Alice always thought fairy tales had happy endings. That - along with everything else - changed the day she met her first fairy.

When Alice's father goes down in a shipwreck, she is sent to live with her uncle Geryon - an uncle she's never heard of and knows nothing about. He lives in an enormous manor with a massive library that is off-limits to Alice. But then she meets a talking cat. And even for a rule-follower, when a talking cat sneaks you into a forbidden library and introduces you to an arrogant boy who dares you to open a book, it's hard to resist. Especially if you're a reader to begin with. Soon Alice finds herself INSIDE the book, and the only way out is to defeat the creature imprisoned within.

It seems her uncle is more than he says he is. But then so is Alice.

My Kids Loved It

They immediately asked why it had to end and were thrilled when I told them there is a second book.

Confusing

it was ok but nothing very exciting happened. Some parts were good but most of it was crap.

Forbidden Library #1

good story. It took me awhile to get thru it listening at night.

The narrator fid a nice job. I will get the next book.

Prisoners in library books!

Interesting creatures and "library books". Wish there was someone to trust for the main character...maybe there is and she just doesn't know it yet. Sure there should be a sequel.

My 4 year old daughter as I listened to this on our commute to and from school and then in the way to the cabin! She loved it and could wait to get in the car to listen! Made the long ride so much more enjoyable! The story was fun, entertaining and silly. We love the Monster Inc. and Monster University movies so this was a huge hit! Got to love friendly monsters!!

12-year-old Charlie is a fantasy football guru. He may be just a bench warmer for his school's football team, but when it comes to knowing and loving the game, he's first-string. He even becomes a celebrity when his podcast gets noticed by a sports radio host, who plays Charlie's fantasy picks for all of Los Angeles to hear. Soon Charlie befriends the elderly owner of the L.A. Bulldogs - a fictional NFL team - and convinces him to take a chance on an aging quarterback. After that, watch out...it's press conferences and national fame as Charlie becomes a media curiosity and source of conflict for the Bulldogs general manager, whose job Charlie seems to have taken. It's all a bit much for a kid just trying to stay on top of his grades and maintain his friendship with his verbal sparring partner, Anna.

A magical new series from Pseudonymous Bosh, the best-selling author of the Secret Series

Magic is BAD.

As in fake. Cheesy. Unreal. At least, that's what Clay, who has seen one magic show too many, thinks.

When words from his journal appear mysteriously on his school wall as graffiti, he never imagines that magic might be to blame. And when the same graffiti lands him at Earth Ranch, a camp for "troubled" kids on a remote volcanic island, magic is the last thing he expects to find there.

But at Earth Ranch, there is one strange surprise after another, until Clay no longer knows what to expect. Is he really talking to a llama? Did he really see a ghost? What is the scary secret hidden in the abandoned library? The only thing he knows for sure is that behind the clouds of vog (volcanic smog), nothing is as it seems. Can he solve the riddle of Earth Ranch before trouble erupts?

Elusive author Pseudonymous Bosch introduces an extraordinary new series that will have you believing in the unbelievable.

Five Stars

My 9yo daughter loves this whole series!

Pseudonomous does it again!

Good follow on (not a sequel) to the "secret" series. My 10 year old loves to read it together.

Bad Magic

I liked this book because it felt like the sequel to the fifth secret series book. I love all of Pseudonymous Bosch's books and I can't wait to download his next one!!!

Uh-Maze-ing!

Pseudonymous Bosch is my favorite writer of all time. He's the author of the secret series, and if you haven't read those, then I don't suggest reading this book until you have.

Four Stars

Very good, although I do prefer the Secret series.

good

O thik it was very very very good for me and others.I think please read

Kids love it. We love it

Forget the Hollywood version. This is a great story read totally engagingly by Chris O'Dowd.

Fantastic Fantastic Fantastic

What more can be said of the mesmerising amazing magic he weaves! Fantastic Mr Dahl!

simply fantastic

a nice story for the family and a personal favorite of mine. I'm glad I bought it.

Fantastic Storytelling!

This is another really enjoyable story from Roald Dahl that I read when I was at school (many years ago), but have revisited now via an audio book.

Dahl is a master storyteller, and this is up there with his other classic children's titles. There are moments of great humour and excitement as Mr Fox does battle with the three mean farmers who are after him and his family.

Narration by Chris O'Dowd was also entertaining. Highly recommended for those young and those wishing to revisit their youth.

Wonderful audio rendition of the book!!

Excellent storyteller! My son absolute loved it! Dramatic and highly entertaining, it was captivating all throughout.

Perfect Fiction

Roald dahl always inspires me with his awesome writings. Its wonderful because i got it for free!!

Really good to listen to

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would defiantly recommend this. its perfect to listen to on long journeys, and reminds you of your childhood with Dahl.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Witches?

When the cook chops off the end of the tail of the young boy who is now a mouse.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

when the boy told his grandma that he was happy that he wouldn't have a long life as a mouse because he didn't want to live without her.

Any additional comments?

If you want something to listen to that's nice and easy this is it. I would say that sometimes Miranda voice is hard to understand when she is the high grand witch but besides that its brilliant.

great

Great book!!! I can imagine it happening.

It is very ,very well written.

I loved it.

Terrible grand high witch

Love this story we decided to listen to on a recent car journey. Had to turn it off in the end due to the incomprehensible shouting voice of the grand high witch.
