I'll be honest. I read this many years ago ...

I'll be honest. I read this many years ago, but could not find a copy now. I bought a kindle just to read this (although there are other books on it now). SciFi as it was in the 60s & 70s. Just the thing for us nostalgia buffs.

Deadly Sports, Secret Spies, & Telepathic Contacts

The Norman Way is an excellent example of 1960s science fiction. It is well-written, easy to read, and, most important, terrific entertainment.

McIntosh gives us a futuristic world where physical perfection is practically worshipped, where clothing is nearly optiona -bathing trunks and bikinis are standard dress, and where all are tested in the Sports. While sport challenges are nothing new, going back thousands of years to the Greek Olympians and the Roman Gladiators, Noman sports are deadly on a scale far surpassing anything in the Hunger Games with a minimum of five million casualties per month. The challenges the Norman's face are nerve wracking but a required part of the social fabric as visiting Terrans learn.

The story here combines vigorous athletic challenges that are often deadly with interplanetary spies and telepathy. It is a clearly focused story that is hard to put down and quite compelling. Highly recommended.

A classic for a good reason

This is a shorter book than many published nowadays but still well worth the money (I paid Â2.99). I had read it several times in paperback but had not done so for a number of years. It feels really good to be able to revisit old favourites in kindle comfort. Set on a distant world in the future, it still asks and answers question relevant to living now.

J. T. McIntosh has the high honor in my life of being the author of the first book I ever read in one single sitting! I had never been able to do this in the past. Although I was not able to read this book of his in the same time frame I really did enjoy it. It held my interest and the story made you think.

Top Notch Fantastic Read

This is the second novel by McIntosh that I've read. This book develops like a Twilight Zone episode with an ordinary insurance salesman in a backward town living a seemingly rather ordinary life. That is, until something out of the ordinary happens.

Val doesn't quite get who the giants are or where they came from or why Miranda wears a pink dress that seems to tantalizingly appear and disappear. He's in the dark just as the readers are. The story slowly develops and the clues slowly appear.

Without giving too much away, it's difficult to talk about specifics. Just accept that the mysterious people and particularly the mysterious girl will eventually make sense and you will be rooting for Val to succeed before the end of the book.

Too quirky for me

I couldn't tell if this story was facetious or just purposely disjointed in order to match the odd characters who were trying to discover their collectively lost identities. I'm sure there's a moral to this story, but I couldn't stay with it long enough to find out what it was. It wasn't what I was looking for, and I can't even turn it in at a used book store for credit.

Beyond understanding

I am apparently not intelligent or sophisticated enough to understand the basis of this work. There is a great deal of rape, sex, and torture, which is not necessarily a reason to reject a book if it has meaning and/or support the plot. However, I I couldn't hang on long enough to understand the plot, or the theme, or the point or whatever. In addition it is boring.
