Title: Mary Poppins in the Park
Subtitle: The Mary Poppins Series, Book 4
    Author: P. L. Travers
    Narrator: Rosalyn Landor
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 5 hrs and 36 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 12-30-13
    Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc.

    Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10
    Publisher's Summary:
From the moment Mary Poppins arrives at Number Seventeen Cherry-Tree Lane, everyday life at the Banks house is forever changed. This classic series tells the story of the world's most beloved nanny, who brings enchantment and excitement with her everywhere she goes.
Only the incomparable Mary Poppins can lead the Banks children on one marvelous adventure after another. Together they meet the Goose girl and the Swineherd, argue with talking cats on a distant planet, make the acquaintance of the folks who live under dandelions, and celebrate a birthday by dancing with their own shadows. And that's just for starters!

    so delightful
this book is absolutely charming and the narrator's performance is amazing.! I love to listen to this book at bedtime with a sleep timer.
More stories from the famous nanny
Mary Poppins is an acquired taste. She is very superior, vain, and will make children question what they know to be real. She is also a person who dearly loves her charges. It's an odd combination. She is magical in many ways, no question. But would you want to deal with her as an adult, maybe not. Children will probably enjoy these stories and accept that Mary, as an adult, will not always tell them the absolute truth all the time. As an adult reading these, (to say that I have and see what the fuss was about), I found her more than a bit annoying.
This volume in the series is a series of vignettes without a specific beginning or end like the previous volumes. The only consistent points are Mary Poppins, The children, and that they all take place in the park on Cherry Tree Lane.
If you like the series, you will like this.

    Superb job and suspense
The book starts out a little slow but speeds up after a couple of chapters after their mom gets kidnapped. Most of the suspense is in a wonderland R.V. Park where the two kids meet some friends and explore the shut down park with great anticipation. As the story gets to the last few chapters the kids get chased through the park by a couple of men who kidnapped their mom. Using their skills from exploring the park with their two friends they try to outwit the two men. The author has a lot of suspense through the chase that will keep you reading until the end. Other than a few family problems most people will okay this book. I would recommend this book to the 11-14 year old age group.
    Scared Stiff
In this book, Rick, the main characters are an eleven year old boy and his younger brother Kenny who is seven. Teh boys'father is a truck driver who's load gets stolen one night. The mother asks the father if he had anything to do with it. The two dults get into a fight and the father leaves. The parents were not "divorced" the dad just left. Neighter parent filed for a divorce, and at the end the boy hopes that the father will come back home. The mother discovers much information about the case and is kidnapped so she will not tell. The kid-nappers try to capture her two sons so she will tell them what she knows. THe boys' friends, Connie and Julie, help them solve the mystery and escape from the kid-nappers. I am thirteen and I enjoyed this book thoroughly. It was very exciting and suspensful. I have read one other of Willo Davis Robert's books and found it equally exciting. She is a very creative writer and her books deserve 5 stars for mystery, adventure, and action in my opinion.

A nice patch to fill a gap in my knowledge
I like this short format. I often need a quick brushing-up on some era in history, preparing to teach, but I can't spare 18 hours to hear some disciplined work that captures deeper detail. Considering I live in former Spanish and then Mexican lands, captured by war from Mexico shortly before California statehood, my knowledge of this was slight. I intend to get more titles in this series.
    Great Overview of Texan/Mexican Territories
Would you consider the audio edition of Hispanic America, Texas, and the Mexican War: 1835 - 1850 to be better than the print version?
Yes. The narrator is clear, concise and strong.
    Any additional comments?
Quick moving, to the point and easy to follow. I recommend for anyone wanting to get a clear overview and understanding of the conflicts that went on during this historical development of lands in the U.S. and Mexico.

    Wonderful!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
To all my friends with kids - yes. Great story for children and parents.
Who was your favorite character and why?
    The boy.
What does Kevin Killavey bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Great reading. My kids loved the voices he used for the various animals.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Laughed quite a bit...all of us did.
    Any additional comments?
Was really surprised at the one review trashing the narrator. We thought he was great.
I would suggest you listen to the sample and decide for yourself.
    A family favorite
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
It's an absurd little story book but one I remember fondly from childhood, a different recording on cassette was my first ever audiobook! This one is good too, the weird tale holds up for kids today
Appalling performance of a good story
Would you try another book from Ruth Stiles Gannett and/or Kevin Killavey?
I would read another Ruth Stiles Gannett book, but I would avoid any children's books performed by Killavey.
My Father's Dragon is one of my daughter's favorite chapter books. I downloaded the audiobook so she could enjoy listening to the book at her leisure. Although I loved reading this book aloud to my daughter, I couldn't stand listening to Killavey's performance. It was snooze-worthy.
What was one of the most memorable moments of My Father's Dragon?
My daughter loves the animals and their quirky ways. Her favorite part is when the lion puts ribbons in his mane.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Killavey removed all excitement, magic and character from the story
    Any additional comments?
It's a fun story, but don't download this performance of it.

    Omg lovedddd itttt
Omg I love this book series. I mean I liked just reading the book as a book but I love how kindle gives you offered highlights I mean who doesn't love it. This book had all the right stuff I mean they had Aluna, the brave and fearless one who had set up a wall to avoid pain but it finally wavers, Dash, the charming noble guy who teaches them all what it means to have honor, Hoku, the ingeniused tech wiz who gets so caught up in his work but somehow finds time to love his friends and forgiveness mistake, Calli, the winged girl who shades them with praise and in my opinion likes Hoku but she's confused with why he hasn't taken another step so she results to jealousy, and my favorite Tal, the girl who from the start stole my heart because I relate to her with her wall that only she can break down and the feeling of being an outcast and wanting to come off as unapproachable to shield herself but opens up to Aluna when she feels her pain. So if you were thinking about maybe getting this book I hope that my review has held you come to a conclusion.
    -with regards and love Hailey
The Amazing World of Jenn Reese
There are a lot of wonderful books out there, but very few that are meant for all ages that can satisfy them all.
In Above World, Jenn Reese created a world where people had been modified to live underwater, in the skies with wings, or in the high desert as half-human/half-horse. Now, she has added half-human/half-snake. But it's not the concept of physically changing people so they can live wherever they need to that's so fascinating, it's their individual cultures and their peoples. Here, her heroine, the originally underwater dwelling Aluna, along with her best friend Hoku, continue to fight Karl Strand who seeks to enslave everyone by "upgrading" them -- adding technology onto their very bodies. Aluna is a great character -- a valiant warrior, a leader, a loving friend, and she is also becoming both a woman and a mermaid. But, in this book the biggest growth is not that of her accepting her tail and learning to become a better fighter with it, it is her beginning to accept that she cannot always be in charge -- and that her friends love her for being Aluna, not just the strong warrior and leader she is. The other main characters from Above World -- Hoku, Calli, and Dash -- are fully realized as are the new characters, Tayan, Tal, Rollon, Scorch, Nathif, and many more.

Perfect for reading to grandkids on Skype
This book met all my expectations. It is a chapter book suitable for a five-year-old girl and a seven-year-old boy. The values that it illustrates are very appropriate as they show the importance of persistance, caring for others, and ingenuity. We have only read about 25 percent of this book, and I am hoping to read another "20 minutes" this evening after their dinner. My daughter calls me when they are ready for bed, and "grandma" reads them their before bed story. I have become very close to both of them because of this tradition. I have read other books to them over Skype, such as THE TALE OF DESPARAUX, and I will continue this process as long as they are interested.
    A cherished find - after a 20 year search
Found this book just recently after twenty years searching - not knowing the author or remembering the title- only asking about the story- - I had read this story to my Son when he was 8- reviewed it for the teacher - it stood apart-it was really a WOW. When my son had children I wanted to find that book - then while I was going through saved items from his childhood I found the book report. There it was, Abel's Island - like finding a lost wedding ring! I've sent the books to my Grandchildren, with my message included- ( thank you Amazon)- and I look forward to read it again and again. Now learning the history of William Steig - I am in awe of this man and thankful for his contributions.
    Five Stars
    great book
    Five Stars
My 4 year old and 6 year old LOVE this book!
    A truly wonderful book
As a child, the first "book" I remember reading was Steig's "Dominic." When I re-found and re-read the book years later, I realized just how beautiful the story was and decided to buy more of his works. I picked Abel's Island randomly, knowing nothing about the story.
It is perhaps even more beautiful than "Dominic" was. Good enough to make this reader cry a bit (in joy) at the end. The story is about Abel, a distinguished mouse, who gets swept away in a flood and marooned on an island while trying to fetch a scarf that flew off his beloved wife's neck. After a few failed attempts to escape the island, Abel is forced to rely on himself to survive until he can figure out how to get back to his family.
