    The reality
It's fascinating to hear the real detectives talk about what it is to be a homicide detective. Not the 'shoot 'em up, roll over the hood of the car, beat up the bad guy' version of most television dramas, but the inside the mind view the public never a gets to see.
    Podcast.

Great insight to what is Bosch the series

    Fascinating
Aa tv news correspondent working in an open space working atmosphere, collaborating with other reporters on the news of the day and the construction of the nightly broadcast, I was very interested in how an entertainment episode was invented...so much in common in many ways, but divided by truth and fiction, and the daily deadline of news and a completed product the must be aired, as compared to a final episode that must be finished by a disciplined team on time.
    great podcast
Loved this podcast. Extremely insightful and illuminating. If you love the show listen to this.
It's is background info that is awesome!
What made the experience of listening to Bosch Behind-the-Scenes Podcast: The Writers the most enjoyable?
Getting to know the concept development of the ones who shape the characters add a little more to getting to know the characters when I listen to or watch Harry production.
    Any additional comments?
If you are a Connelly fan/Harry fan.....the pod cast is a great way to pass some time and get a more inner sanctum look into the folks who make the stories come to life for the fans.
    Love the Podcast
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Fortunately I had not read either Echo Park or City of Bones before watching the series, so I didn't pick apart the enhancements in the story line. I enjoy hearing about the writing process especially about how a team of writers needs to pull out the personality of each character.
What about Tom Bernardo and full cast s performance did you like?
Tom Bernardo is a good interviewer, if not a little long-winded with his questions (haha). He let's the panel expand on their thoughts and interact with each other.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
    Lot's of laughing, no crying.
    Any additional comments?
When naming the podcasts, it would have been helpful to have the number in the title, preferably near the beginning. I can't tell when playing the audio on my iPod or in the car which one is next, and they don't automatically play in order.
    Loved this format and idea
. Quite interesting as to how to make a book into a reality and please all the readers who have their own view. I am happy to listen to "behind the scene" so I can enjoy the screen action

This is a great companion piece to the books and the series and an informative bridge between the two. I've read the series since the first three books were published and have the distinct pleasure of meeting the author. The first podcast is spoiler free and will introduce the listener to the world of Harry Bosch. I envy those who are only just starting to enter Michael Connelly's world!
What a gift for all Harry Bosch Fans!
I'm a long time listener to Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch series, and recently watched all the "Bosch" season 1 episodes in about a week. What a great series. Then, we get these podcasts "GIVEN" to us with behind the scenes. How lucky we are. I have listened to the first 2 and will listen to the other 4 starting tomorrow morning because I finished a "re-listen" of "City of Bones" today. I'm working my way through all the books. If you are a fan, you don't want to miss these podcasts. However, watch Season 1 before listening, then watch the Season again...we're going to soon.

Title: The Philosophy of Film Noir

    Narrator: Jack Chekijian
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 10 hrs and 17 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 02-05-15
    Publisher: University Press Audiobooks
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 18 votes
Genres: Arts & Entertainment, TV & Film
    Publisher's Summary:
Noir emerged as a prominent American film genre in the early 1940s, distinguishable by its use of unusual lighting, sinister plots, mysterious characters, and dark themes. From The Maltese Falcon (1941) to Touch of Evil (1958), films from this classic period reflect an atmosphere of corruption and social decay that attracted such accomplished directors as John Huston, Alfred Hitchcock, Billy Wilder, and Orson Welles. The Philosophy of Film Noir is the first volume to focus exclusively on the philosophical underpinnings of these iconic films. Opening with an examination of what constitutes noir cinema, the book interprets the philosophical elements consistently present in the films - themes such as moral ambiguity, reason versus passion, and pessimism. The contributors to the volume also argue that the essence and elements of noir have fundamentally influenced movies outside of the traditional noir period. Neo-noir films such as Pulp Fiction (1994), Fight Club (1999), and Memento (2000) have reintroduced the genre to a contemporary audience. As they assess the concepts present in individual films, the contributors also illuminate and explore the philosophical themes that surface in popular culture.
    Members Reviews:
Not bad for a "Publish or Perish" thesis
Presents as a compilation of views regarding the basic tenets behind the Film Noir movement. I never had considered these things very much, viewing the film interpretations as validation of the Hard Boiled Mysteries which I relish. These chapters shine a light on the darker corners of the post-war attitudes of screenwiters, directors, and other Hollywood visionaries of the time, as well as the How and Why of their choices of novels to memorialize. The concepts of neo-noir still escape me, even after learning from this tome, but I doubt that it is the fault of this book. If you have an affinity for Noir and/or Hard Boiled Mysteries, you will benefit from this presentation.
Narrator Jack does his usual professional best with this. Advisory: When utilizing an academic performed by Narrator Jack, you will find it best to overview at 1.5x speed first, then at normal speed with pen/paper at the ready. This is the perfect way to learn, as his normal rate for these is VERY conducive to appropriate note taking, and unlike class lectures, you can overview first to minimize redundant note-taking.
I am thankful for this gift.
The Philosophy of Film Noir and Pop Culture
I absolutely loved this audiobook and that would likely be because I love film noir. This was a wonderful overview and look at how it became popular. This is a gem for any movie buff who enjoys the genre. Even if film noir isn't someone's favorite genre, I think the philosophy itself is interesting in every way. Definitely recommended.
Jack Chekijian narrates this audiobook with style and it goes well with the book. He makes this a winning combination of author/narrator. He speaks clearly and is one of my favorite narrators.
Audiobook received in exchange for an honest review.
    It's about about the Noir....
I received this audio book in exchange for a honest and unbiased review. Noir became a genre back in the 1940's. This book discusses the genre, how it started & how it blossomed. This books discusses different titles, what the movies are about, plot twists some characters named, others not.

    Title: A Kim Jong-Il Production
Subtitle: The Extraordinary True Story of a Kidnapped Filmmaker, His Star Actress, and a Young Dictator's Rise to Power
    Author: Paul Fischer
    Narrator: Stephen Park
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 12 hrs and 26 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 02-03-15
    Publisher: Random House Audio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 298 votes
Genres: Arts & Entertainment, TV & Film
    Publisher's Summary:
Before becoming the world's most notorious dictator, Kim Jong-Il ran North Korea's Ministry for Propaganda and its film studios. Conceiving every movie made, he acted as producer and screenwriter. Despite this control, he was underwhelmed by the available talent and took drastic steps, ordering the kidnapping of Choi Eun-Hee (Madam Choi) - South Korea's most famous actress - and her ex-husband Shin Sang-Ok, the country's most famous filmmaker.
Madam Choi vanished first. When Shin went to Hong Kong to investigate, he was attacked and woke up wrapped in plastic sheeting aboard a ship bound for North Korea. Madam Choi lived in isolated luxury, allowed only to attend the Dear Leader's dinner parties. Shin, meanwhile, tried to escape, was sent to prison camp, and "re-educated". After four years he cracked, pledging loyalty. Reunited with Choi at the first party he attends, it is announced that the couple will remarry and act as the Dear Leader's film advisors. Together they made seven films, in the process gaining Kim Jong-Il's trust. While pretending to research a film in Vienna, they flee to the U.S. embassy and are swept to safety.
A nonfiction thriller packed with tension, passion, and politics, A Kim Jong-Il Production offers a rare glimpse into a secretive world, illuminating a fascinating chapter of North Korea's history that helps explain how it became the hermetically sealed, intensely stage-managed country it remains today.
    Members Reviews:
    Absolutely terrifying
The book is fascinating and well narrated, but I am shell-shocked. It's not just the heartbreaking story of Madame Choi and Shin Sang-Ok. Though I am appalled by the way their lives and those of so many others were so tidily snatched away by that despicable despot. My heart really goes out to the ordinary citizens who are held captive and controlled every day of their lives in that backward country. How can this stuff go on? Because you know it does. Excuse me while I go kiss the ground again.
    Read this book
Just an amazing book! For those (like me) who have a narrow understanding of Korea, this book is a great introduction to the lives of Choi Eun-Hee and Shin Sang-Ok. But interwoven into the story of "Madam Choi" and her husband are revealing peeks into the DPRK.
An eye-opening look at North Korea.
What made the experience of listening to A Kim Jong-Il Production the most enjoyable?
Learning information on North Korea I didn't know before.
What did you like best about this story?
    The overall plot
What does Stephen Park bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Excellent narration, even with no luck with different accents
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Many parts made me cry some, like Shin's wife's story.
    Any additional comments?
    None
    Very intriguing book. Loved it!
Other than some Korean pronunciation errors, I thought the narrator did a great job throughout the book. The non fiction story of the abduction of 60s 70s era famous Korean director and movie star, Shin Sang Ok and Choi Eun Hee, was engrossing with interesting background information regarding the North Korean Leader society and it's political/social tactics.

    Publisher: Audible Studios

Genres: Arts & Entertainment, TV & Film
    Publisher's Summary:
In the autumn of 1996, Joel and Ethan Coen were a few months from filming their seventh feature film, The Big Lebowski. Their sixth, Fargo, had been released that March to acclaim; awards would follow. Alex Belth, a 25-year-old aspiring filmmaker, landed a job as their personal assistant on Lebowski--and for the next year was the fly on the wall as the Coens created the movie that would become an enduring classic. First as their personal assistant and then as an assistant film editor, Belth observed everything from the preproduction work of location scouting, casting, and rehearsals all the way through filming and postproduction. Belth witnessed when Jeff Bridges and John Goodman met for the first time and rehearsed their iconic roles as The Dude and Walter; when a private screening was held for Alan Klein, the Rolling Stones' notorious former business manager; and long sessions with the Coen brothers in the editing room, as they tied their movie together.
The Dudes Abide is the first behind-the-scenes account of the making of a Coen Brothers movie and offers an intimate, firsthand narrative of the making of The Big Lebowski--including never-before-revealed details about the making of the film and insight into the inner workings of the Coen Brothers' genius.
    Members Reviews:
This book makes the movie even more fun
I love The Big Lebowski. This insider story of the making of the movie is fun in its own right & makes the move even more fun.
    Very Thin
More or less an intern's diary of his time working on the periphery of 'The Big Lebowski'. The most interesting bits from a filmmaking standpoint were some very brief recollections of an early script reading, and some occasional insights into the Coens' casting thought process. otherwise, there's really not much here...
I'm a film student and loved every minute of this!
If you're a young filmmaker trying to figure out what it's like to work with the big boys, then listen to this audiobook. Funny and downright honest, you'll be hard pressed to find a more realistic portrayal of the film making process.
    Dull and uninformative
What disappointed you about The Dudes Abide?
The author had only an outer fringe relationship with the Coens, mainly as a gofer for food etc. As a result, he can't tell you much that you didn't already know about the making of the Big L and the book consists mainly of polyfilla about other matters, such as the Coen's lunch preferences.
What could Alex Belth have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
He could have not bothered writing it.
How could the performance have been better?
    A different narrator
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
    Disappointed.
    Any additional comments?
Watch the movie again instead and save yourself some money.

Book is awesome, Audible is no help with the PDF
As others have mentioned, the PDF companion is referred to throughout the book and is a must have, but Audible doesn't have it posted and when I contacted their support they were less than helpful. Their answer is simply that "we don't have it". BUT there is a silver lining, you can get it by emailing "[email protected]", which begs the question why doesn't Audible simply do that and post it instead of giving their customers the runaround? Instead of me having to do a google search to find another source.
The movie is based on Science fact
What did you love best about The Science of Interstellar?
Even without having a background in science, when I watched Interstellar, based on what little I know, I knew that they were trying to keep it scientifically plausible, even the many of the things we are not able to do yet, and may not know as 100% truth yet. The thing that I loved about this book is that I was able to know what parts of the movie were actually "science fact," and there was actually more of that than I thought there would be.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Science of Interstellar?
Learning that not only speed and movement slow down time, but also that gravity slows down time was something that I did not know. The explanation of how gravity works has bugged me since I was a kid, learning about Newton's falling apple, and then I was just confused by Einstein's theories.
    Which scene was your favorite?
Talking about the genius of Einstein and how his theories couldn't even be tested when he came out with those theories, but they were RIGHT. They have been tested, and it is really a unique universe that we live in, that has attributes that we never really imagined, but the movie tries to convey.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
It's all based on real science!
    Any additional comments?
It's important to download the pdf file to get a good understanding of what the author is talking about. I couldn't download it, but sent an email to [email protected] and they sent it to me by email. I listened again after getting the pdf, and the concepts were that much easier to understand
Audible has now posted the PDF at the library
Audible has now posted the accompanying PDF at the Home for the book. I complained, they corrected the mistake.
