Where is the booklet?

The product description said that the audiobook download would be accompanied by a copy of the written reference material. Language 30 CDs are always accompanied by a booklet containing the phrases in writing. But my Audible app has only the audio files.

Different levels of lessons and repetition of words with clear pronunciation make it different which I won't be able to enjoy in book. Because in book you can only read words but you can not understand how are they pronounced. Encouraging words and tips given in beginning by Mark Frobose, motivated me to practice as much as I can.

A Few Lessons and I'm Speaking to Chinese Waitress

Bite-Sized Mandarin Chinese takes a very difficult tonal language and totally demystifies the learning of it. Makes learning to speak Mandarin Chinese surprisingly simple. Extremely engaging native Mandarin speaker and a knowledgeable American instructor put me at ease and talked me through a very difficult language and made it simple. Bite-Sized is an appropriate title. A language so foreign to Westerners has to be ingested a bite at a time. The learner wont choke on the bites in Bite-Sized Mandarin Chinese.

This audio program is about learning simple phrases and using them to ask and answer common questions. The material is not extremely complicated, just the stuff thats necessary for basic communication. The pronunciation of some of the words was so difficult in the beginning that I was frankly surprised that by about the third lesson my pronunciation was getting more precise. Distinguishing sounds and tones got easier with each lesson.

I dont have the time or the inclination to become a super fluent speaker of Chinese. But I got a kick out of learning some basic Mandarin Chinese and a sort of ego boost from the confidence this course gave me that if I wanted to, really wanted to, I could eventually learn to speak this language pretty well. Its just a matter of practice. Listen and Repeat. Listen and Repeat.

Easy introduction to a language

What did you love best about Rapid Dutch: Volumes 1 & 2?

This was a fun, easy way to be introduced to a language. The two presenters are charming and it doesn't feel like endless language drills.

The best way to get a language stuck in your head

I bought Earworms Rapid Dutch entirely because I had a gift certificate I had to spend and it sounded like fun. I'm a serious student of Dutch working with a private tutor, but I wanted something to listen to in the car to get the Dutch sounds in my head on a daily basis. This did the trick.

The Earworms series isn't exactly what it advertises. I thought I would get Dutch words and phrases set to music, much like the ABC and numbers songs you teach children in English or the Schoolhouse Rock TV shows from the 1970s. The language isn't set to music, but there is a musical background to all the dialogs. A Dutch speak says a phrase, like "Good morning" or "I'm sorry", and the English speaker repeats it. This is done in a playful manner with the English speaker occasionally adding helpful mnemonics like, "Oh, that sounds like "it spites me"." Then the Dutch speaker says, "That's right!" and the lesson moves on. It's casual and laid back and it keeps phrases stuck in my head better than just repeating them with my tutor.

It's not the be-all and end-all of language learning because at most, there are only 3 volumes of each language. But it gives a great introduction. And more important than anything, they get the language stuck in your head. I only wish there were versions for other languages I want to study!

Too short

2000 words are needed to understand daily language so it would be great if Ear Worms would provide this and an advanced course to 10,000. There's nothing else on the market to 10,000.

Excellent and enjoyable

Earworms Dutch, Volumes 1 and 2, comprise the most enjoyable effective language learning I've experienced.

A Surprisingly Helpful Program

Where does Rapid Arabic: Volumes 1 & 2 rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

I was surprised how much I like this program, considering it could be written off as a bit cheesy at first listen. It's in my top Arabic learning programs so far (and I've tried quite a few.) The reason I purchased the program was because I liked the specific music track behind the program on the sample. It was soothing and added to the learning experience. Some of the music on the Rapid programs samples for other languages seemed a little annoying to me, but I'm glad I went ahead because on the Arabic tracks the music actually fades into the background and helps with learning the vocabulary and phrases. There is plenty of useful dialogue on this, as well as explanation of what you're hearing. The "learner" on the tracks will often respond with helpful insight about what he has just heard which makes the words and phrases make much more sense than a simple repetition track. I find that the vocabulary and dialogue given in this method are easy to remember because you are experiencing the conversations and not just repeating sounds that have little connection with you. You won't learn everything, but as a complete beginner it's been hard to find ways to hear and learn vocabulary to go with the grammar and script learning that one has to do when starting Arabic.

This is useful if you picture the thing/ scene the words represent in your mind as the words are being said. Follow along in mental pictures.

this method suits my way of learning

Motivated by learning Arabic, I have tried several methods (generally of the type with no explanations " here's what you say when you want to see the menu, now memorize it"). This one is the only one that has enabled me to make significant progress. With a rythmic background beat, repetition is given the priority it deserves. This works for me because I need to hear structures and vocab several times clearly to give me the time to memorize them and understand how they work. This latter concern is facilitated by very simple explanations (this is when speaking to a woman, this is when speaking to a man, this suffix added to a noun means there's two of them etc) that are helpful. Maybe some more in-depth explanations would be welcome. One last significant detail: the scenario here is a female teacher teaching to a male student, doing rôle-plays.

Good introduction for absolute beginners like me. I especially liked Mahmoud and Janes's interventions/explanations of the origins of certain words.

I really did not like this teaching method of sharing the class with two other 'students'. At first, I thought it was a clever idea but then found it distracting and annoying to have to wait for their answers. Also, often, when Jane was asking to repeat something, I did not have time to press 'pause' to think of my answer, one of the two students already was starting to answer and spoil it for me. hahaha. I felt like the two other students were waisting my time.

I'm amazed at my progress

Years of traditional teaching destroyed my confidence. Being dyslexic made languages the enemy to me. This has got me speaking in hours and I'm feeling motivated to learn more. I'm blown away.

What made the experience of listening to Arabic (Modern Standard) Phase 1, Units 1-30 the most enjoyable?

The gradual interval recall is a very great method to keep you remember everything. When new words are introduced chop it up into smaller parts beginning from the end. That's very useful and makes you know exactly how to articulate the words.

Pimsleur courses gives you a strong foundation in the language that will accelerate your learning with other methods after you're done with them. Your accent will be perfect just like a native. It works effortlessly and it's quite easy to follow along.

First Arabic study that really worked for me!

I have been trying to learn Arabic casually on my own for several years. I've tried Rosetta Stone, which taught me some disconnected words that I was unable to string together into a complete, useful sentence. I've borrowed a couple textbooks from friends who were studying Arabic in college but never put in the required time with them. This Pimsleur audio book is perfect though!

I love that I was speaking complete, useful sentences from the very first lesson. I just bought the level 2, 30 lesson audio book and am so excited to keep studying and improving every day.
