Today I find myself in conversation with Scott Armstrong. Once a commercial banker in the fast-paced financial hubs of the 1980s, Scott found his daily routine entrenched in the gritty details of loan approvals and financial negotiations. Stationed in Toronto, he was the go-to person for local businesses seeking financial support. Over time, Scott realized his enthusiasm wasn't ignited by numbers and contracts but by the passionate business owners he met. This realization sparked a desire for change.

Seeking clarity and a fresh perspective, Scott traded his office in Toronto for the snowy slopes of Whistler, where he spent a season skiing and contemplating his next move. It was amidst this scenic retreat that an idea struck him--to move to the exotic landscapes of Hawaii, a stark contrast to the bustling city life he was accustomed to. Patricia is a forward-thinking therapist who has been immersed in the psychological community, where the polyvagal theory has sparked significant interest. With a foundation in stress management and trauma, she was captivated by Doctor Stephen Porges's work on the polyvagal theory, which she encountered during a course between 2020 and 2021.

As a dedicated professional, Patricia was not content with only understanding the theoretical aspects; she delved deeper by applying her newfound knowledge in a practical manner. She developed a novel approach which she termed "mapping my clients' nervous systems," through which she worked with about 35 individuals to help them gain a clearer understanding of their responses to stress and danger.

Her innovative application of the polyvagal theory has allowed her clients to grasp the nuances of their fight, flight, freeze, and collapse responses. Patricia's work in mapping the nervous system stands as a testament to her commitment to integrating groundbreaking research into tangible therapeutic practice, empowering her clients with a deeper insight into their own psychological mechanisms.
