4 Beautifully Intense Dark Broken Stars!!

WARNING! This is one of those books that wont be for everyone.There were some seriously gritty parts. Death. Teen Suicide. Depression. Mindless sex. A lot of drug use. People who are doing any thing they can to erase the pain, numb themselves. If all that makes you uncomfortable or you are looking for a stand alone with a hea, this wont be the book for you. However, If you are looking for an emotional, raw, powerful and beautiful book, you will want to give this one a go!!! I went back and forth on my rating... the book wasn't perfect, but any book that can evoke that much feeling from me gets a least 4 solid stars. I love Jessica Sorensens writing. Its so fluid and beautiful. Most of her books aren't light. She creates beautifully damaged characters who have some serious issues.Nova and Quinton are not perfect characters. They are both broken, flawed, damaged. Nova Reed & Quinton Carter have both suffered major losses. Their lives have been shattered by these deaths and find it hard to live a normal life in the aftermath. Nova used to have a carefree and strong spirit, who looked at life optimistically, until her boyfriend Landon committed suicide. Now she is sad all the time and has formed OCD. She counts rocks, cracks, tiles, and so on just to keep the memories buried. Quinton was a really good guy with a bright future ahead of him, until one tragic night when he lost control of his car and killed his girlfriend and another friend of his. He nearly died that night but got a second chance at a life. Unfortunately, he does not feel lucky to be alive. The person he used to be died on the side of the road that night. In place of the old Quinton is an emotionless broken man, who numbs his pain with drugs. These two broken souls are drowning in their grief and never thought they could feel something other than sadness and pain until they meet each other.Iam going to be very honest. Silly, Juvenile and Ridiculous

What would have made An Order of Coffee and Tears better?

The writing was juvenile, overly dramatic and repetitive. The premise for Gabby running away at 16 is far-fetched and being found in Philadelphia by the parents of her first love from Texas out of the blue? She seemed virtually unscathed after being a runaway for so long. Nothing in this story was at all believable.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

She couldn't decide who had an accent and who didn't. Poorly done. She attempts to portray a character who stutters and does a horrible job of it. Very grating narration.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I spent most of the time rolling my eyes at the story, the writing and the characters, or should I say caricatures. They had no substance.

Long Time Coming

Have you listened to any of Shannon McManuss other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my first Shannon McMannus book. I've had the kindle version for a long time, but simply didn't make time. I'm glad to have had a chance to listen to the book.

When you need a well woven story to get through.

This was one of those stories rhat is deeply satisfying...the ring of truth, the "right" ending and full of the comfort of good people.

Good story; HORRIBLE narration

I have reviewed the other two books in this series, and Unleashed was ruined for me by the narrator. In my other two reviews, I have gone easy on him and said that he was better suited for narrating children's books. In Unleashed, however, the narrator was so awful that it actually ruined the story for me. Danny Taggart, the oldest of the Taggart brothers (and also the physically biggest) has a voice like woman. Caroline (the lead female character and love of Danny's life), sounds like she's been smoking two packs a day for 20 years.

I don't know....maybe some listeners won't let that get in the way of their enjoyment of this otherwise pretty solid detective/romance story, but this time, I just could not get past the narration to really invest myself in the story or the characters. However, I'm glad I pushed myself to listen to the whole book because the subplot about Danny's mother is finally brought to a conclusion.

The HEA scene for Danny and Caroline - good job in having Danny finally owning his issues. He and Caroline weren't in for a cake walk, but they really did love each other enough to face the future together. However, when he went after her (she was on vacation in New Zealand) and found her on a hike made me roll my eyes.

Unleashed was still worth a credit just so I could finish the series.

Narrator was pretty bad

I think the actual storyline was probably pretty good but the narration ruined it. The heroes voice was OK but the heroine sounded like an old man with laryngitis. He actually pitched his voice lower for the heroin and higher for the hero. It was difficult to finish but I did. I will probably return this book.

a great story to finish out the gemini trilogy but I gotta say that I wasn't all that impressed with the character voices for danny or caroline. although the rest of the narration is pretty good.

Great story HORRIBLE narration

The narration almost ruined the book! The male character voices were fine but the narrators female voices were strange. I actually went back to the beginning and relistened because I thought I missed something - throat injury or illness! At times it was difficult to even understand the words.

A high school story totally forgettable.

The most overrated author that I had read in a lot of years. It made me think in the reflection of the Whiplash teacher... Really? That's excellent? An infantile tale with a poor structure, a lacy ending, a washy pseudo milfy affair? Oh! And last but not least. To be so pretentious to pretend be a young hipster Nabokov. A high school story totally forgettable.

Modern Romance

Ben Brooks manages to capture the way the internet has transformed the world into a tiny, horrifying place. This is the death of romance and the birth of infinite boredom. "Lolito" perfectly captures what it's like to grow up in this new age - where everything is available and everything sucks.

Also, rumors of the unsettling "kitten passages" are true. There are two of them in the novel. They are stirring, poetic, and absolutely essential.

Highly recommended.

So sorry I ever read it

I bought the kindle edition of this book because I saw a favorable review somewhere on the Internet. My opinion after reading it is anything but favorable. How do I hate it? Let me count the ways.

1. Boring

2. Confusing

3. Poorly written

4. Unimaginably gross when talking about an incident of kitten abuse, so much so that I wish I had never read it (it's THAT bad, and haunting me still).

5. Annoyingly repetitive

Are teenage boys really this disgusting?

You need this book. I need that hat.

This was my book club's read this month and I have to say that I wasn't too eager to read this. I thought it sounded kind of silly and thought it wouldn't be my type of book. What a nice surprise to find out that I was wrong. I thought this book was awesome. It was unique and whimsical. The story takes place in France in the 1980s. If you read the book's description you'll see that President Francois Mitterrand leaves his black felt hat in a Parisian brasserie. Daniel Mercier, an accountant, who happens to be eating dinner at a table next to Mitterrand notices the hat. Being a bit starstruck, Daniel Mercier picks it up and keeps it for himself. This action completely changes Daniel Mercier's life. I don't want to spoil such a cool story, so I will just say that the hat takes the reader on an interesting journey. For such a short book, Laurain knows how to paint descriptions of characters, food, smells, etc., in such a intelligent and concise way that I haven't encountered before. He describes things perfectly and then he moves along. The narration was spot on and I really enjoyed listening to all the French words and accents. It was an added bonus that I feel that the reader would miss out on by just reading the book. Suffice it to say, I will be looking out for more books from Antoine Laurain in the future.

A really smart plot

Such a clever story, and well narrated! My only issue with this book is that I wish it had been longer. Well worth an Audible credit, even though it might seem unremarkable from the synopsis.

Ha Ha Ha Ha

Sorry but i just had to laugh at how pathetic Brianna (Lead Lady) was. Being Abused can offer you several choices to take on Life's Highway but for me it left me Scared but Strong (Thank God) not so Weak and so totally unrealistic like Brianna's behaviour was described. All Abused people have there scar's but Brianna was portrayed as a total nutter and should of been under psychiatric help. There was Hot Sex but... I could not connect with any of the story..

I liked this series very much. I have read some of the other reviews and yes I do think Brianna needed to grow stronger in this book. I had to read the last one in the series to see how the story ends. It was amazing to see how both characters evolved throgh out the story. PLEASE we need the last one on audio wit the same narrators iif possible

Ok Where is the Last Book???!!!!

I enjoyed the information related to BDSM and the story was ok. However Ana was annoying she lacked so much strength. I felt her strength could have been built up more. Very disappointed there was any finality to this book and there wasn't another book to finish this out. Real bummer

There has to be another book after this one!

The book is pretty sexual but I was so interested in learning why people would choose this life style, I couldn't quit listening to it. I was surprised about the ending. Hoping there will be a sequel.

Exotic Locals, Banana Pancakes & Serial Killing

The Lonely Planet traveler knows how to see some of the worlds most beautiful and exotic locations on the cheap. A passport, a backpack, a pair of good boots and a map of the local youth hostels and youre on your way. Typical problems on the road revolve around disease, transportation, food and water. Who would think to add serial killer to this list? This is the idea presented in this creepy little story.

International backpackers are typically affable, easy-going and a happy-go-lucky bunch. Easy to make new friends of a variety of cultures and always up for whatever they are the low hanging fruit to the traveling sociopath on a budget. Our Hero, Paul, a world traveler of The Road, encounters this serial killer and begins a slow chase to find him and stop him forever. Part of this is a revenge quest Pauls girlfriend was one of the victims but along the way Paul learns that the whole situation is even creepier than simple murder.

This slow thriller, set in the early aughts, has Paul traveling from internet café to internet café, from Cameroon to Nepal to Indonesia. The author paints each location beautifully; you know hes been there, that hes eaten the food and seen the sights. The thrill isnt in the mystery, Paul figures out who the killer is pretty quickly, but in how hes going to resolve the situation. Local and international law enforcement are less than helpful.

Un roman d'apprentissage sur fond de France gaulliste, entre prospérité et déchirements de la guerre d'Algérie. L'affirmation que l'amertume de l'Histoire ne doit jamais tarir l'appétit de vivre.

Stéphane Ronchewski réussit cette performance de redonner l'émotion du présent à des pans d'histoire déjà enfouis dans une mémoire collective qu'ils ont contribué à façonner.

On ne s'ennuie jamais

Bien écrit, un peu naïf sur l'histoire et la réalité des amitiés. Pourtant on ne s'ennuie pas bizarrement.

Le lecteur est beaucoup trop BCBG et un peu efféminé ce qui ne colle pas trop avec le personnage du roman.

J'ai adoré

Merveilleux - je suis en pleine période d'examen et j'arrivais pas à lâcher le livre. Bravo!
