Jack joined the Global Protection Force for two reasons: to thwart evil around the world and to rescue his brother, Max, who went missing while working as a GPF agent. The GPF refused to share any details with Jack about Maxs whereabouts, but on two previous missions, Jack had collected clues that pointed to Max is being in Egypt. Now Jack has reason to believe that King Tuts diadem - a crown thought to have magical powers - is the cause of Maxs disappearance.
The crown was so important that King Tut was buried with it on his head, but when the boy-pharaohs tomb was opened in 1922, an assistant archaeologist named Omar Massri stole the artifact. Could a descendant of Massri somehow be involved in Maxs disappearance? Jack and his old friend Kate must prevent an ancient and terrible curse of the pharaohs from wreaking havoc, or else Egypt - and Jacks brother - could be doomed.

    Got my son reading
My son started reading these towards the end of 1st grade. He was reading slightly above grade level. After he finished the Magic Tree House series, nothing else interested him again until he found this at the school book fair. I read the first book and thought it was perfect for him. The second book introduces a little more violence and possibly objectionable stuff (guns and the "bad guy" being a lady, with image of her drawn very bodacious, etc.). I wish she had kept it a little more tame, but that said, it isn't that bad. There's worse out there, and very shortly they are into those books anyway. I love that the main character travels all over the world and the kids learn something about various places. Reminds me of Magic Tree house in that respect.
... is in first grade and has recently fallen in love with the Jack Stalwart books
My son is in first grade and has recently fallen in love with the Jack Stalwart books. These books have a super hero agent with lots of cool gadgets. He travels all over the globe. The stories are full of true, geographical information the reader about the areas that Jack travels to. We have started marking the places on our wall map and writing notes about the special things that happen there. These are great books!!!
    Five Stars
    My grandson loves the series.
    Five Stars
Great for our son! He loved it!
    this book is amazing
I personally think that this book is amazing. It is so awesome because it has risky situations but the main character gets out of the situations.

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 6 hrs and 57 mins

With no way into the house's magical paintings, and its three guardian cats reluctant to help, Olive's friend Morton is still trapped inside Elsewhere. So when Rutherford, the new oddball kid next door, mentions a grimoire - a spellbook - Olive feels a breathless tug of excitement. If she can find the McMartins' spellbook, maybe she can help Morton escape Elsewhere for good. Unless, that is, the book finds Olive first.
The house isn't the only one keeping secrets anymore. Mystery, magic, corruption, and betrayal abound (plus just enough laughs to take the edge off). You'll never guess what happens next in this thrilling, chilling second volume in the critically acclaimed series.

Great book.My kids love it.Looking forward to more
What did you love best about Spellbound: The Books of Elsewhere, Volume 2?
Creative, entertaining, scary, exciting, fun for my whole family.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Spellbound: The Books of Elsewhere, Volume 2?
When Olive almost gets stuck in the picture frame at the end but instead just allows the bad guy get away. Why didn't she start her on fire!!!
What does Lexy Fridell bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
An obnoxious voice. The book was great, but we didn't like the readers voice impersonations of the other authors.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No. It was just enjoyable as a whole, not really extreme emotion provoking.
Fantastic Listen for the whole family!
Another book that the family doesn't want to stop listening too in the car --- get the "awwww can't we drive around more dad?"
Fun series for all ages - we have two girls 10 and 8 - we eagerly await the 3rd book in the series... :)
    Attention Grabber for Kids
Where does Spellbound: The Books of Elsewhere, Volume 2 rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Excellent sequel to the original book. I couldn't wait to download the book and find out what happens. Listening to the audio really adds another dimension to reading the story. The narrator's voice draws you into the story!!!!!
Which character as performed by Lexy Fridell was your favorite?
The three cats - she captures their personalities to a T!
Ok kids fantasy, Didnt care for reader
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Hard to say. It was mildly interesting, though Olive's actions sometimes annoyed me. (I guess I should cut her a break since she is a kid, but still its hard to watch someone make bad decisions.) I was also hoping for more closure for Morton but if that's coming it will have to wait til a later book.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
The is book 2 of a series of (at least) 4. Readers should know that this is basically a cliffhanger. You clearly need to read more books to finish the story of Olive, Morton and the cats. I'll probably read the next one but am not in a rush to do it.
Would you be willing to try another one of Lexy Fridells performances?
I would but I really didn't like the voices she used for the characters.

    Publisher's Summary:
Do you need something? Mac can get it for you. It's what he doeshe and his best friend and business manager, Vince. Their methods might sometimes run afoul of the law, or at least the school code of conduct, but if you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can pay him, Mac is on your side. His office is located in the East Wing boys' bathroom, fourth stall from the high window. And business is booming.
Or at least it was, until one particular Monday. It starts with a third grader in need of protection. And before this ordeal is over, it's going to involve a legendary high-school crime boss named Staples, an intramural gambling ring, a graffiti ninja, the nine most dangerous bullies in school, and the first Chicago Cubs World Series game in almost 70 years. And that's just the beginning. Mac and Vince soon realize that the trouble with solving everyone else's problems is that there's no one left to solve yours.
    Members Reviews:
Mob lives in the lives of children.
What did you love best about The Fourth Stall?
I loved the language used to make the story seem like a mob lifestyle. I felt like I was listening to a cartoon happening with a mix of mild violence.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Fourth Stall?
I think the most memorable part for me was when Mac and Vince got into a quarrel about the money they were saving. This scene was very relatable, especially when you are in a situation where you cannot understand everything that is happening with your friend.
    Which scene was your favorite?
I loved the scene where Mac brought in all of the bullies to create an alliance. You got a sense of who everyone was and why they were a bully in the school. It was easy to relate at least one of the bully characters to a bully I have had in the past. The author showed how they were also human as well rather than portraying them as "the enemy".
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
It would probably one of Vince's grandma quotes. There were so many it is hard for me to pick one.
    Any additional comments?
This book is great for adults and teenagers. It has comedy, empathy, and a world beyond what you remember of the playground.
Funny, Suspenseful and Full of Heart!
What made the experience of listening to The Fourth Stall the most enjoyable?
Actor Mike Rylander, brother of author Chris, is full of voices, which is great because Chris's book is packed with crazy, quirky, compelling characters. I especially liked Mike Rylander's characterization of the girl characters in the book.
What did you like best about this story?
Chris Rylander has written the perfect book for boys who don't like to read fantasy. "The Fourth Stall" is a mystery, a comedy and an action story all-in-one. The story is layered and complex, as are the relationships between the main characters, Mac and Vince. One of the best books I've read/listened to in a long time. This is a book that the whole family can enjoy listening to.
    Best book I've read!!!!!
Amazing book I would really recommend it it's a funny book with a serious stories and I am 12 years old and I think a little boy my age would really enjoy a book and get into reading if they read this book
    Good middle school book.
Fun and suspenseful for middle school readers. An adult approach to reading will appeal to this age group.
    Overall decently well done
    I loved the story.

Isn't it?
    Members Reviews:
    Another Terry Pratchett delight
I always enjoy Terry Pratchett so it is no surprise that I enjoyed this one very much. I love how his thought process turns things sideways. My only complaint was the length - too short! Share this with your video games obsessed teenagers. :)
Toy story for the digital age!
What did you love best about Only You Can Save Mankind?
This story does for digital gaming what Woody and Buzz Lightyear did for toys. It is a real mind bender to think that the things that are killed in video games are really dying some where. Do we take killing too much for granted in the electronic age???.
What about Richard Mitchleys performance did you like?
His voice made listening easy and did not detract from the story.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    yes.
    What is Real?
A fun little MG Paranormal SF that may require some explanation of history.
    BOOK DETAILS:
Only You Can Save Mankind by Terry Pratchett, read by Richard Mitchley, published by Random House Audio (2011) / Length: 4 hrs 11 min (this is the Unabridged version)
    SERIES INFO:
This is Book #1 of the "Johnny Maxwell" trilogy. All of them are available on audio.
    SUMMARY:
Like most Pratchett book, this one is a pleasure to read for people who love interesting characters.
Note: It takes place during the first Gulf War; so you might need to explain who "Stormin' Norman" is, and other such things, to children who are going to read it. It isn't absolutely necessary though. The book has some interesting commentary on how the war is just another "show" to kids who have grown up with lots of different screens in their lives, and yet they can't help but be affected by it.
    CHARACTERS:
Johnny: On the surface, he's an absolutely normal tween kid in a home that is breaking up. And yet this is just the first of the weird things that end up happening to him. He isn't sure if he's crazy or this is real, or even what "real" is. I think his character can be summed up by the fact that he's the only one who listened and was willing to answer.
Kirsty: She's used to being the best at everything she does. But she also expects things to be the way they "should" be. Her character can be summed up by saying that Sigourney Weaver is her hero.
There is a fun cast of quirky supporting characters that includes Johnny's 3 best friends (this is definitely the "left-overs" clique) and the Scree Wee captain.
    WORLDBUILDING:
This is Gulf War era small-town England. And it is video game space ship interiors. One of the best bits of worldbuilding is the way Johnny's fighter comes with all sorts of smells, sounds, and tastes he didn't expect when he is "in" the game. Real life (even a virtual version) just has so many additional dimensions.
    PLOT:
It starts with Johnny having died 6 times already (and it isn't even 5 o'clock).

Length: 2 hrs and 10 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 01-20-11
    Publisher: Brilliance Audio
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 19 votes
    Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10
    Publisher's Summary:
Gary Paulsens slapstick tales capture the wonderful madness of growing up in a small town in northern Minnesota, when high spirits, showing off for girls, and general idiocy led Gary and his pals to attempt some amazing stunts, including:
Wacky, daring, just plain nuts - extreme sports lead to extreme fun in new stories from Garys boyhood.
    Members Reviews:
    So funny!
Where does How Angel Peterson Got His Name rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Not my favorite but pretty close!
What did you like best about this story?
    The dry, intelligent humor
What does Patrick Lawlor bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
He brought a little extra tone and helped bring the characters to life in the imagination.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Please don't try what you are about to see at home!
Not a book I would recommend.
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The narration was fine; the story line was not appropriate for a 9 year old.
What could Gary Paulsen have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I don't think it should be titled extreme sports. It makes the book seem like it is about adults in the world of extreme sports. Instead it is about children doing dangerous stunts and living to tell about it.
    Any additional comments?
Perhaps I misunderstood who the audience should be for this book. It refers to a young man who has a calendar of naked women; how they idolized a boy who smoked; and the whole point of the book is to explain all the dangerous things these boys did and how they miraculously lived through it. It seemed more appropriate for old men who wanted reminisce about their childhoods.

    One Heck of an Ending!
What made the experience of listening to The Final Storm the most enjoyable?
It was right on with the first two. Hearing all the voices really brought together for me.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Again, all of them due to their roles that they played.
Have you listened to any of Wayne Thomas Batsons other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes I have. He did another great job in helping me to see the characters more clearly and hear where he was coming from with them.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Yes!
    Any additional comments?
The entire Door Within Trilogy spans across all age groups. The Final Storm brought everything together and left nothing out. It was fantastic!!!
    Third Times the Charm
"Never Alone!" This final book of the Door Within trilogy has a definite hint of the Chronicles of Narnia: The Last Battle, but it is more of a salute than a copy. I enjoyed this story greatly. It has elements of suspense, adventure, truth and power. I think it is a "must read" for any young persons who have already enjoyed the C.S. Lewis stories. But, definitely start at the beginning.
