Awesome, and HAS PICTURES!!

This artsy African folktale was a great favorite with my kids, but my grandson loves the experience of this Audible version even better than his Papa enjoyed hearing me read the paper book. Partly this is due to the inimitable performance by James Earl Jones, who rocks it so amazingly that even a childless adult would love it. But partly it's the PICTURES, the stunning, colorful, mosaic-style watercolor illustrations that accompany the original text and which here change automatically--whether you're listening on iPhone or iPad--as the story is read.

The only downside: a baby owl is killed accidentally early on in the story. That didn't bother my own oldest child, who took it in stride as a tragedy necessary to propel the plot, but my grandson was initially jarred by it. (He ended up loving the book anyway, though.)

Grade: A

Beautiful sounds

James Earl Jones's voice was made for story telling. Beautiful story about cause and affect. Even the background sounds, drums, etc. added to the storie's aura.

very cool follow up

this was a great follow-up to the first series I really wish they offered them just as the set all of the books in one single volume. but I do like the appearance of the old characters in the new series

good read, not so good listen.

really enjoyed the story, but as much as i love Andrew Macarthy, I didn't feel like his voice was suitable for this particular story. He did dona great job with the nixie's voice. I loved the story so much I endured. Bring back Mark Hamill.

Cute, Clever Followup to Spiderwick Chronicles

I do like 2 hour audiobooks since they are easily finished which leads to a sense of accomplishment. These are a followup to the original Spiderwick Chronicle 1-5. I thought the way we lead into these was rather cute and clever. In this book, kids who have the published field guide, encounter some fairy folk and become embroiled in trouble. In an attempt to come up with a solution they even try going to a book signing being done by the authors. It was just sort of cute how the authors become characters in the story about how their last story wasn't fiction at all. At the signing they meet Jared Grace, only to discover he is really Jared something else - his name having been changed for the "book". Of course, you could use this setup to create a zillion sequels, but I still thought it was cleverly done. I enjoyed the characters and liked the story well enough to at least go to part 2 (this has 3 parts).

Creepy

This book was not my cup of tea in AKA I don't really like it so over all cheers

Beautiful book with a valuable lesson for children

I love Patricia Polacco. Her illustrations are beautiful and held my interest as a child like no other.

Now that all my friends are starting to have children, I'm hoping to gift each child with a Polacco book.

Babushka Baba Yaga is my favorite because of the important lessons. Never judge people by how they look or the gossip that's going around town. It's an excellent story for children to remind them to keep an open mind, and not judge a book by its cover. It also stresses empathy--that's a big one. :)

Good values taught here!

A wonderful way to show that do not judge a book by its cover. This needs to be read by all kids with older relatives especially and all adult enamore with avarice and acquiring things. Wonderful values taught in this "children's story" that all adults should learn!

A classic, wonderful folk tale.

My kids loved this book so much that they checked it out from the library over and over again. We decided to get it because they still love reading it even though they're getting older. It's a great story about accepting others who are different and about judging others based on who they really are, not how they look or what you have heard about them.

I read this book to 5-6 year old for many years in school. It warms my heart to read it each time.

Fred Berman is a great sound artist

Fred Berman is among the best narrators for children's stories. My kids have listened to the six Ready Freddy stories over and over for more than my fingers and toes can count. They probably have memorized all the books already. Fred Berman is a genius in sound art. My kids keep asking me when Fred Berman is going to read more Ready Freddy stories? I hope the new ones are coming out soon. Fred Berman, we love you ;-)

I liked how that the story is good for young readers to stand up to bullies, and get exited about reading! It is a fun and funny audiobook to listen to, and a good book for reading. 5 stars for "Ready, Freddy"!

Mrs. Piggle Wiggle

I think that I liked at the end that the mayor himself came to the parade.

Also, I liked at the first chapter that the one more tv showers were cured when Mrs. Piggle Wiggle said that they can watch tv as muchbas they want.

Kids Love this Book

Where does The Velveteen Rabbit rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

I listened to this with my 6 year old in the car, and she was completely engaged in the story, and was asking for more when it was over. Great listen for a short family drive.

Enjoyed it

I can see how the book can appeal to people of all ages. I really enjoyed the talk with the horse and when the velveteen rabbit met the real rabbits.

A beautiful story

One that I remember from childhood. My 3yo niece says her favorite part is "when the boy loved the bunny."

I bought the velveteen rabbit and Riki ticky tavi for my 5 year old to fall asleep to and it works like a charm. She almost always chooses this one because she is afraid of the snake in Riki. James Mio has a relaxing voice. It's a sweet little story. The story works really well as an audio book for her age. I don't fell like we are missing out by not having pictures and it isn't too long for a 5 year old

I couldn't stop listening! I listened to it all in one day! I listened to all 6 books like, 120 times! Well, great book, for children, and adults i think. (My mom listened with me :) )

great story

I liked it a lot but it is very long but exciting to listen to

Editing Needed

Great performance of a classic story we love. One suggestion, the editing between chapters in the chapter titles, were so quick-there needs to be a pause. It sounded really terrible over and over, as this even happened a few times with the titles between stories too.
