bratniss will somehow survive this book that she's the narrator of.
The Hunger But Mainly Death Games is the perfect book for anyone who's going through Hunger Games withdrawal and ready for a wonderfully twisted take on their favorite story and characters. This book is also for the unfortunate teens who are trapped in a Hunger Games at this very moment and could really benefit from some levity. We're here for you, assuming you brought your books into the arena.

Huge disappointment!!!! Don't waste your money!!!
What would have made The Hunger but Mainly Death Games better?
This book is horribly written!!!! The original story was ripe for parody, but this version is an absolute WASTE of money!!!
What was most disappointing about Bratniss Evercleans story?
Story??? What story???? This is simply a juvenile attempt at re-writing. This could've been so clever, but no.
    Which scene was your favorite?
    None
What character would you cut from The Hunger but Mainly Death Games?
    The author.
    Any additional comments?
I'm not one to complain, but this book was so badly done, I felt the need to warn potential customers. I'm incredibly disappointed. I wish Audible offered refunds to disgruntled customers. Actually, I want the writer to give me my money back. Audible should rescind payment to the author!
Even my teenage nieces wanted to stop listening, and they're extremely open-minded.
I'm a comedy lover. I can find humor in almost ANYTHING. But not this.
Don't waste the time it takes to download
Would you try another book from Bratniss Everclean and/or Arielle DeLisle?
I would give this Author one more chance but apprehensively
What could Bratniss Everclean have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
The book could have been burned
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
    Nothing perticularly
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
    No way in hell
    Any additional comments?
Why would someone take a book like the Hunger Game and destroy it with a parody like this.
    Good
This audio book is very good I mean I have never read a book on how the hunger games characters are different and a little funnier.
    funny
Its a pretty funny book, but the narrator sounds like a robot, and her accent is hard to understand.

    Now a major motion picture.
Adventure? Yes, more than one! Derring-do? Yes! Storms? Sea monsters? Rival pirates? Of course! Cameos by frequently anachronistic historical figures? You betcha! All that and more.
Not since Moby-Dick.... No, not since Treasure Island.... Actually, not since Jonah and the Whale has there been a group of seafarers to rival The Pirates! and their leader, the greatest ocean-faring hero of all time, the immortal Pirate Captain, who, although he lives for months at a time on the bounding main, somehow manages to keep his beard silky and in good condition.
    Critic Reviews:
"Be it an odd and funny book about a roguish pirate captain, Charles Darwin, and a radioactive elephant ye seek, then seek ye no more!" (Entertainment Weekly)
"Prose Prozac for the nautically inclined.... gently satiric and genuinely funny.... a seaworthy little page-turner.... Rated: Aaarrr!" (The Village Voice)
"Hilarious. Destined to become a classic of pirate comic fiction." (Eric Idle)

    Hilarious
This pairing of the first two novels of the Pirates! series is super funny! Pirate captain with his glorious beard and love of ham and his rag tag crew of pirates get themselves into the most hilarious situations (i.e adventures)! I found myself chuckling out loud at some things they got up to. Thoroughly enjoyable listen even if it does get a little silly. John Lee does an awesome job narrating, Fingers crossed that he does the other books in this series as well!

    Publisher's Summary:
The Atheist's Guide to Christmas is a fantastic listen that was edited by Ariane Sherine, who started the Atheist Bus Campaign in response to an evangelical Christian bus advertisement that gave the URL of a website "telling non-Christians they would spend 'all eternity in torment in hell'."
With the backing of Richard Dawkins, officially supporting the UK's first atheist advertising initiative, Sherine managed to compile a wonderful concoction of the world's most entertaining writers, scientists, comedians, and philosophers to read, perform, and narrate pieces that they had all written for the print book, which was published on October 1, 2009. This audio version is magnificent! It's funny, uplifting, and is read by all of the book's contributors, including Derren Brown, Richard Dawkins, Mitch Benn, Ben Goldacre, Simon Le Bon, Charlie Brooker, and David Baddiel.

    Cant duplicate Brit humor
Great rants from our friends across the pond. As my title implies, the Brits have a patent on very good, dry humor...and is worth the time to bask in it's glory. Recommend reading!
    Great Listen.
This is a collection of stories, each story narrated by the person that wrote it. Some stories are better than others. Great all the way around. and so worth the 6 bucks. Keep em coming.
    I loved it
A series of short stories ranging from good to excellent, but worth it alone just for Richard Dawkins' contribution. His works are always top notch and this time he is also very funny. Hilarious in fact.
    An instant favourite.
    Fun(d) Raiser
This Guide was obviously an adjunct to a fund raising venture to assist the Terry Higgins Trust, a UK HIV charity. It is a collection of 42 (in honour of the late Douglas Adams) short essays read by the respective authors. This makes for an eclectic mix of style, quality and interest. Some were very entertaining listens; funny or thought provoking. I enjoyed Simon Singh's ode to star watching and Simon Le Bon's simple message of festive (secular) cheer, to name but two. Some are a bit dull and some downright annoying. Some are from the famous (Dawkins etal) and some are a bit unknown (at least to Australian audiences). But overall, it's a bit of fun and was for a worthy cause.
PS: I suggest that you listen at Christmas. It makes it more pertinent.
PSS: the last two essayists are repeated, so don't sit through the same thing twice by accident, like I did!
    Surprisingly good
I listened to several audio books from Audible pertaining to atheism and this was the best by far. Educational and funny!

Al Engel had worked his way up to being Nick Rovitos right-hand man, near the top of the syndicate. And this was a delicate job that Rovito had given him: retrieving a very important jacket, loaded with heroin, from the fresh grave of the drug mule who was accidentally buried wearing it.
Rovito ordered Engel to go to the grave in the early hours of the morning, dig up the coffin, and get back the suit - plus kill two birds with one stone (so to speak) and whack the guy who would help with the digging. There was just one problem (at least - just one to begin with): It turned out the grave was empty. Suddenly Engel was the one finding himself in deep.
Busy Body is early Westlake, as he was mastering the genre he would become known for: the comic caper.

    A good parody
The Hunger Pains is a spot on parody. It retells the story of the hunger games pointing out some of the more gapping plot holes and some of the sillier plot points. The story is well put together and the characters of humorous. I would recommend reading the hunger games first as it helps you understand some of the jokes.

The Spanish edition of the number-one New York Times best seller Go the F--k to Sleep, this is a bedtime book for parents who live in the real world, where a few snoozing kitties and cutesy rhymes dont always send a toddler sailing blissfully off to dreamland. Profane, affectionate, and radically honest, California Book Award-winning author Adam Mansbachs verses perfectly capture the familiar - and unspoken - tribulations of putting your little angel down for the night. In the process, they open up a conversation about parenting, granting us permission to admit our frustrations and laugh at their absurdity.
Please note: this audiobook is in Spanish.
