    Publisher's Summary:
Imus is back -- by popular demand -- with the Second Greatest Story Ever Told, the hilarious novel about the most outrageous TV evangelist of them all -- Billy Sol Hargus.
"God had two sons. Jesus was His first, and I, Billy Sol Hargus, am His second." Thus begins Don Imus's riotously funny story about the life and times of the lecherous, corrupt, hustling, huckstering television evangelist who claims to have a 2,000 year old brother named Jesus. From his backwoods Texas country-preacher roots, Billy Sol rose to dazzle the nation as a Superstar Minister -- preaching at sold-out stadiums and traveling across the country.
Reverend Billy raked in the dough, the fame, and the women. And then it happened -- just like Amelia Earhart and Jimmy Hoffa, Billy Sol vanished one day into legend, disappearing from the face of the earth. But unlike anyone else in the Family, Billy kept a diary -- and now his tapes, believed lost, can finally be heard. Praise the Lord!

Is there anything you would change about this book?
To much of the book is left out. The book is laugh out loud funny During break time at work, jury duty, on an airplane anywhere in public when I was reading the book I would bust out laughing loud and hard and I read it several times, BUT with the audiobook sorry to say 2 times. Imus did a good job it's just too much was left out.

With steadily increasing doses of a strange new hallucinogen, Ashworth finds that the drug allows him to reassemble his past in broken fragments. But as he begins to lose touch with the present, his distinction between truth and fantasy begins to crumble, creating a world where divisions between love and loss, violence and tenderness, and fact and fiction are less discernible than they ought to be.

If only Flashman had got on with his dinner and ignored the handkerchief dropped by a flirtatious hussy in a Calcutta hotel... well, American history might have been different, a disastrous civil war might have been avoided, and Flash Harry himself would have been spared one of the most hair-raising adventures of his misspent life. If only... but alas, the arch-rotter of the Victorian age could never resist the lure of a pretty foot and this latest extract from The Flashman Papers soon finds him careering towards the little Virginian town of Harper's Ferry, where John Brown and his gang of rugged fanatics were to fire the first shot in the great war against slavery.

David Case reads excellent as Flashman
Would you listen to Flashman and the Angel of the Lord again? Why?
Yes, great story and narration, lots of fun and loads of history.
What did you like best about this story?
The adventure, the humor, the narrator, the history
    Which scene was your favorite?
    All of them.
If you could rename Flashman and the Angel of the Lord, what would you call it?
    Not a better name.
    Any additional comments?
Worth listening to over and over.
    Really liked it
His usual mix of fast paced action, history and humor. The narration was also excellent
    Flashman
A cross between monte python, forest Gump and Austin powers. Very entertaining series. Once you get past period notions on race and social class. I find the direct depictions of slaves to be at once offensive, then upon deeper contemplation, a peak into the hardship and obscenity that was American slavery. A picture that is hard to see, even harder to look away from. So, on the whole entertaining. Though not always pleasant.
    The Flash Goes Marching On
The irascible character of Harry "Flash" Flashman is compelled by various forces to join the John Brown's raid on Harper's Ferry. Along the way, Flash encounters many characters who sport a variety of accents- Upper Crusty English, Scottish, American Southern, to name a few. This narrator does a good job with the British accents, and handles John Brown himself with aplomb. The whining, keening tone of Brown's rhetoric still resonates in my head. What the narrator does best is take certain phrases and make them immensely humorous. I laughed outloud at some of the well-timed comments.

    Members Reviews:
    Excellent Read
This book was overall a terrific listen, full of medical detail and complex, dissonant situations. The narrative was well-crafted and authentic.
The only downer was the narrator - she seemed way to young to be the voice of a seasoned, experienced anesthesiologist. Plus, she kept mispronouncing words: "metastic" instead of "metastatic" and "endiometritis" instead of "endometriosis". "Yakimaw" instead of "Yakima".
Still a good read. One of the best selections of medical fiction currently on offer.
    One of my favorite books!
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Reading this book was definitely worth the time! As a physician, this is one of my all-time favorite books. I've given it to several friends as gifts, and recommended it to book clubs.
Who was your favorite character and why?
There is really just one character - the narrator. Everyone else is peripheral to what is happening to her.
What aspect of Jennifer Ikedas performance would you have changed?
She mispronounces several medical terms. It's jarring. Also, she changes voices when the character speaks, and makes her sound flighty and unpleasant.
    Good story
What made the experience of listening to Oxygen the most enjoyable?
The story line touched my heart. Dr. Marie Heaton truly cares about her patients, and when her young patient dies on the operating table, she is faced with a malpractice suit. The mystery behind the cause of that death and Marie's doubts about her care of that patient and possible responsibly for her death, made this book a good listen.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Dr. Heaton. She searches for clues that will explain the cause of the death of her patient and feels empathy for the young mother whose daughter's life has ended after what should have been a simple surgery.
What aspect of Jennifer Ikedas performance would you have changed?
I can't say that Jennifer's performance was bad, but her sweet voice sounded a little too young and innocent to portray a doctor who had been out of medical school for 6 years. She also mispronounced several medical terms which was somewhat distracting.
Who was the most memorable character of Oxygen and why?
Of course the main character, Marie. I felt a lot of compassion for her while she fought to understand and piece together the cause of her patient's death, while also dealing with the personal crisis of her father's declining health and the relationship she has with her former lover and colleague, Dr. Joe Hillary.
    Any additional comments?
When I first started listening to this book, I wasn't sure that I was going to like it. Dr. Heaton's character was a little too good to make the story believable and the medical descriptions were a little too detailed, but with time, the story evolves and there are twists and turns that kept my interest up.

Dr. Phil and Oprah has a kid.
So if Dr. Phil and Oprah had a kid that read nothing but Grisham and wrote a Disney movie of the week...
Broadly written characters are more caricatures than real, with an endless stream of bumper sticker catch phrases in the overwrought relationships of the sisters.
None the less, it is an easy listen that makes the miles in a car roll by easily. The narrator is one of the best female narrators ever.
Dont get me wrong, its not a bad book. Its just a simple read. If Gillian Flynn is a homemade cheesecake, this is jello. Good, but simple and basic.
    Wonderful
Haywood Smith has the ability to make you smile, laugh out loud and cry. Her southern charactors and lyrical reader keep you listening. The best of her works yet.

    Seriously funny
Before reading, I mean hearing this book, I'd never considered fly-fishing, but now....
The book is original, clever, and bitingly funny. Thoughtful, too. The elegant writing is matched by the reading and production. The readers/actors did a wonderful job of accents and expressions. I may listen to it again just for the pleasure of it.
This was my introduction to Paul Torday, taken up at the recommedation of a friend. I'm going to look for more of his work right now.

Haven't seen the movie but really enjoyed the book
    Any additional comments?
Good read. Had a little bit of everything in it. Politics, satire, comedy, relationships and some fishing. I would highly recommend it. Don't let the title fool you. Fishing is part of the story but really only plays a minor role.
Sardonic but warm with themes of faith and courage to follow dreams
Quasi epistolary structure that built nuanced characters. Very well performed in almost a tv doco style.
    Very amusing
Loved this movel. Very tongue in cheek. Characters really come to life. Now IIm going to see if the movie does it justice and perhaps I'll look for snother novel by Torday.

Step-brothers Baldy Li and Song Gang couldn't be more different. While Baldy is a girl-chasing teen, Song is quiet and studious. The two come of age in a vibrant Chinese culture struggling with constant change.
    Critic Reviews:
Baldy Li, the hero of Yu's epic third novel, comes into the world on the same day his father slips to a disgraceful demise while ogling women in a public toilet. The incident is big news in tiny Liu Town, China, and leaves the family tainted with shame. Yet even as Baldy Li and his mother, Li Lan, cower under the taunts of their neighbors, things begin to change for the better. The tall, handsome Song Fanping falls in love with Li Lan and marries her. Li Lan gains new happiness and Baldy Li gains an older stepbrother, Song Gang. Together, the two boys weather the changes of the Cultural Revolution, reform and globalization, and Yu's unflinching narrative, by turns tragic and hilarious, shows ordinary lives being broken down and built up again. (Publishers Weekly)
    Members Reviews:
    Quirky, original, compelling and readable
Something a little different, a little strange in places and a rollercoaster ride through China's recent history. I liked this book a lot for exposing me to another culture, in a bizarre and unique way, for being irreverent and bold and for melding that perfectly with a moving and emotional story. I like stories like The Joy Luck Club or Memoirs of a Geisha but sometimes find they take themselves a bit too seriously and I desire something spunkier but that still deals with cultural, historical and even tragic events. This book hit it just right. The book uses the story of two loyal and dedicated brothers (despite frequent rifts and betrayals) to personify the rapid cultural changes in China. If this kind of story interests you and as long as you aren't offended by strong language you'll enjoy this book.
    China's "Midnight Children"
If you enjoyed Gunter Grass's "The Tin Drum" and Salman Rushdie's "Midnight Children," you'll like this novel.
The NY Times review too harshly criticizes the translators' inability to capture the nuances of the many Chinese aphorisms. The same criticism could be made of every translation. But this defect doesn't diminish the overall tone and power of the book. If anything, it reminds the reader he is dealing with a different culture.
The story sketches a post-modern/magical realism bildungsroman of two Chinese half-brothers from the crushing poverty of The Cultural Revolution to the hyper-materialism of present China.
For me, the most compelling part of the book was the cruelty visited on the brothers' father by the Red Guard.
There is also a love story involving a beautiful village girl for whom the brothers competed. But I won't spoil; you'll have to listen yourself.
    Highly recommended.
After three hours, I gave up.
Really, after listening to hundreds of books of the years (starting on tapes, then CD's then downloads), I rarely just give up. I mean if I could get through Roberto Bolaño's 39 hour "2666", I could get through most anything. But after 3 hours of "Brothers", I was just getting really annoyed and bored .

For 47 days, the Union army lays siege to the town of Vicksburg, Mississippi, forcing Claire Louise and her family to flee their home to live in the safety of a nearby cave. When her beloved brother Landon, a doctor in the Union army, shows up one day with a wounded Confederate soldier named Robert, Claire Louise knows theres more to the story than she is being told. Eventually she learns that Robert is responsible for allowing an order from Robert E. Lee to fall into Union hands, causing the South to lose the Battle of Antietam. As a captain in the army, Landon is honor-bound to turn Robert over to authorities. But if he does, Robert will most assuredly be tried for treason. This knowledge weighs heavily on Claire Louise as she takes it upon herself to make a difficult choice between family and friend . . . and live with the consequences of her decision.
    Members Reviews:
    Sort of Boring
This book bordered on boring. I never related to the characters or their situation. A disapointment after reading the author's excellent book about Mary Todd Lincoln.
    My Vicksburg
The book arrived in excellent condition. Both my daughter and I have enjoyed reading it, and, like all other Ann Rinaldi books, it was excellent.
An okay read, but not among the author's best.
Thirteen-year-old Claire Louise Corbet, living in Vicksburg, Mississippi in the spring of 1863, struggles with the many changes the Civil War has brought to her family and her life. Her beloved older brother Landon, has joined the Union Army as a doctor, leaving the Corbet family with divided loyalties - they still love him, but support the Confederate cause. Her father, also a doctor, has joined the Confederate Army. And when Vicksburg comes under siege by the Union Army, Claire Louise, her little brother James, their mother, and their household servants must leave their comfortable house to live in a cave.
Soon after, Claire Louise finds her loyalties further divided. Her brother, whom she hasn't seen in many months, has returned to Vicksburg to care for wounded soldiers. He brings with him Robert, a wounded Confederate soldier. Landon confides in Claire Louise that Robert is a Confederate officer that was responsible for an order from General Lee that fell into Union hands, leading to a terrible Confederate defeat. Though Robert insists the order was lost accidentally, Landon feels compelled to turn him in. Now Claire Louise is forced to choose between her brother and helping Robert, which she feels is right in her heart.
I have loved most of the books I've read by Ann Rinaldi, so I really wanted to like this one as well. But in the end, I thought it was just okay, and nothing more. For starters, it was really at least a bit too short, and was missing a lot of backstory and explanation - why did Landon join the Union Army? Why was he so readily accepted back in Vicksburg after betraying his Confederate neighbors to help the enemy? The character of Claire Louise herself was inconsistent at times as well, sometimes acting very immature for her age and other times making adult decisions. My Vicksburg isn't a terrible book - it's a quick, pleasant enough read. Readers who already love Ann Rinaldi's books will likely find it an enjoyable enough way to spend a couple of hours.
