Liking the Series

The first novella in the series covered her background and the factors that made Villanelle who she was. In this one she finishes up one case and then focuses on the plans to assassinate a Russian leader and the efforts of Interpol to prevent it. Agent Eve Polastri is foreshadowed as the law enforcement equivalent of Villanelle and I suspect that future books will build on the rivalry between the Alpha females. This series could be a collection of weak cliches but thus far it has worked; I look forward to the next book.

you'll never see Gotham the same

This was an excellent short story collection. All of the MWA compilations are good but this one was excellent. there was only one short story I didn't care for and that was style. it was written well, but just want my cup of tea.

Interesting!

As with any grouping of short stories you don't love them all. I loved Nancy Pickard ''s story. She is a gifted story teller. I also really liked Margaret Marion' 's story. What a pleasure to read a story with that kind of twist. I, wasn't as fond of the stories set back in time but that is just my taste. Also loved the very last story. All in all an enjoyable read.

The stories were mostly ok, but there wasn't enough of them considering how much money they charge for the book. Over all, i am not satisfied.

These short stories have little of the mysterious to recommend them, but given who the editor was that didn't surprise me. What did surprise and disappoint me was that they had only a passing references to Manhattan locations. I had hoped for more.

I recommend this book !

I have read, or listened to (via Audio) three of Oliver Pötzsch's books. This is the shortest in length of all. The author is German and all of the books are translated from German. The translations of all are superb, but they are not 'fast' reads. I suspect that has an impact on the pace at which one can read these books in English. Unlike the Hangman's Daughter series, this book does not contain the main characters in those books. I HIGHLY recommend this book as well his other books. The author states that although his books are fiction, he has found most of the stories from researching the history of his city and region ! As he once confessed to his wife, he couldn't personally make up stuff as interesting... I recommend this book.

Another excellent Oliver Potsch story.

I love anything that Oliver Potsch writes. This short story was no exception. I like the fact that it takes place within an historical framework and features real people and places. He's a terrific writer.

A great holiday read!

I am used to reading those really long Poetzsch stories of Bavarian mysteries - this one was blessedly short and sweet! Love it! Someone needs to pick up on this character and make a series out of this! Cheers! Keep'em coming, Herr Poetzsch!

Fun

I love Potzsch's Hangman's Daughter series, so I thought I would give his short story a try. Although too short to be a complicated mystery, the author does a great job of capturing the religious fervor of the time. He adds the clues up in a Sherlock Holmes type manner and exposes the criminal. A fun bedtime read.

TOO SHORT..... BUT IT STILL GRABBED ME

This book slowly unfurled to tell the story of a 22 year old Lilly whose dream is to design Apps for Corteck the world's major Tech Company and she's got her Hons. Degree from MIT, has designed some already successful Apps but just can't catch a break with her career. She's been trying out Corteck's Dating App but unfortunately she's gotten a bit carried away when her online sexcapades has now crept into the real world so when a suited, handsome and charismatic man walks into the Bistro she's working in, with her panties and a nearly nude picture of her, she thought things were definitely looking up (well it had been a while!). Thinking it was her online date she flirted and made a few lude sexual innuendos but when her real online date turned up she became speechless because, to her utter shock and embarrassment, the first guy was non other than Clive Parker the CEO of Corteck and how could he ever look at her without seeing 'that' photo and take her business achievements seriously.

Determined to try to overcome the disastrous encounter Lilly makes plans.... which leads to rejection then euphoria quickly followed by high octane sexual chemistry, hot sex scenes, dirty talk and a heartbreaking past is revealed. Well it's a Brazilian classic, so what can I say.

A very enjoyable story that I listened to again; the actor also does a great job. Even though I didn't fully understand all the language, I'm going to buy the book then listen to this again.

Boring!

I was disappointed that there was not much to the stories. They do not keep your attention.

Okay, but a bit melodramatic

I like the gentleness of Amish books when I need to step back from a busy life. But I found these somewhat silly. There was compassion for the situations, but the stories did not ring as true as many others I have read. Many might like these, and they are worth a try. I found the push toward modern bottle feeding, and some other things did not ring true. I think the authors put too much of themselves and not quite enough of the culture in these stories.

The narrator was not bad, but I've liked others better. She has a warm voice so I think it's more apersonal choice.

Superb, Picturesque Stories in Wyoming & Montana

"Rock Springs" reminds me why I love realist short stories of unique people in faraway settings to experience .

In picturesque prose precisely crafting unique situations, Richard Ford explores turbulence in relationships and the human's restive consciousness, made all the more evident against Ford's halcyon landscapes, from the wide ranges of Wyoming to the highlands of Montana. Each story one of resolution or revelation, eliciting intumescent empathy.

The best set of short stories I've heard or read in a long time. Maybe ever.

Life in Tehran

Overall the short stories give a great insight in to the Noir Tehran and the daily lives of its people and how they live and cope with poverty, prostitution, crime or fear. However, I did not enjoy reading all the stories. Some of the pieces were very weak in describing the characters or the environment were the story took place. But from the 15 short stories I highly recommend reading the ones from: Vali Khalili, Majed Neisi, Salar Abdoh, Mahsa Mohebali, Hossein Abkenar and Gina Nahai.

Revealing the other side

Effectively shows the "other side", a side the leaders of Iran don't want anyone to see. The focus is, as the title implies, on Teheran only. There are seven states in Iran, and I would have liked to learn more about attitudes, culture and events in other states. Perhaps Tehran is the only city where these types of stories occur?

A Good Selection of Short Stories

This is a selection of short stories all set in Tehran. As you might expect from a 'Noir' the stories mostly portray the seamier side of Tehran. But most of the stories are well written and interesting.

This is a great collection of short stories from Iranian authors from Tehran. I enjoyed every story in the collection.
