Gibran is one of my favorite authors, and this book about his work is an amazing retrospective on his work. The narration leaves much to be desired.

Thoughtful and Well Read

Would you consider the audio edition of Miracle Cures: Saints, Pilgrimage, and the Healing Powers of Belief to be better than the print version?

Scott presents a carefully researched and accessible understanding medieval and modern miracle cures by Christian saints. While he does not discount the possibility of supernatural intervention, he offers interesting theories about the pscyho/social and physiological factors that contribute to the healing of the faithful. He is respectful of and open to religious explanations of cures. The book is well organized and written so that the average reader can easily understand it. I appreciated how he covered not only the distant past, but also examined the impact of current technology on the veneration of saints.

Malos does an excellent job narrating this book. He clearly put effort into finding the correct pronunciation for foreign and scientific words. He conveyed an enthusiasm for the material that made it more interesting and engaging. What could have been a dry, scientific read was easy to listen to and held my attention. I believe his narration made a good book better. Well read!

Have you listened to any of Bob Maloss other performances before? How does this one compare?

Malos is a superb narrator. He brings energy and interest to his material and adds to it in a way that does not distract from the work. He is easy to listen to and he holds my attention, even on this book which could have become a dry and boring scientific dissertation. His pace, clarity and pronunciation are first-rate.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed hearing this book. This is the first time I have listened to an audio book for something that was not a story. Given that this book is researched based, I was pleasantly surprised by how the audio version held my attention and how well I was able to follow and take in the information.

By daring to question "sacred" religion, challenging your childhood beliefs, and risking eternal damnation (okay, so there might be a minor side effect to reading this book), you will discover an appreciation for religion on a new level, as well as a renewed appreciation for the human race.

Through a unique blend of science, philosophy, theology, and a touch of humor, you will see how you can trust your logic and reason, be true to yourself, and embrace God, not as a being, but as a concept - The Concept.

Mostly respectful while challenging the masses

Bo Bennett gives a good intro to conflicts which a biblical faith is sure to cause to arise in an American mind. The one thing I wish he had a little more of was mention of logical fallacies, though he covered the elementary considerations of these. This might have been perfect if he could have avoided at least half to two-thirds of his mentions of "magic" in place of milder words (IDK, maybe "so-called miracles" -heck, he could have invented a word).

I do agree that teaching children about hell is walking a dangerous line, but may be required in getting some children to behave.

He also could have meandered onto the rabbit trail of the importance of Christians and humanists of a more secular variety forging mutual understandings and friendships based on shared rights in potentially threatened cultures of imbalanced, alleged "tolerance" and changing (dangerous) prerogatives.

Also, if he knew about the success of cohesion which humanists achieve and the success of cohesion which Christians achieve, he might have come out and plainly stated it.

For what it was, focused on someone who is a cultural Christian or a cultural Catholic, even somewhat to a true believer (or hard-liner, if you prefer) this book met it's goals with a minimum of side-lining.

A solid 4s for a basically level delivery.

Refreshing & Brilliant

Where does The Good Book rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

This is among my favourite books. I'm not sure what several of the other reviewers are looking for, but if you interested in timeless wisdom from a plethora of great minds throughout history that is non-religious and in a style similar to religious writings, then I suggest trying this book. I think this book is a great alternative to the Bible, if you are seeking a different source of guidance in life.

Great narrator - enthusiastic, articulate, and easy to listen to.

Promised much... but did not deliver

I really really wanted this book to be all that it promised to be... but it is not!!!

In my opinion this book is a lot of Oxford 'ivory tower' clap trap and it is overwhelmingly self indulgent.

Words cannot describe how tortuous this book is to listen to... it is a waste of the good money I paid for 'The Good Book'.

Avoid... avoid... avoid!!!

I could physically only stomach about 20 minutes of this tripe. Flowery and pretentious nonsense. Check out a sample before buying to avoid wasting a download like I did.

tries to sound like the bible but it is not.

Did not finish, just to boring! language used makes it sound like the bible but it's not and trying to sound like it just makes it silly.
