Philippa Fisher and the Fairies Promise
I loved the book "Philippa Fisher and the Fairies Promise". It was a little sad but very, very exciting and thrilling to me. I loved this book and rate this book five stars because I love all the Emily Windsnap books I have read so far in the series, and the Philippa Fisher books are by the same author. The book is about Philippa Fisher going on a winter vacation with her parents to see her friend, Robyn, but along with accidentally going to ATC, Above The Clouds, with her fairy godsister, Daisy, Philippa and Daisy have to go on an assignment from ATC to bring back a twelve year old boy named Tommy, and a stone fairy named Amber before midnight on new years eve because that's when the new moon raises, otherwise their world as they know it won't exist if they fail their task to retrieve the stone fairy. So they must act fast to succeed!

We loved The Emily Windsnap series so we gave Philippa a try. This series is just as reader friendly and fun as The Emily Windsnap series (which if you haven't read yet, then you are missing out). They make my daughter want to read more which is a sure sign that you have a good book. I read them with her and as a parent that reading with her daughter I looked forward to reading time as much as she did.

    Simple, Good Story
This is a nice "who done it" with a touch of teenage romance. I liked it but I am not in LOVE with. It's good but not great.
    Wonderful Family Thriller
What did you love best about Rip Tide?
It was appealing to the entire family age 10-43!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
We listened as a family on car trip. So yes.
    Any additional comments?
"How much longer" got replaced by "Start the book back or don't stop". It was great! The adults enjoyed it as well as the kids!
    Loved every minute of it
Another great book by Kat Falls. Rip Tide started out running and never slowed down. I loved Dark Life and this sequel did not disappoint. Keith Nobbs is an excellent narrator. He actually sounds like the 15 year old main character. I like that he can read all the different characters without having to make weird voices. Some male narrators cannot do girl voices. Nobbs didn't try to do a girl's voice for Jemma, thank goodness. He just read the part and it sounded right. I suspect there will be a third book in the series. I'm looking forward to it.

    Enjoyable kid's listen
Spending a lot of time listening to the Sunshine State Books (2012-13) of which this is one. Those folks who picked the 15 books did an outstanding job as I have yet to hear one that wasn't worth the effort. And listening to these kid's books provides a healthy alternative to the mystery/thrillers that take up most of my listening time. It's worth the time to find out what Owen Jester's fantastic secret is.

I loved the first book so much I bought the 2nd immediately after the ending (I didn't even know this was apart of a series, I just found this book somewhere & started reading) the 2nd I would say is a bit slower (this one) but it explains much more. There were only 3 at most instances of "crossing over" so it didn't get as detailed as the first book I felt, which I think I needed after having read the first one because there was so much explaination & detail but I understand why the book needed that. Novel picks up right where the first left off. I finished this in a day it was so consumimg
This book is meant for introductions
I like this entire series but I have to say this one is my least favorite (which is not to say I didn't enjoy it) out of the 6 books.
Of course, this book is absolutely crucial as it introduces you to the main antagonist (Taksidian) as well as the man who holds the answers to everything.
The reason I didn't enjoy it as much is because it was an introductions book. It opened the door for a lot of questions but didn't actually hold any answers. For example, you learn who the 'bad guy' is, where he comes from, what he was...but you never learn his purpose for being at the King's house and why he wants the house so badly. He does bad things to the King's to try and kick him out but I spent the whole book wondering why he was doing what he was doing, I knew he was bad, but he didn't seem to have a purpose. It also doesn't really explain how he got to be so powerful. You could assume it was from the portals...but how...and how did he learn English? Of course, most of these questions (and many more that are raised from this book) are answered later on in the books but that means that this book is not able to be a stand-alone book (of course, all these books are cliffhangers anyhow so really none of them are...but this one...even less so).
I appreciate a series that has books that connect with one another, painting a complete story...however, I also like it when each book can actually exist as a book in and of itself.

    Publisher's Summary:
Nine years after Mibs's Savvy journey, her cousin Ledge has just turned 13.... But Ledger Kale's savvy is a total dud - all he does is make little things fall apart. So his parents decide it's safe to head to Wyoming, where it's soon revealed that Ledge's savvy is much more powerful than anyone thought. Worse, his savvy disaster has an outside witness: Sarah Jane Cabot, reporter wannabe and daughter of the local banker.
Just like that, Ledge's beloved normal life is over. Now he has to keep Sarah from turning family secrets into headlines, stop her father from foreclosing on Uncle Autry's ranch, and scumble his savvy into control so that, someday, he can go home.
Starring a cast both fresh and familiar, Scumble brilliantly melds Ingrid Law's signature heart and humor with the legendary Wild West.
    Members Reviews:
Fun and excellently presented tale for tweens
What made the experience of listening to Scumble the most enjoyable?
My tween daughter loved it and I enjoyed it as well. Well performed and excellently written fun story that kids can relate to.
Ingrid Law makes the unbelievable feel real
Where does Scumble rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Not quite the caliber of Hunger Games or Harry Potter, but enjoyable never the less. Safe for any reader. On par with books like the Redwall series or the Underland Chronicles (yet without the violence).
What did you like best about this story?
I like how important family is to the characters, and regardless of the amazing abilities they have, they seem to have to deal with the same sorts of things everyone else does.
    Which scene was your favorite?
When they all came together in the end to defend the ranch.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When the little girls offered the man trying to bulldoze their home all their "gold"
    Any additional comments?
I think this book was about equal to its predecessor, "Savvy."
    Terrific fantastic!
Would you listen to Scumble again? Why?
Great rendition of a fantastic story! The whole family loved it. Will look for more from this author
    narrator not so good
I enjoyed reading Savvy and decided to listen to the audio version of Scumble. However, I just had to buy the print version of this book to complete it because I found the audio a bit difficult to listen to. I'm sure the narrator meant well, but the pitch and tone of his reading was not at all to my taste. It felt forced and overacted.

Love the books hate the formatting.
First off I love the Encyclopedia Brown series. Read them constantly when I was a kid. What is great about the series is that you can get any book in the series and you don't loose out by not reading the ones before or after. Second of all you can use these to help your budding logic puzzler kids or as fun ways to teach them how to approach a problem logically.
So why the two stars? Well the formatting sucks, it sucks worst than a Kirby Vacuum that has been souped up Tool Time Style. There is no hyperlink to the solutions page. There is no chapter listing for the solutions page either, so it makes it hard to navigate the book. The worst the way the formatting was done at times you are presented a page that has just a title, or a picture or even just a caption to a picture then you scroll to the next page of text. I have seen free kindle and home publishing kindle books better formatted than this book. Bought the next in the series and it only gets downhill from there. You would think that Penguin Publishing would know how to do this.
Love the books hate the formatting.
Encyclopedia Brown books are the best fun for a kid looking to exercise some brain power. Good logic puzzles.
The thing that sucks is the formatting for the books sucks. From no hyperlinked solutions to the way page breaks are happening so that one can get a picture, a caption to a picture or even just the border to the start of a story for a page or two. Let alone the solutions aren't even listed in the table of contents. You have to scroll through the last story or click on the end and scroll backwards. It sucks and should be fixed. I mean even home publishing efforts are better formatted that the three books I have bought in the series so far.
    Great mysteries for kids
Everyone child loves reading Encyclopedia Brown books! my children always get excited when we order a new to read together! Teaches them to pay close attention to details and use logic too!
    Great fun
I bought the first in this nice old series for my seven year old grandson. I remembered them from the time my son was enjoying them a long time ago! He loves a good story and he loves to solve mysteries. The fact that the main character is a smart little boy is frosting on the cake. He finished the first book in no time and I ordered the next two in the series. He is enjoying each one. Since each book is segmented into several stories, it is the perfect bedtime book. You can read only as much as there is time for and still have a whole story or two. There is no doubt that more books in this clever series will be going his way.
    Great series!
My 10 year old son has currently started reading Encyclopedia brown. I loved that they had them available for purchase on Amazon! Using the E-books made it easier to obtain. Thank you!

A series with a high I.Q. (New York Times Book Review)
    Members Reviews:
    Good Book, Terrible Narrator
The book was hard to pay attention to because of Mr. Doyle. I'm sure there are a lot of books he reads well, however this one was not among the list. I would listen to 10 mins of this book and not remember anything I heard. I kept starting over - this was the most tedious listen I've experienced. I wanted to listen to the story so I pressed on. I purchased Book 5 in paper form as I cannot find it read by anyone else than Mr. Doyle. Please bring back Nathaniel Parker.
not bad story. slightly annoying voice.
not a bad story, fun to listen to unfortunately a slightly annoying voice. overall not bad.
Sad departure from the frist three very good books
I am not sure how much the narrator colored my impression of this book, but this was my least favorite of the series so far. Eoin Colfer made the mistake of having someone else read his Artemis Fowl books, only to realize the mistake and bring back the amazing Nathaniel Parker.
I found the story to be lackluster with no real suspense. After all these are tales of Young James Bond, we know he is not going to die, and we know he is going to grow up to be the greatest spy the world has ever known. The Rat Run that is the focus of the finale of the book loses a great deal of suspense because you know he will make it through unscathed.
All in all, this book would have been an entertaining distraction if read by Nathaniel Parker, but Gerard Doyle made a dull book that much worse.
    Great Book
If you're a fan of Ian Fleming's James Bond novels this Young Bond series is a must read. The stories take place in the correct time line to Fleming's original novels (late 30's)before WWII. Can't wait for the fifth book 'By Royal Command' which isn't available in the US yet.
James Bond was awesome as always
Loved it as i love all other James Bond stories. His leading lady left much to be desired though.
