The tragedy of choosing your side in a war

The wagnerian fall of one of Lea's lover, Mathias, who flounders with the rest of the so called one thousand year Reich. I would advise reading to young people of our time who believe it is easy to choos the right camp. But I did not give full mark as there are too many event thsu the books becomes too ireal. It would be interesting to compare to the "Fall of giants" and its following text by Ken Follet.

Excellent - as expected

I'm not going to attempt to review Tolstoy. However, I would like to point out that War and Peace is probably his most extraordinary novel, and I highly recommend it for readers aging 45 and above. It is not for the ones in a hurry. It is a sublime pleasure that is prolonged all along the 2000 pages of both volumes of the novel.

For those of you who love literature, he's as good as it gets. I've heard people say that Tolstoy 'describes too much'. Not the case. I never found a 'page filling description', one that is not really sublime and fully contributes in the context

of the narration.

For those of you who like reading in French, this edition is an excellent choice.

Good translation, i think. Some spelling errors and a few (enexplainable to me) words in english. Very happy to have a kindle and to have access to all this free books.

Could Not Listen

I am sure there is valuable stuff in here. But I could not listen. I would have perfered a book that takes the lessons of this book and applies them to more modern issues.

Orgueil et Prejuges

I'm an American with fair, conversational French. The reviews by several French reviewers confirmed some of my suspicions, namely that the translation was probably done by a computer ... and rather badly, even to my American ear. When the computer got "stuck", it simply left the English word in place. This occurs frequently. Also, on occasion, the translation is simply wrong, usually by making a literal translation of an idiomatic expression. A good translation would have a more elegant and flowing quality. I agree that the translation can't have been reviewed by anyone who both understood English well, and also spoke good French.

All that being said, I still find it useful to read a French translation of a book in English which I both love and know well. I KNOW what to expect next. The mis-translations, or failures to translate, are not sufficiently annoying to stop me from reading it.

The Pleasure of Jane in French

A very nice translation; it carries her sly humor excellently; the context allows interpretation of words that may not come quickly to mind; that's the 5 stars.

I would recommend it to all who love Jane; and for students of French who would like a treat as they learn -- the usual texts in French classes are often a classical yawn!

A delightful read

What could be better than this classic by Jane Austin. I fell in love with Darcy all over again, despaired with Elizabeth over her ridiculous mother, and totally enjoyed being with the Bennett family.

Ce livre doit avoir été "traduit" par un logiciel de la première heure. Il n'est pas lisible et il ne faut donc pas l'acquérir. Mme gratuit, c'est une mauvaise affaire.

First of all - its in Danish. If you understand Danish, then you are in for a treat. One of the most famous Islandic sagas well narrated.

Najlepsza ksika jakiej suchaem.

Pan Drygalski po mistrzowsku prowadzi narracj, a jzyk Sienkiewicza w peni oddaje charakter staroytnego Rzymu. Daem angielskie tumaczenie w prezencie znajomej profesor. Powiedziaa, e nie rozumie jak Sienkiewicz móg równie autentycznie przedstawi wczesne wspólnoty chrzecijaskie.
