Publisher's Summary:
For American Tom Wall, the days have run together as he awakens to find himself locked in a British military asylum. Wounded and shell-shocked, all he knows is that his brother, Earl, betrayed his unit in Crete, causing one of the bloodiest massacres of the war.
MI5 releases Tom by way of a bargain. Pretend to be Earl and convince Sondegger to reveal how and where he has arranged to transmit his intelligence to Germany. Fail, and spend the rest of the war in jail. Succeed, and Tom, though still considered a danger to himself, will be allowed to leave the hospital to find Earl, who may well be a Nazi informant.
But Sondegger proves himself to be a formidable opponent. Even as he surrendered himself to the British, he knew the Japanese fleet had sailed for Pearl Harbor. The question is: Who will gain more if the Allies prevent the attack? Sondegger, MI5, the OSS, Tom, and Earl's wife, Harriet, all have different answers. Unable to trust anyone, Tom attempts to save the Twenty Committee and stop the attack on Pearl Harbor as the clock counts down.
In his electrifying debut, Joel Ross combines political insights with the high stakes and fast pace of classic espionage fiction, and he delivers what others have not in more than a decade, a Nazi spy novel that you cannot put down.

Disappointing
Intriguing story but it proceeds much too slowly, The characters are predictable. I'm sorry to write that I was disappointed.
A bit different but enjoyable
The approach, with the main character a bit battle-damaged, is a little different and I found it refreshing. Thomas Wall is a rather messed up, is single-minded in his desire to find his brother with the apparent intent to kill him, and is being used by almost everyone. I thought the plot interesting but understandable. I think if you liked John Lawton's "Blackout" you would also like this.
Minor league
This is very minor league Ken Follett or Frederick Forysth. The plot moves because it has to, the german is a shadow of Hannibal Lecter and the hero, while physically suffering, somehow finds the ability to continually escape from the mental institution he finds himself in. There are so many good WW2 spy novels around there is really no reason to devote much time to this. Very disappointing and it did not make me want to read any more of his titles.
Amazing description of the post-Blitz London and Nazi spies. Loved it.
I just finished reading this book really liked it despite what some people might say. True, he could have expanded the characters a bit more but that is what is great about the book. It made you want to keeping reading to find out what the heck happens next. It is his first novel so I am not ruling that out but for a first book, it had a great storyline. My dad is a World War 2 fanatic and so I know a bit about WW2 and I just finished learning about this time era in history and the book was very well researched. Granted the times were hard and so I was expecting of harsh language, so just be warned it has a lot of foul language. The content was not that descriptive for the battle scenes so it is not that gruesome. If I were to give it a rating, it would be: PG-13 to R (for harsh language, a a few sexual references, and mild gruesomeness). Other then that, awesome book and I hope he writes another one.
Dont bother
The cover had an endorsement by Patricia Cornwell [haunting and unforgettable] , so I got this book. Big mistake.
