    Title: Film Making
Subtitle: Create a Feature Film on a Limited Budget
    Author: Nancy Thomas
    Narrator: Stephanie Quinn
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 3 hrs and 1 min
    Language: English
    Release date: 11-23-16
Publisher: World First RE Oladayo Okeniyi

Genres: Arts & Entertainment, TV & Film
    Publisher's Summary:
Have you ever wanted to make your own film? Is there a story you want to tell? You might even think that this is impossible. "Studios make films, not the little guy." This is probably what you tell yourself. Do you watch films with more than a casual eye? You probably want to know how they were able to get perfect lighting in your favorite scene, or how to write a professional screenplay. Do you watch Inside the Actor's Studio and hang on every word they say? My last question is, do sit in your seat at the movie when it's over watching the credits as everyone else files out the door?
I know you have dreamed about it, but have you ever seriously contemplated making your own film? Yes, Virginia, you too can make your own film, all on your own. If you have played with the idea of what it would be like to direct a film, then you have already made an imaginary plan. Why not make it a reality? What else are you doing with your time: going to work at the factory every day?
Are you thinking that filmmaking is only for studios and professionals? I believe that independent film has changed all the rules. Doors are opening all over for aspiring filmmakers. Why not give it a try - what do you have to lose?
With a little imagination and a lot of hard work you can do this, but you need the basics to get started. If you feel like you don't know where to start the process, I will show you.

I am disgusted. How this woman had the gall to pretend ...
This book is nothing but plagiarism. It steals directly, liberally and verbatim from Brett Griffins "directing a film." Not to mention the pitching bible, John Badhams book "on directing" and the book "how not to make a short film." To name a few... I am disgusted. How this woman had the gall to pretend to be a working professional, taking credit for other people's work and experiences is beyond me. There are literally passage where she relates experiences working on movies she's never been a part of. This woman is a hack.

Genres: Arts & Entertainment, TV & Film
    Publisher's Summary:
The complete uncensored history of the award-winning The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, as told by its correspondents, writers, and host.
For almost 17 years, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart brilliantly redefined the borders between television comedy, political satire, and opinionated news coverage. It launched the careers of some of today's most significant comedians, highlighted the hypocrisies of the powerful, and garnered 23 Emmys. Now the show's behind-the-scenes gags, controversies, and camaraderie are chronicled by the players themselves, from legendary host Jon Stewart to the star cast members and writers - including Samantha Bee, Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, Steve Carell, Lewis Black, Jessica Williams, John Hodgman, and Larry Wilmore - plus some of The Daily Show's most prominent guests and adversaries: John and Cindy McCain, Glenn Beck, Tucker Carlson, and many more.
This oral history takes the listener behind the curtain for all the show's highlights, from its origins as Comedy Central's underdog late-night program hosted by Craig Kilborn to Jon Stewart's long reign to Trevor Noah's succession, rising from a scrappy jester in the 24-hour political news cycle to become part of the beating heart of politics - a trusted source for not only comedy but also commentary, with a reputation for calling bullshit and an ability to effect real change in the world.
Through years of incisive election coverage, Jon Stewart's emotional monologue in the wake of 9/11, his infamous confrontation on Crossfire, passionate debates with President Obama and Hillary Clinton, feuds with Bill O'Reilly and Fox, the Indecisions, Mess O'Potamia, and provocative takes on Wall Street and racism, The Daily Show has been a cultural touchstone. Now, for the first time, the people behind the show's seminal moments come together to share their memories of the last-minute rewrites, improvisations, pranks, romances, blowups, and moments of Zen both on and off the set of one of America's most groundbreaking shows.
Full cast of narrators includes Ryan Vincent Anderson, Graham Halstead, Cheryl Smith, Christian Coulson, Tommy Harron, and Elece Green.

    Not narrated by the interviewees
This book is odd. Instead of using the audio from the interviews of the Daily Show staff, the interviews were written down and read by a cast of voice actors. This audio book is like listening to a weird Daily Show cover band.
Moreover, the voice actors don't always do a good job of communicating sarcasm, and names are frequently mispronounced. For example, Moe Rocca is constantly referred to as Moe Rowca.
The book itself is a great behind the scenes look, but the production of the audio books was bizarre.
    Weird choice for an audiobook
I eventually got used to the way this book was structured, but it was really hard to listen to it at first. The problem is that it is not one continuous narrative. It is a whole bunch of people, including John and Steven and every correspondent and writer and producer that has ever worked at the show.

It says unabridged but really just a snippet
Would you try another book from Francis Ford Coppola and/or Francis Ford Coppola and Joe Mantegna ?
Certainly Joe Mantegna. Coppola needs to stick to making wine and movies.
Would you be willing to try another book from Francis Ford Coppola? Why or why not?
Yes. He is one of the greats and The Godfather alone makes him a great director.
What about Francis Ford Coppola and Joe Mantegna s performance did you like?
Coppola OK. Mantegna has a great voice and is a professional unlike Coppola.
Did The Godfather Notebook inspire you to do anything?
It inspired me to buy the whole book.
    Any additional comments?
    Saying unabridged is deceptive.
    not enough!
what was included was excellent. However the exclusion of the films most important scene is extremely disappointing.
Pleasurable peek into the scriptwriting process
This short book by Coppola is about the writing of the script for the first Godfather movie. It stops short of the actual making of the film.
That's because, as Coppola tells us in the fascinating introduction, this nonfiction title is based on a notebook he created prior to writing the script. In the notebook, he divided the book by Mario Puzo into scenes. Then for each scene, he wrote down the core of that scene. What is this scene really about? He also looked at images that would be important to that scene and possible pitfalls to be aware of as writer/director. For example, not building up the happy mood that follows Don Corleone's homecoming from the hospital to contrast with the ensuing bad news about youngest son Michael.
Coppola reads the meaty introduction, detailing his history with the project and the script writing process, and then dictates a smattering of entries from his Godfather Notebook.

    Publisher's Summary:
When Anna Broinowski learned that fracking had invaded downtown Sydney, she had a brilliant idea: she would seek guidance for a kryptonite-powerful, anti-fracking movie from the world's greatest propaganda factory - apart from Hollywood. After two years of trying, she was allowed to make her case in Pyongyang and was granted full permission to film. She worked closely with the leading lights of North Korean cinema, even playing an American in a military thriller. Interviewing loyalists and defectors alike, Anna explored the society she encountered. She offers vivid, sometimes hilarious descriptions of bizarre disconnects and warm friendships in a world without advertisements or commercial culture. Her book, like the prize-winning documentary that resulted from her visit, is a thoughtful plea for better understanding.

    Publisher's Summary:
From the ashes of World War II, Rome was reborn as the epicenter of film, fashion, creative energy, tabloid media, and bold-faced libertinism that made "Italian" a global synonym for taste, style, and flair. A confluence of cultural contributions created a bright, burning moment in history: it was the heyday of fashion icons such as Pucci and Brioni. Rome's huge movie studio, Cinecitta, attracted a dizzying array of stars, from Charlton Heston, Gregory Peck, Audrey Hepburn, Ava Gardner, and Frank Sinatra to that stunning and combustible couple, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.
Fashionistas, exiles, moguls, and martyrs flocked to Rome hoping for a chance to experience and indulge in the glow of old money, new stars, fast cars, wanton libidos, and brazen news photographers. The scene was captured nowhere better than in Federico Fellini's masterpiece, La Dolce Vita, starring Marcello Mastroianni and the Swedish bombshell Anita Ekberg.
Gossipy, colorful, and richly informed, Dolce Vita Confidential re-creates Rome's stunning ascent with vivid and compelling tales of its glitterati and artists, down to every last outrageous detail of the city's magnificent transformation.

"Levy's spirited history is nothing less than a love letter to Rome's luxurious, sensational past." (Kirkus)

An interesting read about Italian cinema
I really enjoyed this book. I had seen several of the films covered but many years ago. The book puts these films and others, in the specific context of their time. I have decided to go back and view these films again. I withheld a fifth star because the author has a tendency to list names ad nauseam which slows down the story. The reader has an excellent Italian accent when saying names or sentences in Italian.
This book was written for someone like me
Sometimes you discover a book that you realize was written just for you. No one in my family or among my friends would like this book, but I loved it. I have always been obsessed with post-war Italian cinema... the greats like La Dolce Vita and Bicycle Thief, to name a few. This book has made these movies much richer to me because now I know the whole backstory to what was going on in Italy during the war and after. It's really a very fascinating story of how Italy got its groove back after the war. Not only is this book about the film industry there, but it discusses a lot about the advent of popular Italian fashion... everything from the creation of ski clothes to some of the major fashion houses. It's kind of crazy to see it starting just as regular people modeling clothes in their homes to rich American investors. I really found this book just fascinating and it has made La Dolce Vita and other of my favorite films so much richer. Thanks.

    Interesting point of view
Interesting way to look at "Game of Thrones". Have not read it completely but am enjoying the detail. Heard about the book on "Star Talk". Highly recommend if you are into Game of Thrones.
    Winter is Here!
Gave this as a gift. The person loved it!
Game of Thrones, Mythbusters, and the History Channel in one
This book is, in one, oversimplifying word, cool. It just is. It's Game of Thrones, Mythbusters, and the history channel. And it was absolutely fascinating.
With section titles like Sex and the Single Dragon, the essays are sharp, funny, and well put together. So many aspects of Game of Thrones, from dragons to sword making to walls of ice, broken down and investigated and "What If?"'ed.
The majority of the bookmarks I made in this were just for subjects I want to read more about. Some basic, like why have I never read about the Spanish Inquisition? How did I not know that the US government thought loading bats with napalm and flying them into enemy territory was a good idea? Where do I find out more information on Damascus steel? How do people find out stuff like this, I NEED MORE INFORMATION.
Each subject is exceptionally well researched. I'm tickled by the idea of all these scientists and professors being asked to give their opinions on wildfire, 700 foot walls of ice, and what dragons would really be like. And the fact that they did!
Not every subject was a success. The first chapter of the book focuses on dragons, and almost all of the information is focused around komodo dragons. Which are not even close to comparable, and this sets a really bad tone for the book. Luckily it picked up after that, but I wish she'd started with something else.
Also, I'm confused about the lack of an introduction. I realize I was reading an ARC, and I'm hoping the finished product will have an opening. Because it's a waste not to have a chapter telling your audience what they're about to get themselves into. I like intros far more than I do back-of-the-book blurbs.
I cannot stress enough that this book is so freaking cool. A must-have for any Game of Thrones fan, book readers and TV show watchers. There's something in here for everyone
    that's funny way".

Genres: Arts & Entertainment, TV & Film
    Publisher's Summary:
Twilight for the Gods: The Art and History of Film Editing is a passionate exploration of the important role played by editing in the process of filmmaking and a functional guide to using editing most effectively.
The book explains how an editor is, in many ways, responsible for the final rewriting of a script - and that editing is in reality a pictorial form of writing.
Filled with examples from well-known films, the book explores all aspects of film editing from the first flash of inspiration to the latest technological advances. Listeners will learn about the early history of editing, the impact of television, the influence of the French New Wave, and liquid editing. The book also discusses working with directors, making the first cut, and cutting room etiquette.
Written by an editor with 50 years of experience in the field, Twilight for the Gods is well suited to courses on media editing. The book is also an excellent listening selection for classes dealing with film history.

Experienced Hollywood editor writes thorough, readable history of editing
A good book like a well-edited film just flows along and carries you in its merrily rolling stream. Such is the case with Twilight for the Gods written by Jack Tucker, ACE. He has created the most up-to-date, thorough, readable history on editing that Iâve encountered. He packs its 116 pages with facts and concepts and works in anecdotes and true tales from the editing room that, like any good cut, push the story along and make it zing.
This book that deserves a wide audience of filmmakers, students, and film historians and history buffs. I hope the publisher will price it more reasonably so Jackâs achievement â born of many years of blood sweat, and tears in the cutting rooms and as a film editing lecturer â can reach the readership it should have.
    Five Stars
I enjoyed the many stories of working in the film industry. Enjoyable read.

    Publisher's Summary:
We've all heard that you learn more from failure than you do from success. Which means that all those hours spent watching crappy movies wasn't a waste of your precious and ever-dwindling life span; it was an education! And Better Living Through Bad Movies can show you how to extract the profound, life-affirming lessons from films like Battlefield Earth, Coyote Ugly, and Indecent Proposal.
In over 50 hilarious reviews, the authors show how you can use the worst movies ever made to improve your sex life (it involves cardboard cutouts and clog dancing), apocalypse-proof your home (using the following materials: John Travolta, Kevin Costner, Sylvester Stallone, and more Kevin Costner), and win omnipotence and a Happy Meal by solving Satan's Junior Jumble. You will also discover how to forge a love that will last a lifetime (by dating the moribund), use films like Batman and Robin and Star Wars: The Phantom Menace as grief counseling, and conquer the world using common fruit bats and dry cleaning fluid. And, most important of all, you'll learn Hollywood's Ultimate Secret: why Beaches and Armageddon are actually the exact same movie.

    Speaking of bad movies
Put this on the shelf next to the Pauline Kael. Not that Scott writes like Pauline, I just think that would be a good place for it . . .
Great read. Scott Clevenger has written a very funny look at some of the worst movies ever. He is a true public servant.
So good I bought it twice!
There is a hardcore subculture of people that just love, LOVE crappy movies and the people that make fun of them. I am a member of that subculture and I'm betting that if you're reading this review, you are too. We all know the big boys - MST3K (and their various spinoffs the Film Crew and Rifftrax). But there are a lot of talented amateurs out there, writing blogs and Facebook posts and making their family laugh their butts off. And then there is the inbetween - people who are talented, professional writers who also happen to love this crap. Scott and Sheri are, as a team, part of this group. They are wicked smart, mercilessly funny, and have a great sense of how movies that smell of failure can still tell us something about our culture. The brilliance of this book is that they manage to include both snark (about the movie itself and it's awfulness) and satire (in how they suggest we apply the horrible lessons of the movies to our lives) in equal measures. Both of the authors are unabashed liberals and take obvious pride in not-so-subtly comparing conservatives or conservative ideals to what we see in bad movies. If you're the kind of person that thinks our culture is slowly swirling down the drain (and not because they took Jesus out of the schools) but still revels in the dreck it produces, this is THE book for you!
Don't read this book while eating
I made that mistake several times. Well, it was worth the near-death experience of choking on my corn chips while laughing hysterically. It's great to finally have so many bad movie reviews together in one convenient package. Even though I actually liked some of the movies in this book, I'm willing to laugh at them too.

    too short
Awfully fun book, but it ends too soon. The making of the Princess Bride movie book was much better.
A great behind the scenes look at Young Frankenste
it doesn't hurt that Young Frankenstein is my favorite Mel Brooks movie and my favorite Gene Wilder movie, so it was easy to enjoy this book.
Heading about how the film was conceived, produced, and cast was interesting and fun to learn about.
There were lots of cast interviews, although the interviews were read by the same male and female narrations, which was only strange when I knew I was supposed to be listening to Gene Wilder, but it was someone else reading on his behalf, obviously. And that was fine, it just took some getting used to.
Wish I Could Have Been There
We smiled, laughed, giggled, and even guffawed. This little gem is short, but it contains some great insights and behind the scenes info that lets you feel like you're in on the jokes -- "Werewolf!" "Where wolf?" "There, wolf." "Werewolf." I remember sitting in the theater when this movie was released and laughing until my drink spurted out my nose. The jokes weren't elaborate, or particularly clever, but the delivery? Dead on.

Of the audiobook, creator Mark Frost says, "I am thrilled that both original cast members and new actors will be coming together on this project to bring this other aspect of the world of Twin Peaks to life."

Absolutely great for Peaks fans--but still, buy the book.
This audio book brought great energy to the story. However, because Frost's brilliant tale is so uniquely structured visually--it doesn't translate well to a stand-alone audio book experience. The printed book itself is a masterfully designed experience--the story is told through a patchwork of newspaper clippings, postcards, government reports, autopsy reports, letters of correspondence, excerpts from novels, and all of this fabulously crafted miscellany is carefully annotated by an FBI agent. This scattering of documents was meant to be experienced and explored visually! The annotations NEED to be visual. I tried listening to the audio book by itself first--the nature of the compiled and annotated dossier did not translate smoothly to an audio book experience. It was easy to loose track of the larger narrative. Something was missing. But the performances of the readers, actors, and author are fabulous and should be heard. I ended up buying the printed copy and read along and studied the visuals in the dossier-format while listening to the audio--it was a phenomenal way to experience it and I highly recommend doing it that way. So for my five-star review I'm taking into account the overall cumulative experience of folding in the printed copy to experience alongside the audio book.
Dives in and manages a vast amount

Amazingly is the fine detail and connection to the esoteric that rivals Foucault's pendulum, while keeping focused on the Twin Peaks story. Quite an accomplishment if not miraculous.
Geniusly leaving on a cliffhanger. Annoying yet necessary :D
    Must for Twin Peaks fans
If you are or were a fan of the series, this story will fascinate you.
Just what I needed until the new season
As a twin peaks fan, I always wondered about a lot of things. This book works as a kinda prologue to the original story. The only exception is that it also feels like it's in the present.
