Wonderful for children!
This is the tale of a classic. Everyone knows the story of the Tortoise and the Hare. The story starts out with the Hare always bragging that he is the fastest and he could beat anyone in a race. The rest of the animals, sick of the hare's bragging, go to the wise old owl to try and find a way to put the hare in his place. The owl says the only way to do so is for someone to beat him at his own game. Everyone wanted the Hare to stop bragging, but no one wanted to race him. They didn't want to be humiliated. The Tortoise was the only one willing. No one believe the Tortoise could do it, but decided to follow the Owl's advice. The Tortoise prepared for the race, eating a good supper, getting a good night's sleep, and eating a good breakfast. The hare stayed up late watching television. He felt overly confident in his abilities that he didn't need to prepare. The day of the race: The hare, being so fast, decided to stop and take a bite to eat since he was so far ahead. But when he saw the Tortoise coming, he quickly zoomed on ahead...the Tortoise kept a slow and steady pace. He didn't let the fact that the race looked hopeless slow him down at all. Later, the Hare stopped to rest his eyes and fell asleep. The Tortoise slowly crept by him being careful to be quiet. As the Tortoise nears the finish line, the crowd is so shocked and surprised that the cheers loudly erupt. This wakes up the Hare who makes a mad dash for the finish line. In the end, it's a close race with the Tortoise winning by sticking out his neck. This story teaches children diligence, preparation, and positive thinking! Very good book!
Never give up no matter how hopeless the situation may seem!
When all the forest animals see Harry Hare coming they groan! Harry is boastful because he thinks no one can beat him in a race. What can the animals do to stop Harry boasting? Does Mr. Wise Owl have the answer?
Who will race against Harry? No one wants to. They ask everyone except Teddy Tortoise but when left with no one else, he is asked and agrees to take on the challenge.
The biggest lesson we can learn from Teddy Tortoise? Don't be a quitter!
Harry Hare, so assured that he would win, went home and ate junk food and stayed up very late. Teddy Tortoise followed his dad's advice and ate healthily and went to bed early. To read what happens on race day, you will have to purchase the book.
This is a well-written, delightfully illustrated book of a classic tale. The colors are bright and the creatures are full of life.
